  • Where did you get the snare sounds? It sounds REALLY realistic. Lol But it doesn't sound like VDL. So... What is it?

  • how does on get a copy of this transcription? Been wanting to play this as a closer for my marching band

  • Wow! Awesome job! Nice work...would love to have this arrangement!!!!

  • I want those Drumline sounds lol

  • @JessOnTheRun I can't even find this song actually being played by the scouts. It's just a program, so under both those terms, lay off. (Everyone's a critic. Unless you have actually done better, you have no say here.)

  • @HomicidalTh0r Shut the hell up... moron, Scouts played S Soup twice... once in '83, then again in '93... you must be a fucking noob to DCI

  • @JessOnTheRun That's completely off subject and unrelated. You're basically arguing a theory that has no point or root for that matter. SIT DOWN TROLL!

  • @JessOnTheRun Actually....Madison played it in 82 as well...

  • @HomicidalTh0r Ignore JessOnTheRun....he's always been a total fucking moron. This is a pretty good transcription of what Madison played in 93...even to the singing parts (which ARE in the original Ellis and which 93 Madison DID do). They also played it in 82 and 83...awesome chart....especially when the original is over 15 minutes long! Always felt that Madison's ending was better than Ellis'.

  • @homfencing Thank you. ^_^ They actually had people sing? Fucking sweet!

  • @HomicidalTh0r Hi HTh0r, glad you enjoyed the arrangement and as homfencing has confirmed, the original Ellis & Madison 1993 version (which mine is almost note for note) there were vocals being utilized.

    and he's right about Jess.

  • @homfencing I have to agree with you about the Jess Character, he is so well known in 'youtube drum corps' world, he should be inducted in the hall of fame, under the catagory, most vile, arrogant, negative jerk. But I am breaking my rule on commenting on trolls, giving them any reaction is only being brought into their game. Im open for constructive criticsm, but those taking joy is upsetting others and malicious intent dont deserver our discussion or attention.

  • you did a great job with this.

  • So Cool!

  • Great job!

  • My guess is that you used something along the lines of a ZOOM hand held recorder or digital field recorder of some sorts to capture those drum lines.

  • to be honest, Im not sure... the sounds I contributed are cymbals, crotales, accessories, traps, orchestral percussive sounds, etc. Not sure how he managed to get such isolated sounds of unique toms/basses, press rolls, shots, clicks, etc. The music company that I do a few arrangements for likes me making my own demos (as long as they are quality) and like the contrast to the other.. they wanted to actually bind the SF and sell that as well, but dont think the creator would like it.

  • @skershaw2000 Who is the creator?

  • German friend/associate of mine... he actually went to the states for a couple of years and marched Colts in the tenor line.

  • Looking forward to "Boogie Down". I also created a custom battery sound using GIGA format. Sounded really good, but unfortunately I lost the Gig file along the way some where. I still have the technology, maybe I will try and recreate it. I know what you mean about sounding to clean, I have been having to use chorus on snare line to thicken it up.

  • the SF2 Im using for battery sounds has options for yamaha, pearl, dynasty snares, tenors, basses.... obviously the only REAL difference is in the way the particular lines' tuning schemes sounded.. seriously, something as staccato and dry as a snare, cant be differentiated. However, what works best are the yamaha snares (which thicker or thinner can be had, including solo player, dynasty tenors and yammie basses (which I really like the tuning and have options of about 8)...all recorded from BD

  • by the way... Boogie is up!

  • by the way... will upload "Boogie Down" as soon as I get the film clip prepared... I know there are a few arrangements out there, the Paul Lavender one being very close to the 1984 Bridgemen arrangement, so I took that as a guideline, but improved on it... fun piece, happy, bright and very brassy... percussion just grooves and funks out.

  • Nice to hear that people still use sound font technology. Could you by chance list some of them? Also, good sounds from VDL just in Music Maker. I am running VDL 2.5.2 in Sibelius with brass sounds coming from either Sound Essentials and leaning more torward my East West Orchestra Gold horn sounds. It is a tough thing to compromise between stock midi sounds and using things that sound to orchestral.

  • I agree... even some of the higher end Sonic Implants, Garritan jazz and marching series really do not sound all that hot standing alone. Very difficult to get that marching brass ensemble sound (whether band or corps)... that is why I mix a few sound fonts and mix them in virtual studio... also helps have more control over the trumpet sound. mid (mellophone) sounds get lost, so I also pay attention to this and baritone sounds simply suck on all fonts/libr- solution might to be using mellophone.

  • I think extremely high of VDL and what attention to detail that has gone into it. However, it simply does not fit the bill for the type of demos Im making... it sounds way too "clean"... too much studio reverb and just doesnt have that out on the field sound (gets lost), especially when mixed with full ensemble (front, brass, band)... so I use a custom made, along with a few other percussion customs - I didnt make them, but I did provide a lot of feedback and a few sound clips into them.

  • Yes great stuff, but he will not tell you in detail how he does it. Have already tried asking with no answer back.

  • whoops, sorry... Ive been extremely busy at work, biz travel, etc.

Oh Im sorry, I forget if and when I shared the detail- intensive process of creating a “decent audio sample” (and yes the mp3’s/waves sound much better than these flash films on youtube.)

  • I use a variety of soundfonts (sf2) technology, use multiple scores focusing on either sections or relative ensembles (e.g., trumpets or brass, keyboards or front ensemble) and mix the sound files together in a virtual studio. Sometimes there is something I custom build (like the snare line ride cymbal sound –using many different sounds and then adjusting “chorus”(more than one instance) settings).

  • Not only do I want to produce a good score, but a good audio demo to go with it: being that quality of sound is an essential issue in performance, why not have the best demos possible?

  • This is one awesome piece! Great sounds too. What version of Finale is this? What plug ins were used to create the wounderful brass and battery sounds?

  • What vst plugin was used for the sounds? the brass sounds pretty good and the battery sounds are incredible

  • This is awesome!!!
