@ScarahPhalin Thanks so much. Yeah, music is most often a "mirror" to reflect the world around us... but sometimes it's a "hammer" that helps shape the world around us. I hope you take a minute to check out my "real" website, and pass my newest song all around the country. Seriously... we're shooting the video downtown at "Occupy Wall Street" today and tomorrow so it'll be up on YouTube by next week. This thing is brand new.
Good song great lyrics. I couldn`t watch the video just incase it showed torture. I have seen what `water boarding` is and because I have PTSD, I can`t watch such images, that is assuming the video illustrates what is pure evil.
Poets and song writers throughout History were the ones that made changes. Keep up the good work. PEACE.
@pammyoneto Thanks so much. Yeah, music is most often a "mirror" to reflect the world around us... but sometimes it's a "hammer" that helps shape the world around us. boofeyblitz, Every time someone tells me that Americans should do what other countries do from torture to surpressing public speech I just say "We are better than that"!
Some of us are better, and by God we will drag the rest of you along like little children if that is what it takes.
@sharonb314 Thanks so much. Yeah, music is most often a "mirror" to reflect the world around us... but sometimes it's a "hammer" that helps shape the world around us. I hope you take a minute to check out my "real" website, and pass my newest song all around the country. Great song. It's shameful to our country that Bush and other members of his administration not only tortured, but openly admit it and don't seem to feel any remorse about it at all. Bush is a scumbag and I wish he would go to prison for crimes against humanity.
Concerned about Torture? Listen to George Hunsinger on PirateTV dot net. His 1-hour lecture is devastating. Torturers flee, they scatter like cockroaches before his many years of study and speaking.
Great song. Hard to believe so many people fail to realize this country was started partly to end secret trials and tribunes, which could lead to torture. For my own song on this go to "In The Torture Room" or click on my name to the left of this text block.

You should take your guitar and go sing in a muslim country like Yemen. God only knows what kind of torture those people will put you through. I'm sorry guitar man, but your an idiot. God bless America and Freedom of Speech.
@boofeyblitz I very rarely show up and comment on my own song. If we torture our enemies we are no different than Yemen. Sounds like you're OK with that.
What I wrote in my song is "We should be better than that."
You obviously don't feel the same and that America should behave like these less civilized or enlightened countries.
Sorry boofeyblitz you're not acting on American principle or what Lincoln called "the better angels of out nature". You're simply acting out of fear. I do understand.
The American period of inquisition is bad in our history books. To tolerate it, is to lose our core morality. We have much more to gain by being "the good guys." I like the songs you write. Keep them coming. My family believes that peace is also patriotic.
Great song. As are all your other songs. Superior insight and artistry with your music and videos. I'm just getting into the video area and am taking notes from your efforts. Keep it real and in their face.
Thanks so very much for making this video. It has been shocking to me that none of our legal officers is seeking to bring justice to the men who sought to rule by ego alone. They have been nothing short of treasonous in their attempt to usurp all power to do with our resources what they will with not consideration for anyone but themselves and their wealth.
This week the Italian justice system just indicted our CIA operatives who abducted and sent an untried Italian citizen to Egypt through rendition to be tortured.
It's a shame that a foreign government has to be the conscience of a distracted, ignorant or blindly fearful people here in the U.S.
I understand the feeling. There are a lot of angry people ho feel the same way about the terrorists who would take innocent life. "They're evil so whatever we do to them is justified."
But no matter how evil an enemy... the Good guys don't torture.
We should be better than that.
Truly honorable and decent principles are worth dying for.
Oh yea guitarman, I hear ya! I pretty much have your song memorized and I understand the public faces we see and abhor; the booty these MANY public pirates scoop up is just a pittance compared to those faceless, soul-less aholes behind the scenes pulling their strings. BUT notice another lyric..."life is in mirrors (as in trick mirrors) death disappears...up the steps into the nearest banks (as in creating wars for profit) MAN, I love that you're a possibility junkie...I'm pretty upbeat myself
Good job showcasing the atrocoties. Your a Dylan fan aren't ya? A couple of the verses from his song; "Political World"~~~We live in a political world...Love don't have any place...We're living in times where men commit crimes...and crime don't have a face...We live in a political world...where mercy walks the plank...life is in mirrors, death disappears...up the steps into the nearest bank. PEACE
Yeah, I'm a real fan of Dylan's music. But, in the case if that particular lyric you shared, I've gotta say in this instance... crime most definitely DOES have a face. Check the song and video again and we can see the face of outrageously immoral and undeniable crime.
