what an amazing band lynyrd skynyrd has been through so much with the plane carsh and now the death of billy powell i saw them a few years ago at the palace of auburn hills in michigan it was the rowdy friends tour 38 special hank williams jr and skynyrd kid rock even showed up it was the best concert i have ever seen in my life even though im 19 i have seen tons of concerts that was by far the best SKYNYRD ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent time with them all during the "Street Survivors" recording sessions, I was blessed to witness the recording of that classic album and to call Leon a close friend. I don't know how Billy can be replaced...his unique style is kindof a one-off. How so much tragedy can befall one band is mind boggling. Go for it, Gary!!!
as long as Gary Rossington wants to play, you will have Lynyrd Skynyrd. but when he quits, or dies it's time to pack it in. Such a tragic loss to a great band that has already endured so many hardships. I've always felt that Billy's piano is what made Skynyrd sound so much more unique than other bands of the day. They've always had great guitarist, lead singers, and musicians in general, but Billy's piano really rounded it all up and sent the music where it needed to go. IMO.
Good man Billy Powell was -- just too sad for words. Who I feel horrible for right now is Gary and what he might be feeling. People who are among the few living sometimes feel unnecessary guilt.
The door to Skynryds music was opened by Sweet home Alabama - and everyone who heard that awesome piano played by Billy Powell wants to hear more. Like "Call me the breeze".

What an amazing man and piano player. Out of the three times I've seen Skynyrd, I was lucky enough to see Billy play once in 2006. In 2008 he had undergone hip surgery, and 2009...well he had already passed on. God bless you, Billy Powell. Fly on you proud bird, you're free at last.
Billy is the one and only GREAT Skynyrd piano player. He was perfect for this band and it's one of a kind southern rock!!! No mater what anyone thinks (myself included), Gary Rossington holds the rights to Lynyrd Skynyrd as a continuing performing band. He's one of the three original founders of Skynyrd & can continue if he wants to. I think of Skynyrd as the original cast of the 70's. However, since the tribute tour 87, the demand for Skynyrd both new & old has continued substantially.
no matter who we are, we all grow old and die. but this bands music will live on forever,or as long as the good Lord allows people to have ears. this is one of the most heart felt bands in history. even if you get burnt out on it, after some time passes, you will be right back listening in amazement again. I may have got a little burnt out on the hits,but their albums have so much better to offer anyway. when Ronnie was alive,I don't feel like they ever made a bad song...and Johny is no slouch

Great Guy - met him in Belfast Ireland in 1980 when Blackfoot played here. Most bands avoided our wee city because of the Troubles but Ricky and the Lads came and were absolute scholars! Concert was brilliant too but pleased that he has re-engaged with LS.
Truely, I think if Ronnie was alive and able to comment he'd say to stop bickering and stop the name calling. Family was important to Ronnie & all the originals. Seemed like respect, hard-work & leaving a mark on the music industry was as well...in which they did all to the fullest as any one Skynyrd fan would agree. I'm pretty sure Gary is NOT greedy. You lose Ronnie and Steve in the plane crash, then Allen Collins gets in a car accident and ends up dyin of pnumonia, Leon dies from liver and lung disease, Billy has a heart attack. Even though this band has been through that much, it amazes me to see them still goin strong. You'd figure after losin all but one of the original members it'd be too hard to go on, but I guess Skynyrd ain't quiters, and i'm glad that they can pull through and still make music for their lost brothers. they got back together in 1987 to do a tribute tour and it made alot of money. so for the love of money they hi-Jacked the skynyrd name and are still riding it for every penny they can make. correction they did Charlie's volunteer Jam in 1979. 2 years after the tragic crash. It was billy ,Allen, Artie, Ed, gary. Leon was unable to play due to pins and rods still in his arm. but he was thier and Ofcourse Charlie Daniels played with them. so it was 1979 and they toured in 1987. not the late 90's

Actually Ricky Medlock was an original but left the band to form Blackfoot before the first album was cut. Ricky was with the original band at what they called The Hell House.
the above contains the original member's of skynyrd , the 1 percent and the noble 5. Ricky sleprock is not on the list. But yes ronnie played a big part in blackfoot getting a record deal along with a few other bands. Jakson spires wrote all the blackfoot song's except TrainTrain and it was written by shorty Medlock. Ricky's Grandfather under the title of Railroad Man. But no ricky is not and never will be a Original member. greedy gary is the only original in the current band.

The drummer and somtime lead vocalist on the first Muscle Shoals go-round was Ricky Medlocke, later of Blackfoot, and bassist Leon Wilkerson joined ....
(Part 2) ...."towards the end of the second series of sessions. The first sessions took place in Spring of 1971, the second in the Fall" So I do have my facts right. Ricky did play with Skynyrd on the Muscle Shoals recordings before they went to Atlanta with and hooked up with Al Kooper and MCA.

