GT5 was an absolute disappointment. They've forgotten to write the part of the game that's actually a game. the (limited) cart racing and some of the rally driving was fun..but other than that, it just feels dull as dishwater; with no progression or steadily increasing challenge that gives good games their longevity.
GT3 was better by many,many miles; never buying GT on release again!

Over the years I got used to GT not having damage modeling, and the driving model always made up for it. I think it was a bad choice to spend so much time trying to bring damage modeling in on the premium cars when that time could have been better spent making ALL 1000+ cars worthy of being seen on a PS3 era game. If I want to see some car carnage I can always pop in Burnout Paradise or Dirt2.
@hejjagedu Yea, Dirt 2 doesn't really throw the car carnage in that much now that I think about it.....not as much as Dirt 1 or the CM series did, but the damage is still far better than what we typically see in FM3 or GT5.
The damage looks great here, I just wish this sort of result was the norm for a typical wreck incursion during single player play. Sadly, it isn't. At this point in my career on the game (about 30 hours in) I think I've come to the conclusion that I would rather PD had worked on making the 800 standard cars into premiums and continue to have NO damage than to have ended up damage the way it is and only 220 of the game's cars being premium modeled. That's just MY opinion though.
i think when i play a racing simulator, and when i do rarely crash into a wall i concentrate a lot harder on winning the race that i might have just fucked up instead, "oh look my car looks fucked up now, COOL@QIJ!!!JKE"
@qwertylockley 1st question: You only get damage this realistic on the premium cars, the standard cars get less realistic damage. But the premium damage looks very realistic.
2nd question: You do have to give the car some pretty brutal treatment to get the damage to appear.

Don't get me wrong, I like those things too, but good games don't always have to prioritise these. A driving simulator is supposed to give a realistic driving experience, so you can enjoy the feel of driving cars you probably can't drive in real life. If you want carnage, get Grand Theft Auto or Burnout.
@matt6517 No I just don't like the idea of bashing cars out of the way without a penalty. I've had a chance to play the game a bit more now and there is a damage model present, but the settings are all tweaked wrong, as though they are setup for an easy arcade mode. If it were on pc it would probably be a matter of changing the relevant files to fix that oversight.

@jeffsandychelsea the weather and night driving which i must say is very realistic specially at le mans how you can't see a damn thing in front of you outside of the head light range except other lights and reflective signs. that sort of thing is much more important to me than damage, games like crash or any other arcade style racing game will always be better because thats where soooo much effort is placed
I just hope they have a high sim damage mode that is fully realistic. It's alot to ask, but they always said they won't put in damage until they could do it right... Then again, they've been known to not tell the whole truth before. FUCKING delays!

Grid was better than that. It had detailed and area specific damage that affected handling and power, but sadly not aerodynamics. Although you would be a fool to say this is just as bad as what they showed us last year... a Ferrari smashing into a wall at over 100mph and only having paint scratches and mild deformation. This game isn't adding up so far in my opinion.
@TehLocoMofo Have you seen how the AI acts too? They're still mindless zombies plowing around the course on their preset line. Those are the two huge issues that every gaming magazine asked them to solve, and you would think that after years of development it would be taken care of. The physics engine and detail is unmatched but come on, the two huge issues this series has haven't been addressed in the past 5 years? This better be fixed for the final copy.
@Joezter dude most of these cars though the high end ones you crash at the high end of 1st gear you should be completely totaled. They go like 100km/h in 1st...... like race should be done immediately pretty well.
tbqh the damage model is not too impressive. oh well, i'm rest assured that the actual gameplay will be a good simulation :) even though i must say that i would prefer less of a melted look and something more burnout-ish in the damage.

so i'm very happy with my decision , but you know what i hate about gt 5

@rubenandpimslapping I used to be a huge GT fan, but after the disappointment that was 5, I jumped ship to Forza. At least it's bringing something new to the table.
Plus, going on which one is best by sales? GT is nothing but a forgotten relic in that area.

Grid was better than that. It had detailed and area specific damage that affected handling and power, but sadly not aerodynamics. Although you would be a fool to say this is just as bad as what they showed us last year... a Ferrari smashing into a wall at over 100mph and only having paint scratches and mild deformation. This game isn't adding up so far in my opinion.

@TehLocoMofo Have you seen how the AI acts too? They're still mindless zombies plowing around the course on their preset line. Those are the two huge issues that every gaming magazine asked them to solve, and you would think that after years of development it would be taken care of. The physics engine and detail is unmatched but come on, the two huge issues this series has haven't been addressed in the past 5 years? This better be fixed for the final copy.

@Joezter dude most of these cars though the high end ones you crash at the high end of 1st gear you should be completely totaled. They go like 100km/h in 1st...... like race should be done immediately pretty well.

tbqh the damage model is not too impressive. oh well, i'm rest assured that the actual gameplay will be a good simulation :) even though i must say that i would prefer less of a melted look and something more burnout-ish in the damage.