Then do me a favor. Send the link for this video all around the internet... all around the world.
What a great video, I keep coming back and playing it. It ends with a great moral, we can do better than that. It runs through my head sometimes as I'm walking around, makes me think of things I can do better. Great song, Cool guy!
Does anyone know who the backup woman singer is? She has a fantastic voice!
OOOPPPSS!!! Sorry, typo on word "elitists" Also, a correction; JFK signed order "11110 in June of 1963;not July; and of course was assassinated in Nov.1963 (just in case anyone misunderstood) SOOO; what's the solution?? Maybe a few solutions are in the book "Web of Debt" Google: Rothchild and watch the "Lincoln" video. But be diligent and investigate; read actual HISTORY!!! David, as always, I share with you this road of searching for truth, justice and peace. We will need alot of grace!!!
I hope this won't be considered "off topic". My main thrust here is; war is wrong; torture is wrong!! Personally, I have lived my entire life in peaceful coexistence with people of various religious, racial, ethinic backgrounds. Do any of the MASSES really want to slaughter each other?? NO!!
EVERYBODY!!! Must we marginalize one another??? Rothchild hit it on the head. He didn't care who runs the country. He said, whoever prints the money will control it. Neither the left or the right is relevant. Perception vs. reality. Global elitests want us to "believe" we are electing a president. Repb. Pres, Abe Lincoln, gave the power to print money back to the govt/people....assassinated. Demc.Pres.JFK did the same July 1963..assassinated.
Thanks. Make sure you pass this video on to everyone you know. I was lucky to have so many wonderful artists and Good people contribute to this thing.
The rap artist is a young gun named JC Hall. (He's working on recording some new tracks now.)
I actually caught JC Hall's name in the end credits on second viewing. Keep up the good work David. There's not enough political activist musicians around anymore, that write good stuff. If there is, they're not promoted in the mainstream. I posted this vid on Facebook, and sent it all over on Youtube as well.
This is a excellent and powerful song, and maybe if the the assholes of the world, called "Conservatives" read a Bible, or had a soul, they'd know torture is wrong.
Don't look too closely at that Bible or you may be very disappointed. The OT has some pretty bad stuff in it, supposedly condoned by God, but with all of the omissions, contradictions, and mistakes in the book (read Bart Ehrman) I think it's just a history book written by the victors and largely inaccurate.
This is the best (of the too few) songs that addresses this subject Brave, informative and tells the truth. A great collaboration of artists and too good for government work. But they ought to listen. We cannot retroactively prevent 9/11 by illegally torturing people - thank you David Ippolito.
Glad I saw these comments. I'm learning about hypocrisy and ignorance in the right wing. The man who started a discussion here with "I am okay with torturing terrorists" later wrote, "If they died in custody, they got a few weeks more of life -- a bath and some meals. There's a case to be made for just popping them in the head on the battlefield." This same man has the unmitigated gall to call others "soulless savages." He needs a mirror in his house. Or a dictionary.
I believe that music truly can heal the world, and you David are a true example of that. You know the truth and you are putting your heart and soul into it. I agree with the poster who asked why there were only 11,000 page views for this powerful video. The images, the three of you singing your message LOUD AND CLEAR. and yet, people do not listen...they also don't see beauty or truth. It will be embarrassing if another country has to do this prosecution for us. Come on Obama, JUST DO IT!!
Torture? Not in our name! Time will tell if the special prosecutor will be told to stand down as the investigation into CIA wrong doing under the Bush administration could be traded away for some other political concessions currently under dispute.
I have no respect for the opinion of someone who will bash our government knowing they are safe to do so, and try to equate what we do with what real tyrants do. I do not believe we should be in the business of wholesale torture, but there are times when the needs of the many out weight the needs of the few, or one. A successful attack could result in the torture of dozens or hundreds or thousands or millions of innocent Americans. The trade off can be justified.
We should be better than that. We can be better than that.
