I love my E36 328i. Only mod is a Signature Motoring performance intake kit. They run around $170 and add up to 9HP in the E46 323/325/328 and up to 9.4HP in the 328i. That's about $17/per extra HP... A good value for the extra oomph. General HP increases are shown:
@bakababy the part number for the "muffler" used in the magnaflow cat back for the E36 m3 is :12268. I'm sure they use the same muffler for the other 6cyl's. enjoy.
Dunno if thats really a good modification for you as a driver...Unless you need a higher top end speed youve just killed your low end torqe.(Guess you a motorway speedster=D not a drifter or curcuit racer)
Well then the m50b25 does have 192hp so you should still be able to drift, just not with as much low rev power as before. but youve probably got another 10-20kmh at top speed which is sweet..even thou the top speed is already 230kmh lol.(I just finished turning my 320i into a 325i and am keeping the 320i exhaust for lower end torque hehe kill's my top end alittle but I'm not into mass speed=D just drifting). But other than that, SOUNDS FRIGGUN SWEEET!
O and If you want, I got a pritty decent list of the best mod's for the engine(With specific's), if you are thinking of more upgrade's in the future.(I've been researching to much for this engine) "Like cam's/bore/piston's/turbo's/superchargers/gasket's/belts etc...pritty much been reasearching anything and everything that would make that specific engine be as fast and strong as possible=D.
The later models of the e36 325 gaind Variable valve timing that gave them a bucketload more of low end torque. So losing a little bit for that extra top end can't hurt too much.
@577newname Sorry I never noticed your comment :( , I completely agree. It really should not make much of a difference at all as performance exhausts have not been known to change a car's power by more than 2-25 hp except for in out of the ordinary cases where the exhaust was/is restricting airflow or completely lack thereof back pressure causing an adverse effect.
@tachi203 I know this is a really old comment, but performance exhaust will not decrease torque unless your car cant self adjust its air/fuel mixture... which typically isn't a problem on any BMW made within the last 30 years unless theres something wrong with it.
@millakilla air/fuel mixture? Whats that got to do with an exhaust? aside from burning the catalac converter(if you have one) or the density of the air?. I'm talking about fine tuning/flow restrictions and pressure effects(Or lack there of) and heat transfer. Which are the main aspects of a exhaust system. Depending on these factors in the design of the exhaust itself, it can vary what and where the optimal increase in performance you will get from an exhaust system.
@tachi203 It has a lot to do with the exhaust, the various sensors that are connected to and/or dependent on feedback from the exhaust, because a reduction in backpressure lowers the amount of fuel needed to produce the same power, which is why you get a horsepower and fuel mileage gain... You clearly don't have a good understanding of how any of this works. Google the term "exhaust torque myth" and you'll most likely get a lot of other sources telling you the same thing I am.
@millakilla (Not that I trust all these dodgy websites that support your theory) But you are partialy correct. I fully understand the exhaust sensor and what it does. But that is just a electronics perspective(that doesnt take into consideration other detrimental factors that an exhaust is made to compensate for), and if you read carefully has very little to do with low end rpm exhaust release. "Note, not all exhaust systems are equal" And the explanation is far to lengthy.
@millakilla Actualy read what these guys can explain 4 u :) goto ww(Dot)automotivehelper(Dot)com/topic163228(Dot)htm And read the reply's, That will explain it to you nicely I hope.
Sounds identical to my mates old 325, his had the twin exhausts though (dual pipes all along) so he had 2 single 3 inch backboxes and 2x2.5" cat back pipes fitted by powerflow. Result? And ehxuats that looks like any other Twin 3 inch exhaust, but sounded so sexy it was unreal. He woke me up each morning at 5am when he left for work and it sounded so nice.
Well thats b.c magnaflow makes it sound like a v8 wierd.. but usually you would put that on a truck or muscle car.. Borla woould make it sound really nice..
that sounds really nice, i think that's what i want my 325 to sound like if i get one pretty soon!

325 is a 6 cylinder =)

i KNOW, but the muffler sounds like it wants a v8 rather than a straight six

yeah them gearboxes uses a half-dog half helical gear on the output thats probably it, just sonds louder than normal

Bottom line, magnaflows sound really good on German cars and pretty much all cars... Unless it's a honda fart.
