  • the saxaphone player is awesome...jease thats hard

  • this is why saxophone should be incorporated into orchestras.

  • Man, I love his sound...

  • i'm one of taimur sullivan's students. he plays on selmer series III with selmer s-90 mouthpice refaced.and a custum selmer neck

  • @rtp4527 Where does he teach?

Also what kind of customizations does Selmer do for necks? Never heard of that done before

  • @SaxDude1995 he teaches at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. you would have to look up a selmer neck catalog book. there are plenty of them to pick from.

  • Beautiful!! Was this @ FIU??

  • north carolina school of the arts

  • wow sounds like a beautiful singing voice

  • buen sonido y muy agil excelente!!!

  • creo que este saxofonista es Kennet Tse y no Taimur Sullivan

  • Do you know what the witch edition this is? from witch ''company'' that distributes it? I would like to play it with orchestra, very nice version.

    Thanx

  • which lol (then again, i'm one to talk lol).

  • Bravissimo!! Is there someone who can give me the saxophone's part?

  • Holy ****...beyond words. The saxophone soloist is amazing!

  • awesome!, i wish i had the music for this =)

  • beautiful

  • bravo! Sorry for asking but anyone knows where can i buy the orchestra arrange and sax solo part ? ^^"

  • That's a ridiculous motto. The audience is never "too impressed", the point of technical pieces is to blow the audience away with your leet skills tbh. He added lots of style and good phrasing into the piece. He is a saxophone professor at NCSA. Get new ears please.

  • zachindie, I do agree with you that the purpose of this piece of probably to show off. That being said, littleindian17 has a great point when he expresses that not everything in music has to be so fast. Slow, emotional pieces can be just as impressive as the insanely fast ones.

  • What are you talking about? I never said otherwise. I personally love playing pieces that incorporate both technical and very lyrical parts into them. However, this is a very technically based piece past the opening.

  • Then we have no disagreement.

  • There's only like six people in the audience. What's up with that? This dude rocks!

  • it was probably a band festival and those six people may just be judges

  • For those of you who are wondering what sax he plays, I was his student while he was on faculty at columbia university in NYC. He was playing a selmer series III at the time. He also has a great series II that he plays a lot. His mouthpiece set up that he prefers is an s90 with a bay ligature.

  • Where did you get this score???

  • sick

  • taimur sullivan would sound this good on a student sax with a lollipop stick for a reed, its irrevelant what sax hes uses, it hours of practice you're hearing.. and by the way SCIDAVE theres no way you can tell what sax hes using by ear unless you're superman!. Gimp.

  • it sounds like he's playing a Mark VI, either that or one of the newer Yamahas, I've got a Custom EX Yamaha and it sounds like that, although I don't claim to be able to play like this fella!

  • You're a dumb ass

  • HAHAHAHA

    hilarious....

  • Yeah... he definitely plays on a Series III

  • anyone know who this is by?

  • Jean Baptiste Arban -- originally as an exercise for Cornet / Trumpet (practicing of double and triple tonguing)

  • wow... I played this piece for a festival earlier this year, but I didn't imagine it could even be played that fast...

  • OMG what sax do you have?that sound is really nice wow i want yur sax well prob jus u.

  • I can tell you so much that you'll get a sound like this out of most of the saxophones out there - if you're good anyway.

This is a nice sound, but I have another favorite of mine. He's my teacher at the Conservatoire in Bergen. His name is Renee Wiik, and maybe I'll upload some recordings of him later this year. I've taken masterclasses with Frederick L. Hemke as well, but as a player Renee Wiik is definately Norways best.

  • the type of sax you have doesnt really effect how you sound its mainly your embuecher(sp?) and your set up you use

  • Got my hopes up when he started with the Staigers version...thought I was gonna see some triple tonguing...the Demersseman version is the weakest "Carnival"

  • If I remember correctly, because I played in this concert, he put it together in just a few days, if that many. So, regardless of which version he played, he still managed to do an excellent job with it. That and Taimur is the cat's PJ's.

  • beautiful sound!

  • hmmm... i haven't gotten to talk to Dr. McAllister much since he left for Arizona. Maybe Taimur is playing it after all. Possibly Michael Whitcombe... even though he left the group recently.

  • Thanks for post this video... i like..!! very, very good.. this guy play very good..!!

  • I adore the sound of classical sax, and this guy rocks!

  • Sweet Jesus! Amazing!

  • wow!!!!!!! fantastic!!!!!!! O_O

  • I think Otis Murphy has a better sound and with much more flexibility on the saxophone. Remember this guy took the place of the great Eugene!!

  • i agree; ever heard Murphy's recording of Claude Smith's Fantasia?

  • It's a small world...I attend Jackson State University and we performed Fantasia with Otis Murphy. Otis truly is a master and a great friend.

  • yea i got the chance to meet the guy too. I actually took private lessons with him. Otis Murphy is a beast on the alto sax. yea

  • Otis Murphy is good, but many people would rather hear him play fast passages and nothing slow. If you want to talk verstatile, get a Donald Sinta recording.

  • yep i go to IU and get lessons from him. awesome player and an even better guy.

  • Perfect!

  • Thanks for posting! Great performance!

  • Clarnet sound! Yes beautiful but classic sound of clarnet Sax.

  • geeez. I remember this. I was in it. It went very well. Too bad it was only in Crawford.

  • What kind of gear is Taimur playing on?

  • Selmer SerieIII

    w/ Selmer S90 - 180facing

    BG Ligature

    and Vandoren 3's

  • Taimur Sullivan (in my opinion) has the most beautiful sound of any Saxophonist ever

  • Taimur Sullivan (in my opinion) has the most beautiful sound of any saxophonist out there

He really needs to come out with a solo CD

  • I believe he's the one playing the Albright Sonata on the Prism Quartet's upcoming Albright album.

  • I think they are keeping Tim McAllister's recording of the Sonata for that CD. Taimur is going to play Heater....which is an absolute beast.

  • Dr. McAllister told me personally last September that someone else was recording it for the album.