If, as a man or as an artist, I don't have your respect.... that's cool with me. I can live with that.
I'm trying to understand the soul-gripping, mind-numbing fear that makes people accept the unacceptable from their own government in the name of "safety".
I understand how fear drives people. I stood in the street here in New York City on 9/11
Just curious... in what part of the country do you live?
I didn't mean to say I don't respect you as a person or a musicial. I meant I have no respect for the opinion you hold. I must have missed your videos denouncing the torture waged by other countries that is far more in line with real torture than a little watrboarding is. All the American prisoners are still alive. Saddams? Castros? Chavez's? Did I miss those videos from you?
C'mon man. Do a little research. Many untried "prisoners" have died in U.S.custody, several tortured to death.
As for "other" songs and videos... I am not a Cuban, an Iraqi, a Korean, or a member of Al Qeda. I am an American citizen. Torture is inhuman, barbaric, disgusting and cowardly when others do it.... but, I care deeply about MY government.
Personally, I am glad our government has taken the threat posed by the enemy combatants seriously enough to take the time to question those who seem to have actionable information, quite possibly stopping another attack on America. If they died in custody, they got a few weeks more of life and a bath and some meals. There is a case to be made for just popping them in the head on the battlefield.
Thanks so much for answering the question. It helps. (Amazing that people so far away can be soooo fearful.)
And thanks for your last comment. It helps me understand the caliber of human being who's doing the commentary.
Last question, (and then I've GOT TO back out of this "comment" page and get back to doing the work I'm meant to do... writing songs.) Last question...
Do you call yourself one of those "persons of faith", or a Christian?
You are aware Florida is in the United States, right? Far away from where?
"Persons of faith", or a Christian... As opposed to what?
The fact you have avoided condemning true torture done by other governments as not important and choose to oppose rigorous interogations done by our government in an effort to protect American citizens helps me understand the caliber of human being who's doing the commentary. Thank goodness that same government will allow you to sleep soundly tonight.
Okay, see now your tunnel-vision is becoming comical. You write "The fact you have avoided condemning true torture done by other governments..." In my recent post I just declared, "Torture is inhuman, barbaric, disgusting and cowardly when others do it."
But again... not answering a question. Call yourself a Christian?
By the way, I sleep much more soundly with a clear conscience, thanks. And, yes.... ha! Florida is in the U.S. But, I don't think East Cupcake, FL is likely to be attacked.
While I realize the difficulty trying to wade through the crime reports and stories about government sponsored underage illegal immigrant prostitution homes in your city, but if you work your way past those stories, you may find out about McDill AFB (ComCent for two wars). This may conflict with you self centered idea that you are the nexus of any attack, but I don't think "guitarguyonyoutube" is anyone other than an American to those who wish to attack the free people of the world.
Ha! Didn't answer another simple question. So I'm going to guess that your too ashamed to admit that while you call yourself a Christian, you are willing to torture another human being to save yourself.
Outta here. Songs to write.
You help me to understand much about the kind of hypocrisy and cowardice that exists behind the veneer of convenient patriotism. Keep watching FOX. They'll tell you what you want to hear. BTW... I am a registered Independent and have been my whole life.
You did not answer as oppose to what, but I guess I would more closely associate myself with being a spiritual person rather than a souless liberal savage.
As to sleeping, I sleep better knowing our government is doing everything in its power to protect American citizens from terrorist attacks, even people in Northeast Cupcake America.
Umm, dickface, please explain why liberals are savage when the right-wing shithole side of America supports torture and war, but thinks gay marriage is evil?
It is all well and good to speak up in a country where you are allowed to speak freely. It is quite another to actually make meaningful statements in a country where you will be tested for your beliefs. I see nothing in your commentary that speaks against real torture, not the equivilent of college hazings and psychological interrogation techniques. I would have far more respect if you had one word about real torture done by Saddam, Bin Laden, Kim Jong Ill, Castro, Amadinajad, or Chavez...
No matter how disgusting, violent, barbaric and immoral our enemies are... WE are supposed to be the Good guys. WE don't torture human beings. (HELL! We've done it before anyone was even given a tribunal or trial.)
