frikkn dammit can't they just get a government flat and live in it for like 5 years to get back on their feet not frikkn running from hostel to motel.
Such amazing strength and resilience. Seeing this is just a sad realization of just how much we have. I'm trying not to judge the parents smoking bc the daughter may have asthma. What I learned from others w/predicaments in their life is that smoking helps them deal with their reality. It is the only thing they have in dealing with their stress. When you have lost almost everything, these ppl are doing the best they can in surviving. I'd like to know how they are doing and how I can help?
This is exactly what the commerce game is designed to do... to have people turn on each other instead if building healthy communities where everyone looks after each other.
Divide and conquer is the name of the game. However if you do not want to join the fiat war you can always claim indemnity. Read scripture the answers are their.
Whether Labour or Conservative all of Europe, if this type of thing keeps going on we will all see again 1939 - 1944. We've all learnt nothing at all. blame yr parents. Watch Ken Loach. Cathy come home?
This man has done one hell of a job raising a daughter too. What a tough & respectful kid. They other kids obviously are great as well, but she really stood out with her strength for such a young kid. Outstanding. I'm glad they made it. Wondering how Sarah & her family fared though.....
Having just watched all the six vids i am so totally angry that in this day and age, this is happening to families. In fact, i'm sure there are more people than ever going through the same thing in 2010. Surely drastic measures are needed regarding eviction. It should be banned.
Very nice upload, a good doc. It's good families are able to stick together like that. It was awful to hear the heartless cunts on the phone that so calmy told there there was 'nothing they could do'.
@KLguy133 That Sarah was just plain odd...what a strange girl-very juvenile for her age. Anyway, it said she hadn't found permanent housing yet...I have to wonder how hard her parents are trying.
what do mean help a homeless family, oh i see you mean we can buy ciggs for them to smoke in front of their kids so they get lung cancer i say fuck off you dont get my pitty
@sfordgg yes exactly, and didn't I see them giving their kids a pot noodle, I mean these people are just plain evil. As everyone knows, the best time to give up fags is after years of being homeless, terrified ur kids will be taken away and your (literally) pulling your fucking hair out. And if they gave up fags it would also be a huge weight off their mind to know that they weren't being judged by some blinkred fool watching their misery from the safety of a nice warm house. how selfish of them
@69Ferg They shouldn't be smoking! It's not a matter of judging them...these people claim to have no money and are feeding their kids junk, yet have money for cigarettes. They'd save a ton of money if they stopped and they'd all be healthier, too....they have the nerve to talk of kids being asthmatic and needing medication-did they ever stop to think that maybe their smoking has something to do with it.
Like many, I lost some of the sympathy when I saw they smoked.
@sfordgg AGREED! I must admit I lost some of my sympathy when I saw the adults smoking. They'd save a ton if they gave up that bad habit...plus one of the set of parents (I belive Chloe's parents) were talking about their kids having asthma-don't they think their kids would be healthier if they gave up the smoking?
They're giving their kids junk to eat, yet can afford cigarettes. That was a major turn-off for me and lots of people and we shouldn't be bashed for saying that-it's true!
@politelypompous I'm sorry, but I have been dead poor and at that time the only happiness had was from cigarettes. Everybody knows they are bad for you and they are expensive because of the taxes on them. Last year the UK government made in pure profits around 5 billion pounds.
@ellitho I understand that. I know it alleviates stress (until one has the stress of cancer, that is) & may be the only ray of happiness when one is down & out. If these were simply homeless adults who smoked it wouldn't be so bad...I had more of a problem with the fact that they failed to give their children healthy meals because of being poor, whilst buying cigarettes for themselves. Your point about the taxes compounds my point-they aren't exactly cheap.
@ellitho Yes-but any parent whose primary focus is putting dangerous chemicals in their body instead of healthy food into their children's bodies is just plain selfish to most right-thinking people. Their main concern is for themselves-cigarettes should be at the bottom of their list. These people need to get their priorities in order-I'll bet they buy cigarettes before paying their bills, too, so no wonder they're in this mess. It's a disgusting, expensive habit & these ppl. are UNFIT parents.