Ronnies head didnt hit a tree and he didnt end up 20 yards from the crash. they used to carry the gear loose in the overheads of the plane. An amp or something hit him in the head, broke his neck and he died instantly. He remained in his seat on the plane almost without a scratch on him. damn man, get the facts straight if your going to tell it.

Spent time with them all during the "Street Survivors" recording sessions, I was blessed to witness the recording of that classic album and to call Leon a close friend. I don't know how Billy can be replaced...his unique style is kindof a one-off. How so much tragedy can befall one band is mind boggling. Go for it, Gary!!!

as long as Gary Rossington wants to play, you will have Lynyrd Skynyrd. but when he quits, or dies it's time to pack it in. I know they are a great cover Band, but it is getting hard to except. will Billy Gone. But I truly love Gary. I know playing for him has to be really hard with all the New members. seeing he was Ronnie's best friend since child hood he would want it to be Gary's decision, not Johny's.

Such a tragic loss to a great band that has already endured so many hardships. I've always felt that Billy's piano is what made Skynyrd sound so much more unique than other bands of the day. They've always had great guitarist, lead singers, and musicians in general, but Billy's piano really rounded it all up and sent the music where it needed to go. IMO.

What an amazing man and piano player. Out of the three times I've seen Skynyrd, I was lucky enough to see Billy play once in 2006. In 2008 he had undergone hip surgery, and 2009...well he had already passed on. God bless you, Billy Powell. Fly on you proud bird, you're free at last.

Billy is the one and only GREAT Skynyrd piano player. He was perfect for this band and it's one of a kind southern rock!!! No mater what anyone thinks (myself included), Gary Rossington holds the rights to Lynyrd Skynyrd as a continuing performing band. He's one of the three original founders of Skynyrd & can continue if he wants to. I think of Skynyrd as the original cast of the 70's. However, since the tribute tour 87, the demand for Skynyrd both new & old has continued substantially.

no matter who we are, we all grow old and die. but this bands music will live on forever,or as long as the good Lord allows people to have ears. this is one of the most heart felt bands in history. even if you get burnt out on it, after some time passes, you will be right back listening in amazement again. I may have got a little burnt out on the hits,but their albums have so much better to offer anyway. when Ronnie was alive,I don't feel like they ever made a bad song...and Johny is no slouch

Great Guy - met him in Belfast Ireland in 1980 when Blackfoot played here. Most bands avoided our wee city because of the Troubles but Ricky and the Lads came and were absolute scholars! Concert was brilliant too but pleased that he has re-engaged with LS.

Truely, I think if Ronnie was alive and able to comment he'd say to stop bickering and stop the name calling. Family was important to Ronnie & all the originals. Seemed like respect, hard-work & leaving a mark on the music industry was as well...in which they did all to the fullest as any one Skynyrd fan would agree. I'm pretty sure Gary is NOT greedy. You lose Ronnie and Steve in the plane crash, then Allen Collins gets in a car accident and ends up dyin of pnumonia, Leon dies from liver and lung disease, Billy has a heart attack. Even though this band has been through that much, it amazes me to see them still goin strong. You'd figure after losin all but one of the original members it'd be too hard to go on, but I guess Skynyrd ain't quiters, and i'm glad that they can pull through and still make music for their lost brothers. It's great.

they got back together in 1987 to do a tribute tour and it made alot of money. so for the love of money they hi-Jacked the skynyrd name and are still riding it for every penny they can make. correction they did Charlie's volunteer Jam in 1979. 2 years after the tragic crash. It was billy ,Allen, Artie, Ed, gary. Leon was unable to play due to pins and rods still in his arm. but he was thier and Ofcourse Charlie Daniels played with them. so it was 1979 and they toured in 1987. not the late 90's

Actually Ricky Medlock was an original but left the band to form Blackfoot before the first album was cut. Ricky was with the original band at what they called The Hell House.

the above contains the original member's of skynyrd , the 1 percent and the noble 5. Ricky sleprock is not on the list. But yes ronnie played a big part in blackfoot getting a record deal along with a few other bands. Jakson spires wrote all the blackfoot song's except TrainTrain and it was written by shorty Medlock. Ricky's Grandfather under the title of Railroad Man. But no ricky is not and never will be a Original member. greedy gary is the only original in the current band.

So Skynyrd borrowed some money and drove to the tiny northern Alabama hamlet of Sheffield to record at Muscle Shoals Sound. Eight members of the crew stayed in two rooms at Blue's truckstop. The drummer and somtime lead vocalist on the first Muscle Shoals go-round was Ricky Medlocke, later of Blackfoot, and bassist Leon Wilkerson joined ....

you've got this so wrong. Ronnie, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines and Kilpatrick died in the crash. Ronnies head didnt hit a tree and he didnt end up 20 yards from the crash. they used to carry the gear loose in the overheads of the plane. An amp or something hit him in the head, broke his neck and he died instantly. He remained in his seat on the plane almost without a scratch on him. damn man, get the facts straight if your going to tell it.
