@fooloof who named the mini? most of those moog/synth records where done with modulars by moog, a.r.p etc. (the moog modular is even on the lp cover of Carlos' Switched-On-Bach, the originator of all following records of this kind).
@cosmocorps2000: I have the Bach record. According to an Interview with Jim Scott (one of the principal designers of the Minimoog), the name came from the Moog company's business manager. Bill Hemsath (the main designer) wanted to call it the "Min." He and John Huzar apparently went back and forth on this, which Huzar's term getting the nod.
Bob Moog never wanted a production line of the same instrument; that was too boring. he wanted to do custom designs, like in the past.
@cosmocorps2000: Eventually, Bob Moog realized that they needed a consistent product in order to keep the company going (it was losing a lot of money). All this info came from an interview with David Kean in 1999.
@fooloof that's a good point and those modular synths were too big to travel and a pain to program. So it's no wonder that most companys build smaller and more compact synths which also cost a fraction of the modular monsters.
Hi Cosmo, love the combination of music and fashion. Where did you get the fashion clip and are the fashions shown all from the house of lanvin? Iam a 1960's clothes freak and these clips are an excellent referance tool for studying.
My elementary school principal would play this version on one of the old government issue portable phonographs through an old box loudspeaker as we gathered for assemblies. Wow.. that would have been 1970 through about 1975. I knew it was Penny Lane, but not the version.
Thank you so much for dusting off the old memories.
@Shanawolfo1 - this is WILD! Lots of orchestra leaders embraced the moog sound back then! Want to dust off more memories? My channel has 111 playlists for every year since 1900, lists for 300 artists, even a Moog playlist !!! Thanks to cosmo for adding this one ! ! ! !
Yes, it's from MARTY GOLD - MOOG PLAYS THE BEATLES, which is from 1969. The record features 12 beatles coverversions mainly played with the moog synth.
got to love how they used to dress

If this is 1969, then this has to be an original Moog and not the Minimoog. The Mini didn't come out until 1970.