Unfortunate that so many act on their fear and become tiny people. Cowards abandon their principles to save their asses. We should be an example to the world - not behave like barbarians. That's courage.
Our purpose is simply stated: To set aside one day every year to celebrate the way each of us felt the day before the world changed forever.
We encourage everyone to take one day during the year to purposefully contemplate who we were then and to rediscover thoughts, feelings, goals, attitudes and world views we all once had. We believe this is a personal journey but we promote September 10th as the day to collectively celebrate the trip.
Ha! Besides... it ain't about BUSH! It's essentially about us... you, me all of us.
Don't people of Reason see. The definition of "courage" is not the absence of fear. It's doing the right thing, living by principles, acting with Goodness and Integrity even when we are threatened, even when we are afraid.
THAT'S what courage is.
We're supposed to be the good guys. WE don't torture. (Besides it makes us the same as the barbarians, makes a shallow, sheepish nation and... um... it's ILLEGAL!)
By the way...I'm not saying Bush wasn't wrong about things. He was. I was mainly venting some, prb about the wrong thing, bc I see those CHEATS like ACORN getting our tax money. Lots of this stuff makes me mad,and I just commented here.
My bad. It was a good song, I listened to it all now. Still not saying that I totally agree tho.
Well, I'm not going to respond to all of that other guys comments.
Cool, man. I'm a registered Independent and have been my whole life. I'm not a Democrat, Republican, Green or anything else.
Yes. Politicians are politicians. We live in a country where politicians on both sides of that aisle are both corrupt and ethical. (Very few "statesmen" left, if any.) But, the Bush administration was by far the most lawless, the most unAmerican - and by misleading and lying cost more American lives than any other in my lifetime, except maybe the Johnson and Nixon admins.
I apologize for name calling. I am not gonna reread all of my posts, but I think I was mainly calling the other writers idiots. And to respond to that other dude, I call ppl idiots bc its a lot nicer than calling them worse names. As for him saying that 9/11 was Bush & Cheney's fault....please. It was the weakening of our Def the 8 yrs prior, and not taking him when we had a chance. I'm not gonna et into something big here, but I'm no against saving American lives by doing what we have to.
pipsondemand: Thanks, but calling broscoq names and insulting him serves nothing. Don't you see? When some like him writes "these terrorists don't play by our same rules" he is in fact saying that, when afraid, he is willing to abandon our principles to live by theirs. If he had listened to the song he might have gotten to the lyric, "We should be better than that."
I don't get pissed off when frightened people call me names. It's just the fear talking. I understand.
The confidential President's Daily Brief (PDB) for August 6, 2001 contained a two-page section entitled "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US," and refers to possible hijacking attempts by Osama bin Laden disciples and the existence of about 70 FBI investigations into alleged al-Qaeda cells operating within the United States. The August 6 PDB, an excerpt from which you'll find below, was presented to Bush while he vacationed at his ranch in Crawford, Texas.
APRIL 10--Under pressure from the September 11 commission, the White House today declassified and released an intelligence digest given to President George W. Bush weeks before the 2001 terrorist attacks.
Stupid. I could only handle 2 minutes of it. I can't say torture is good, and I hardly believe that Cheney is a torture hound who loves it. Thats ridiculous. He's a great American who wants to keep us safe. The thing you idiots don't understand is that these terrorists don't play by our same rules. Sure, it'd be nice to be able to have a higher moral standard, but our safety is more important....would you agree? If not, I hope they get you next. You are absolute morons! God Bless the USA!!!!!
Saying I don't have a brain....good one. As far as calling me under-educated, wrong again. But, I'm not gonna reply to all of your comments. You prb have to get going anyways, I hear the lines at the uneployment office are pretty long these days.
I am sorry but I don't understand why you are going after Cheney and Bush? I saw Tom Ridge on Rachel Maddow last night and he said that the Bush administration only did what they thought would protect us, nothing just for political reasons. I got a little upset when Rachel questioned their PATRIOTISM. Isn't it "at any cost" in America, you know to save lives?
I am awed by your question, "Isn't it 'at any cost' in America, you know to save lives?"
The short and only answer is "NO!"
Have we become such a fearful, cowering people that we would abandon our humanity, decency, and principles to remain "safe"?
