I think...from firing one....its a good solid firearm. 8+1. ( the norm ) very slim profile....its a great .45 for concealment. ( thumbs up )...I will get one later down the road. When I was looking for another handgun to replace my old P97...it was either the XD45 or the P345. What sold me on the XD was ..the double stack mags. ( 13 rounds ) the rival to the Glock 21. As well as the price. it was $60 LESS than the P345 and I was getting more rounds and equal quality.

you know anything about field stripping a smith 69 series auto? my slide stops when reaching 3 levers near the hammer. the last of the levers refuses to allow the slide to come back. it's so firmly resistant that the slide has a small ding mark now. thanks
Good video and smooth take down ^5. So why did you sell the P97 & what are you carrying now? I did the same thing with my first P97, missed it cause it was a work horse and bought another one a year later. I've got other handguns from Glock to Sig, Beretta, etc but for some reason or other, the Ruger just stood out as a solid .45 that I want to keep. And to the people asking why you are using "live ammo"... what other kinds are there? Besides, an unloaded gun is a paperweight.
@WileyG27 I had 1 issue with it.....the mag catch would let go of the mag after firing each round ( mag would fall out )...so..I sold it. the new owner fixed it. I just purchased the Springfield XD45 to replace the old Ruger P97.

I've got a question for you. My P97dc tends to eject a spent cartridge in my face now and then. One time I caught one right between my cheek and safety glasses while at the range; didn't feel too good. The P97 is easier to carry than my Glock 21, but taking brass in the face isn't cool. Do you know of anything I can do about that?
Sorry for the late reply....keep a close eye out on your mag catch ...after a while...it wears...and you will need to replace it. My old P97, after every shot...the mag would fall out. I sold it and replaced it with a Springfield Armory XD45.
Hey there twisted. I still say the P97 is a better gun than the P345. I have never fired the H&K .45 OR Springfield XD 45-- but I would be willing to just "take a guess" the P97 would still be better (with the exception of capacity of course). The P97 seems just too compatible with my hand & thus makes it work better for me. IMHO is all. Also just wanted to say hello of course. - It's been a while. Sincerely,d JAMES.
@buzzclark Long time no talk... I wouldn't compare the P97 to the higher cost H&K 45...springfield XD or Glock. Ruger is in a league of its own... they are $200-$500 cheaper than the said firearms but they are STRONG and RELIABLE firearms. Firepower is on the low end of both the P345 and P97 ( capacity )...but you can't go wrong with a Ruger. . My next firearm.. I have been eyeballin' is the Sig Sauer P220 SAS .45 ( been eyeballing that firearm for at least 6 months ) LOL.

I'm impressed. Most of the people I know don't realize how important that little spring in the magazine can be. Mad prop for getting another magazine for rotation.
The only thing I saw wrong when you did your break down was the dry fire of the weapon. You save some wear and tear if you decock the weapon instead of firing the action. Not trying to be a hater or anything. Gotta say I'm impressed with the purchasing an extra magazine for rotation. Not to many people I know do that. People sometime don't realize how important that little spring can be,

Twisted, I like your style! My only suggestion - having just learned how to disassemble a P95 - is to let the viewer see the gun from your point of view. The tricky thing for most people is lining up the take down pin and groove. You must have some boom mic set up on your camera 'cause yeah it's loud when you rack that slide!

yeah...those Taurus's are nice....personally..I like the Taurus PT145 ..small and has the 10+1...which is still enough rounds to get youreself out of a small encounter. If you do get a Ruger...you won't be in dismay of it....thats for sure.

More than likely...that sounds like a RARE DAO model.
DAO= Double action Only.
meaning..theres no safety.....no spurred hammer...and every round you fire..is a LONG double action pull. unlike the SA/DA models..where after the first round...every shot is single action ( lighter trigger pull ). You have a choice of cocking the hammer and making it single action..but with DAOs..no choice...each pull is long. ( not good for accuracy )

Go to the Ruger site and look for yourself ..ALL DC models are discontinued. the P97DC has been phased out to the P345 and the P90 and P95 are now manual safety pistols only. It sucks, I like the DC version better. ( decock and it automatically returns to fire )
They are discontinued over a dispute from what I have been told. The Ruger Family wanted one way and the other side of the Ruger family wanted the other way.

