@showlegacy619 Because the game has a retro-futurism aesthetic designed to feel like the future of what the 50's predicted. In the games story though the technology never evolved to the silicon chip still relying on valves and vacuum tubes - despite being set in around about 2077.

The real nature of the look was to give a stark and bleak feel to what was predicted to be a spotless age of wonder with the world in ruin as opposed to what we thought the would would be like.

These first two Fallout games are the best in the series, I think. The story lines are brilliant and unique, certain aspects of the combat are a lot more detailed (eg. Plasma melting and Laser weapon deaths) and it felt a lot more post-apocalyptic. The new games lack good story lines and the detail isn't quite as interesting. Fallout is definitely the best series of games.