Torture is morally repugnant and evil but, in this country, it is also ILLEGAL. If Dick Cheney and Bush authorized it's use, that makes them "criminals" as well as lying, disgraceful human beings. NO ONE is supposed to be above the law.
David, to be honest I was using the Fix News & GOP talking points and in no way truly meant what I wrote. I was pretending to be a right wing "sheep". I am with you 100% and support what you are doing. We need more like you doing this. I just get so much crap at work, constant harrassment for voting or supporting Obama and I am worried for our Nation based on what King George II did to our nation and our reputation. Now, we have to be concerned with "our" Presidents security.
Yeah, you're right. "Safety at any cost" is exactly the kind of cowardly thing they propagate on FOX... Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity lead the way on that front.
Apparently I am one of those "sheep" you are referring to. Hmm, interesting. At least I can say what I believe in & what I support. What has Obama done that is so great to get your 2 thumbs up? Spend us into TRILLIONS of dollars of debt? Lie about bills he hasn't even read & expect us to believe what he's saying bc he's a good orator, or because the liberal media is just his personal microphone? They're not journalists, they're the sheep. He'll be gone in 2012, then the rebuilding can begin.
Noone is supposed to be above the law, but how come you or would be in prison if we were like half of the Presidents cabinet in regards to tax-paying. Can't have a double standard. I'd support getting information by any means necessary to protect innocent American lives. These ppl that are being questioned are not innocent (for the most part) and should be shot.
Good one idiot! Throw the people who keep us safe in jail? Let the tax-chats and terrorist friends like Bill Ayers go free, better yet hold prominent positions in this administration. Wow, another idiot among us. No wonder this President got elected....so many idiots out there voting for the 1st time ever.
Torture is barbaric used by rogue states. Bush administration really dragged this country down internationally. We can no longer accuse other countries who practice torture because now we torture. Torture is wrong, immoral and it must stop. Those who believe in it should study history,
Hey, guess what? Ralph Lopez is a terroist sympathizer. Did you dance and cheer on 9/11 you worthless stain? Did you? If you hate America so much as to root for our enemies, then GET OUT.
I find myself wondering why you have all this hate in you and where would that put your ability to love anything at all, including your country.
at any rate, the song represents a valid point of view, if you love your country you know that freedom of speech is one of its basic tenets. take that away and you have nothing.
if you can't reconcile with that then you're the one who should move to another country
fortunately there are fewer of those countries around these days
Nope. If you like Bush then you are the terrorist sympathizer. Guess who let bin Laden slip away at Tora Bora? Yup. Bush. There were 800 Marines in Kandahar that Gary Berntsen (the Special Forces commander at Tora Bora in Nov. 2001) was begging Bush and Tommy Franks to let him use to block bin Laden's escape. Bush could have killed bin Laden right then but he didn't. So who helps terrorists? Anyway I like you. Your silly. I didn't know they had internet connections at funny farms.

Another thing, you have a filthy liberal as president now, and you have control of the government, what are you waiting for? Could it be that torture works? People need it to keep the country safe.
If you got your head out of the comic books you'd know it doesn't work, ask Ex-CIA Director William Colby (search youtube "Colby on torture") But I doubt any facts will make a difference to you as you are obviously a severely damaged person. The real question is how you got this way, poor thing.

Liberals love terrorists. Next attack I hope they target a bunch of anti torture treasonists. I have an idea for Mr. Ippolito, get a job you filthy piece of excrement.
If OUR representatives aren't accountable for their actions then we're in more trouble than many can imagine; because if corrupt and criminal representatives know they won't be held accountable by the citizens of the US. They won't stop. To their way of thinking, why should they? It is up to "We the people" to stop them. There's no one else.
I know it's easy to talk, but it will take millions of people marching into Washington D.C. to tell the current administration that they had better get moving and BE THE CHANGE or you had better get them changed. Period. This is a great piece of activism and everyone who can should support it and get those ads out.
Good luck everyone, lets take our Countries back before it's too late.
Christians you can help join the National Religious Campaign Against Torture

Attorney General Holder is a churchgoing man (like Obama) only punishment can insure nothing like this ever happens to children again under the US government.
