Right - this is the cover of the live album, "Rock Festival." And Lowell Levinger may be his birth name, but we all knew him as Banana! Pretty sure he was the lead guitar, too, FWIW, especially after Jerry Corbitt left the band during the recording of this album. He also played keyboards in the band, plus mandolin, mandola, tenor guitar and banjo, though not in the band, AFAIK. ;-)
fyi - Sir Francis Drake is the name of a street that winds around the northwest part of San Francisco, from down near Cliff House up to the Palace of the Legion of Honor (home of the Thinker)... I just had to drive it while playing this song!
Elephant Mountain - great album.. some nice jazzy stuff mixed in with the folk-rock.
actually, Sir Francis Drake Blvd. runs from San Rafael (Bay) up through Fairfax, Lagunitas, out past Tomales Bay, & Hwy. 1, all the way out to Drake's Bay.
A sparkling autumn afternoon, -- minimal traffic encountered in 1967-68, -- a BSA or Triumph, -- perhaps some real orange sunshine, -- -- and you have just such an experience described in song.
@pnwoods -- actually, ummm... you're right! (thx for correcting my faulty recollection... of El Camino Del Mar, apparently) It happens I drove Sir Francis Drake for the first time a few months ago, to attend the Healdsburg Guitar Festival in Santa Rosa. But I swear, it was like I said, around Lands End, in my mind anyway. Blame it on my state of mind, either now, or then. ;)

Always wondered what this song sounded like, as it's such a great title. Loved it! Thanks much for posting.