@politelypompous Bollocks. Isn't quitting smoking harder than kicking heroin? Yes, it'd be nice if they could save the money, but the same could be said of middle-class parents. Besides, they're already stressed, do we need them to be stressed and jittery with withdrawal too?
@zammmerjammer There are plenty of people who've quit smoking cold turkey-including my father so it can be done. We're not discussing middle-class people because they are putting a decent roof over their childrens' heads and nutritious food in their bellies, are they not? My point isn't so much about the bad habit itself, it's about depriving ones children which is what these folks are doing. They're selfish and irresponsible-their kids should be taken from them for their neglect in my book.
@politelypompous These parents care about their kids and don't neglect them in any way. You obviously have no idea of the horror child services workers have to deal with. When they get through all the kids with broken bones and STIs then maybe they'll get around to ripping apart a family with caring parents and reasonably well-behaved kids.
...honestly...
There are plenty of middle-class parents who give their kids food & shelter and treat them like crap.
@zammmerjammer The bottom line is they're irresponsible as I said. It's bad enough they can't provide a roof over their childrens' heads, they're exposing them to second-hand smoke which causes respiratory problems. Yes, middle-class ppl. do it as well, but their childrens' immune systems have a fighting chance because they're getting healthy food into them.
They're weak with all their depression issues. They need to grow up, be brave & take proper care of the kids they brought into this world.
@politelypompous In what way are they "irresponsible"? I see them doing everything they can to get housing. Sniping at the poor for smoking or having a beer on the weekends is so self-righteous and holier than thou.
Fact: lots of middle-class kids have a SHITE diet, provided by their parents.
And depressed people are in fact incredibly STRONG since just getting through the day and completing routine tasks can be like climbing a mountain. Don't talk about things you don't understand.
I've been shocked in the 2 years I've lived in the UK at how many people are on housing benefit here. The really sad thing is that a majority of them don't really need it and they tend to be single or couples with no kids. It's sad that these people who are really trying to improve their situation have to go through all this bs. I hope all these people are doing ok now and that the government here will someday do a better job at helping their own who really need it!
yeh the government are more botherd about helping heroin addicts an spending money on stupid wars an helping foreigners.the trend with labour and conservative is the same fuck your own countrymen
I loved this documentary series! I didn't think families in the UK could face such difficulties with having a home to live in - its really really awful how that teenage girl couldn't afford the bus-fare to get to school so she didn't pass that year!! I live in NZ, I wonder if similar documentaris could be made about NZ homeless people? The people I've seen begging on the streets in my city have always been individuals, no children or families
I had a hard to finding this, then lost the link totally, then only got most of it. I am in Europe. I've been homeless. I feel a bit jealous that those people can have children, and I knew I couldn't be sure to provide a home, so let my husband persuade me to abort.
this was a great video series,i wish it were in the top of you tube videos. The man holding his wife and kids together has amazing strength.I hope they are still doing well.
I just watched this entire thing and had to pause it a few times to cry. Thank you, whoever you are, for posting this, and I'm not even English. This had made me more aware of how lucky I am that I have a place to call home and have lived here for more than 10 years. More people should see this and then I think there would be less people bitching about material things and being grateful for what they have. Thanks again.
I volunteered for a homeless org. connected with the Big Issue for nearly a year...every person, a new story. But single people were the norm. I met a few couples, but never a family. I suppose, naively, I thought they would never get to that stage as there would be things in place to help them. I admire the guy wanting to hold his family together so much...he is a total star. Sir, I salute thee.
I know, There should be more views for this posting. I guess people generally don't want to know about poor/homeless people....sadly its always been this way. I don't have a theory as to why though.
I see Housing Benefit admitted that they'd made a mistake, in the end, way after the eviction, about par for the course then...