Who so shall offend one of these little onesit were better that a millstone was hanged about his neck and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Matthew 18:6
Attorney General, say "Appoint a Special Prosecutor" at (202) 353-1555.
It gets much worse folks. Read the article "President Carter: Many Children Were Tortured Under Bush" Google this title and you will find it. Excerpt: "Iraqi TV reporter, Suhaib Badr-Addin al-Baz, said in Abu Graib he saw "hundreds" of children there. Al-Baz said he heard one 12-year-old girl crying, "They have undressed me. They have poured water over me." He said he heard her whimpering daily. "
Call the Office of the Attorney General, "Appoint a Special Prosecutor" at (202) 353-1555.
When exactly did torture become acceptable? It's like watching the CEO's of health insurance companies feeding off the sick people. All is UNacceptable!
Hey Toni... just listen to some of your tracks from "Keep the Faith". Wonderful stuff.
Wonderful.
"...God in the Supermarket" - I see God in Central Park every weekend! D'oh... no there she is over there. No wait, maybe that's him.
Can't change that lyric, though. As a nation, we're not better than that until we "live" the change we want to be. Y'know? Until we back up our words, we are still a nation in which torture is acceptable. We "should" be... and we "can" be... but, we're not yet.
Well - i mean "as a nation" we're not better than that... yet.
I thought VERY hard about that lyric. I actually had "We WILL be better than that" laid down but had to go back in the next studio session and change it to we CAN be.
Y'know? I hope we WILL be. It's not a done-deal. If we don't enforce our laws and uphold the laws of basic human decency... we need to admit the Truth about ourselves at this point in human history.
Still... I have another new song called "KEEP HOPE ALIVE"
Aloha from the beautiful island of Kauai Hawaii..... thank you! I am a singer named Toni Childs and I would like to say your song is absolutely right on. WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT and it is time that WE REMEMBERED IT! Cheers... if your single please find me and take me out to dinner. haHA!!! I like your style peace, love gratitude, t
Without sounding like some paranoid conspiracy theorist I have to ask myself if we really don't know where the terrorists (Binladen) are hiding or their plans?
Could the torturing have been a mask to try to convince "WE THE PEOPLE" that such an extreme measure was necessary in order to get info on their whereabouts and a show of desperation to do so?
Either way it's wrong.
It's an open invitation to all countries to practice something that was outlawed long ago.
David, you are truly a heroic patriot and I'm proud and thrilled to be working with you on producing the tv ads to get Holder to investigate and prosecute Cheney and others for torture. Visualize Cheney being indicted by the end of September everyone. We WILL make this happen.
Cynthia Papermaster, Berkeley, National Accountability Network, CODEPINK, PDA
I hope people understand that this effort is not about revenge or retribution. It's about upholding our rule of law, our Constitution... our foundation.
If people like John Yoo, Don Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, George Bush and others are allowed to operate above the law without consequence, then this magnificent experiment in self-governance called The United States of America is over - and it's become something else unrecognizable. (That might be.)
D'oh.... but I'm no hero. It's just the next right thing to do. And, it's part of my job description as an American singer/songwriter to "comfort the disturbed.... and disturb the comfortable".
Great song I pray it goes viral There will be those that prefer to remain in the dark unaware of what happened but that does not excuse some one from doing some thing they know is wrong . One day they will be brought to justice and it is there they will face their crimes
Well, let AG Eric Holde know! Cos he's getting ready to start an investigation of the war crimes against our former presidential administration. Please be SURE to tell him how u feel at:Democrats Dot)com
It's never that clear cut buddy.. The torture tactics that have been used did not gain ANY intel that led to the prevention of a terrorist plot. The Bush administration will tell u different of course, yet they don't have a shred of legitimate proof...
if you want to sacrifice your life for a terrorist by all means do so but im talking about if thousands of innocent people were killed for the sake of us being afraid to sacrifice our morals to get the needed information to stop the attack. "We become the terrorists when we sacrifice our morals for the sake of safety.' we have done this since becoming a nation, killing people isnt in anyone's moral objective but sometimes it has to be done, for safety of the family and nation.
if we lived by your standards i wonder where we would be. if you think im a coward because i would rather see a dead terrorist then thousands of innocents then so be it
I think it is obvious that u have misread my input. For one, I wouldn't be sacrificing my life for a terrorist. I'm saying that, as a real patriot, I would be willing to sacrifice my life for the principles that this nation was founded upon, which for your information did not include torturing others out of so-called "necessity". So i would not be taking a bullet for a terrorist, i would be sacrificing my life so that we don't throw away our values in order to Torture one.
