How does it feel to suck on YouTube? I know i cant do any better so that is why i dont post shit videos that im trying to get millions to watch and like!
I have no idea where the idea of steel core bullets being considered AP rounds...but seems like alot of people call it as such. I've shot steel core surplus for a number of years, it doesn't seem to be able to pop a hole through the steel stoppers on the far end of the range to be banned from it yet.
@R5H4D0W Steel core bullets became known as AP not to say they pierce vehicle armor but body armor. Hence why we switched from the 55 gr M193 FMJ (aka the little bullet that made the big hole) to the 62 gr M855/SS109 FMJBT. In the late 70s and the 80s, we became less worried about damaging our target and more worried about the body armor they were clad with.
im looking for a round , 12 gauge called closed casket. it explodes and the body looks like damage from a claymore mine. they only fit the break down breach load gun because they were about 5 inches long. any ideas?
Discarding Sabot whether fin stabilized, or spin, is a sub caliber, A.P. munition. a full caliber kinetic A.P. penetrator is called Shot. There is also A.P. shell, which has an Explosive filling which is base fused, it perfs the armor, the fuse then detonates the filling once the round is inside the target. Then there is the H.E.A.T munition, that uses the energy of a shaped explosive charge to penetrate armor. Heat munitions are always full caliber, the larger, the better.
0:26 this is SABOT not AP acuratelly APFSDS fin stabilized penetrator round, AP = low caliber explosive round with shaped cone, high caliber rounds like AP was named HEAT. Is also 25mm sabot like this too.
Is it correct that a kinetic energy round (sub-caliber) wouldn't be a shell? Because afaik a shell carries an explosive charge, and sub-caliber munitions don't. Thus the tank round used most often wouldn't be a shell, correct?
@minuteman2012 Well yeah, it says that it's 30x173mm right at the top of the drawing. This video is absolute crap. It says IED killing rounds. I think they generally use 7.62x51mm or 12.7x99mm to destroy IEDs. There are 5.56, 30mm, and fucking tank rounds in this video. The music blows too.
@DamnYourReallyUgly No dude, lead hasn't been used since pre-30-06 days. Plain lead bullets are not good at high velocity, they leave lead in the barrel. Hence the development of jacketed bullets. Today, most bullets are a core of lead covered in a soft copper alloy. It was probably a sintered lead-free or frangible round.
@sexcrime He's spouting crap. Lead is used to make bullets because it is dense and heavy, making it good at delivering kinetic energy, but it is also soft and leaves traces in gun barrels. For hunting use when only a few rounds are fired on each trip this isn't an issue but a military weapon may be required to fire hundreds of rounds before the user gets a chance to clean it properly so a build-up of lead in the barrel is very dangerous, hence the need to jacket bullets in a harder metal.
@SkullKing11841 Bingo. Glad somebody knew what the damned things are, reading through these comments talking about mortar shells and shaped charges and all kinds of other nonsense has been like watching monkeys trying to gang rape a doorknob.
@MrThembones Hahaha, good point, but imagine the amount of IEDs and land mines soldiers come across it's a lot more cost effective and time effective simply to set off the unexploded ordnance by shooting at it, rather then get a specialist in to neutralise the explosives. make sense?
The lineup of 5.56 at 0:10 is not armor piercing. The first one is a standard FMJ, second, an M855 with a steel core, but not considered an AP round. Third, I'm not familiar with, though it looks like a cupronickel jacket, which is pretty odd. Fourth, soft point, made expand and impart more energy, not penetrate. Not familiar with that roundnose, but round isn't a good AP shape. Red's a M856 tracer. Second to last is a plastic case, plastic projectile training round, hardly penetrates air.
@Assi2004 well kind of... they are DPU rounds (depleted uranium) and function like shap charges but are not considered them... and the bottom one is 105mm and is a tank round and the top 2 are 65 or 70 mm mortar DPUs
@AreThereNoMoreNames I would beg to differ about the second to last pic. that is a sabot on the bullet it is made to neck down artillery shells to fire from a larger bore. In other words a faster thinner bullet made to penetrate not decimate.
Why are the top 2 comments the same.

@Zangizo No. A shell is simply a payload carrying projectile. KE rounds are carrying payloads as well, the sub-caliber penetrator.