I bought my P97 about 5 years ago it used to jam because of the ejector pin.Ruger sent me a brand new pin since it was under warranty.
It has worked perfect ever since.

the P97...has a polymer frame and steel slide. Design is completely different.
The Polymer frame..acts like a shock absorber *( courtesy of Ruger website )*
The P90 is thicker as well.

you know anything about field stripping a smith 69 series auto? my slide stops when reaching 3 levers near the hammer. the last of the levers refuses to allow the slide to come back. it's so firmly resistant that the slide has a small ding mark now. thanks

Good video and smooth take down ^5. So why did you sell the P97 & what are you carrying now? I did the same thing with my first P97, missed it cause it was a work horse and bought another one a year later. I've got other handguns from Glock to Sig, Beretta, etc but for some reason or other, the Ruger just stood out as a solid .45 that I want to keep. And to the people asking why you are using "live ammo"... what other kinds are there? Besides, an unloaded gun is a paperweight.

@WileyG27 I had 1 issue with it.....the mag catch would let go of the mag after firing each round ( mag would fall out )...so..I sold it. the new owner fixed it. I just purchased the Springfield XD45 to replace the old Ruger P97.

I've got a question for you. My P97dc tends to eject a spent cartridge in my face now and then. One time I caught one right between my cheek and safety glasses while at the range; didn't feel too good. The P97 is easier to carry than my Glock 21, but taking brass in the face isn't cool. Do you know of anything I can do about that?

Sorry for the late reply....keep a close eye out on your mag catch ...after a while...it wears...and you will need to replace it. My old P97, after every shot...the mag would fall out. I sold it and replaced it with a Springfield Armory XD45.

Hey there twisted. I still say the P97 is a better gun than the P345. I have never fired the H&K .45 OR Springfield XD 45-- but I would be willing to just "take a guess" the P97 would still be better (with the exception of capacity of course). The P97 seems just too compatible with my hand & thus makes it work better for me. IMHO is all. Also just wanted to say hello of course. - It's been a while. Sincerely,d JAMES.

@buzzclark Long time no talk... I wouldn't compare the P97 to the higher cost H&K 45...springfield XD or Glock. Ruger is in a league of its own... they are $200-$500 cheaper than the said firearms but they are STRONG and RELIABLE firearms. Firepower is on the low end of both the P345 and P97 ( capacity )...but you can't go wrong with a Ruger. . My next firearm.. I have been eyeballin' is the Sig Sauer P220 SAS .45 ( been eyeballing that firearm for at least 6 months ) LOL.

The only thing I saw wrong when you did your break down was the dry fire of the weapon. You save some wear and tear if you decock the weapon instead of firing the action. Not trying to be a hater or anything. Gotta say I'm impressed with the purchasing an extra magazine for rotation. Not to many people I know do that. People sometime don't realize how important that little spring can be,

Twisted, I like your style! My only suggestion - having just learned how to disassemble a P95 - is to let the viewer see the gun from your point of view. The tricky thing for most people is lining up the take down pin and groove. You must have some boom mic set up on your camera 'cause yeah it's loud when you rack that slide!

yeah...those Taurus's are nice....personally..I like the Taurus PT145 ..small and has the 10+1...which is still enough rounds to get youreself out of a small encounter. If you do get a Ruger...you won't be in dismay of it....thats for sure.

Really appreciate the vid, I am going to pick one of these up tomorrow from an individual for 250 plus he wants to do a ffl transfer. Is that a good deal? the transfer is like 20. Also I notice there is a P97 without the hammer and decocker (obviously), is that the non-DC model. I am certain this guy said it was a dc model but I will know for sure tomorrow.

More than likely...that sounds like a RARE DAO model.
DAO= Double action Only.
meaning..theres no safety.....no spurred hammer...and every round you fire..is a LONG double action pull. unlike the SA/DA models..where after the first round...every shot is single action ( lighter trigger pull ). You have a choice of cocking the hammer and making it single action..but with DAOs..no choice...each pull is long. ( not good for accuracy )

I went and picked it up, it is a 97dc. I've already stripped it down and cleaned it up thanks to your vid. We ended up not doing the ffl and I picked it up for 250, overall pretty happy. wanted something bigger then my little taurus slim. what do these guns normally run?

I added Pachmayr grips, if you don't know what Pachmayr's are, you should look'm up ASAP, they stay sticky to hand, even when pulled from a soaking wet condition like hunting in rain or wet hands. P97DC and P95DC ( decocker models only ) are no longer being manufactured. Finding a DC Ruger Model is getting harder to find these days.

The gun shop I went to sold a used P95DC for $400.00 Only 50 rounds went though it and someone bought it.
They did tell me its a collectors item but never told me it was discontuied.

yeah...they are discontinued.
Go to the Ruger site and look for yourself ..ALL DC models are discontinued. the P97DC has been phased out to the P345 and the P90 and P95 are now manual safety pistols only. It sucks, I like the DC version better. ( decock and it automatically returns to fire )

however, theres NO MORE DC models...all manual safety models now.