If you call that fear than u obviously don't understand that word's definition. An example of acting out of FEAR is resorting to TORTURE because we don't have the guts to stand by our morals as a nation.
Second, killing is not the same as torturing so you're moving off topic. Killing someone in a war is taking the life of another who is trying to take yours for a common, national purpose (let's say WWII, one where that purpose was actually ethical). Torturing someone is, having captured an enemy, using severe physical and mental distress-inducing techniques upon a defenseless victim to attain information (which can never be trusted anyway). The two are extremely different.
However, to answer your other comment; yes, our nation has sacrificed it's morals in the name of safety since the beginning of the US. And if u go through our history you will see that all this kind of behavior has ever done is tear the seams that bind us together as a country as well as the seams that attach us to the international community.
America has and continues to demonize several nations for the lack of freedoms they allow their people (the Soviet Union/ Russia and China for starters) and the terrible war crimes that many of them have committed. However, even though we feel the need to hold them accountable for their refusal to grant liberties, we ignore what we preach and commit war crimes ourselves without expecting any consequences!
Our hypocrisy has us as the laughing stock of the developed world! We've gone from that solid beacon of light on top a hill to a strobe light that has its moments, but only in short spurts...
It is straying from our moral fiber that has gotten us into the mess in the Middle East that we are in today. Where do you think the Taliban learned all of their subversive, guerilla tactics? From us when we trained them to fight the Russians! So you wonder where we would be today if there were more people like me? I do to And the answer is a much, much more peaceful world.
Save it you can`t have it both ways the American Government has been subverting other countries for years . As soon as the regime in power no longer suits the motives of the CIA They are gone and in comes the new boss
However, this is not the argument that needs to be made: whether torture is effective or not or has saved lives. What needs to be brought to light, which i believe this song does beautifully, is that by torturing fellow human beings- no matter how depraved- we are stooping to the their level. We become the terrorists when we sacrifice our morals for the sake of safety.
If u are an American, and are proud to be one, by definition u are proud of the principles and values that this nation has been built upon. Sorry, but cutting people's balls off is not noted in our Constitution as what is necessary to maintain our freedom. The US was built upon the ideology of independence, and the past 8 years have done nothing but remove several civil liberties in the name of "protecting" our citizens. In fact, it has done the exact opposite...
If u thought anti-American sentiment was high before 9/11, then the level of it now would appear unfathomable. As a proud American I would die for the principles that this nation was built upon, and if that meant that not torturing a terrorist would cause me my life, so be it. That's true patriotism... Not the cowardice you clearly abide by...
Chill. It's pretty obvious that cujoenyo simply doesn't have a complete grasp of the issue or the principle involved. (Possibly watching too much FOX.)
That's okay.
That's precisely why the song was written. That's why the video was made... to start the discussion so that "better angels of our nature" will come to understand what's going on here and what's truly at stake. (I think ALL men and women of good conscience and character will come around once they truly understand.)
David, simply outstanding!!, 5-stars!! - ....I will be forwarding to many friends & family,....hoping to improve circulation, exposure, and awareness,........and THANK YOU,....GJM
I posted a few days ago about my father's feelings on this subject and you asked me to get back to you. He says that because I've never been in war that I am naive about what it takes to protect ourselves.
And so the seeds of hate are sown that grow from war to war. But at least he admits that he's frightened and will do ANYTHING to protect himself.
Still, truly sad about much of the American citizenry at this point in human history. Many people feel that torture is acceptable once again because they are frightened of bodily harm or death, and that makes it okay to abandon human decency and principle.
Those are the people who need to hear this song and talk about it.
You are principled, decent, courageous... and stronger in a way most of those people like that will never understand. (Now... THAT'S the kind of American I wanna hang with!!!)
Thanks! Now, please take just a minute to send the link for this video to as many people as you can. Gotta get the word out. Gotta put the pressure on. Gotta bring simple reason and the Voice of the People back into to the equation.

PEACE.

Oh yea guitarman, I hear ya! I pretty much have your song memorized and I understand the public faces we see and abhor; the booty these MANY public pirates scoop up is just a pittance compared to those faceless, soul-less aholes behind the scenes pulling their strings. BUT notice another lyric..."life is in mirrors (as in trick mirrors) death disappears...up the steps into the nearest banks (as in creating wars for profit) MAN, I love that you're a possibility junkie...I'm pretty upbeat myself
dylanfanify 2 years ago
Good job showcasing the atrocoties. Your a Dylan fan aren't ya? A couple of the verses from his song; "Political World"~~~We live in a political world...Love don't have any place...We're living in times where men commit crimes...and crime don't have a face...We live in a political world...where mercy walks the plank...life is in mirrors, death disappears...up the steps into the nearest bank. PEACE

Thanks Dyalnfanify!

This is a excellent and powerful song, and maybe if the the assholes of the world, called "Conservatives" read a Bible, or had a soul, they'd know torture is wrong.
ledawg1138 2 years ago
Don't look too closely at that Bible or you may be very disappointed. The OT has some pretty bad stuff in it, supposedly condoned by God, but with all of the omissions, contradictions, and mistakes in the book (read Bart Ehrman) I think it's just a history book written by the victors and largely inaccurate.

Torture? Not in our name! Time will tell if the special prosecutor will be told to stand down as the investigation into CIA wrong doing under the Bush administration could be traded away for some other political concessions currently under dispute.
plunk52o 2 years ago
I have no respect for the opinion of someone who will bash our government knowing they are safe to do so, and try to equate what we do with what real tyrants do. I do not believe we should be in the business of wholesale torture, but there are times when the needs of the many out weight the needs of the few, or one. A successful attack could result in the torture of dozens or hundreds or thousands or millions of innocent Americans. The trade off can be justified.
t00nces2 2 years ago
We should be better than that. We can be better than that.
If, as a man or as an artist, I don't have your respect.... that's cool with me. I can live with that.
I'm trying to understand the soul-gripping, mind-numbing fear that makes people accept the unacceptable from their own government in the name of "safety".
I understand how fear drives people. I stood in the street here in New York City on 9/11
Just curious... in what part of the country do you live?
thatguitarman 2 years ago
I didn't mean to say I don't respect you as a person or a musicial. I meant I have no respect for the opinion you hold. I must have missed your videos denouncing the torture waged by other countries that is far more in line with real torture than a little watrboarding is. All the American prisoners are still alive. Saddams? Castros? Chavez's? Did I miss those videos from you?
t00nces2 2 years ago
"All the American prisoners are still alive."
No, that is patently false.
We SHOULD be better than that.
But... you didn't answer my question.

Florida
t00nces2 2 years ago
Personally, I am glad our government has taken the threat posed by the enemy combatants seriously enough to take the time to question those who seem to have actionable information, quite possibly stopping another attack on America. If they died in custody, they got a few weeks more of life and a bath and some meals. There is a case to be made for just popping them in the head on the battlefield.
t00nces2 2 years ago
Thanks so much for answering the question. It helps. (Amazing that people so far away can be soooo fearful.)
And thanks for your last comment. It helps me understand the caliber of human being who's doing the commentary.
Last question, (and then I've GOT TO back out of this "comment" page and get back to doing the work I'm meant to do... writing songs.) Last question...
Do you call yourself one of those "persons of faith", or a Christian?
Thanks for taking the time to respond. It helps.
thatguitarman 2 years ago
You are aware Florida is in the United States, right? Far away from where?
"Persons of faith", or a Christian... As opposed to what?
The fact you have avoided condemning true torture done by other governments as not important and choose to oppose rigorous interogations done by our government in an effort to protect American citizens helps me understand the caliber of human being who's doing the commentary. Thank goodness that same government will allow you to sleep soundly tonight.
t00nces2 2 years ago
Okay, see now your tunnel-vision is becoming comical. You write "The fact you have avoided condemning true torture done by other governments..." In my recent post I just declared, "Torture is inhuman, barbaric, disgusting and cowardly when others do it."
But again... not answering a question. Call yourself a Christian?
By the way, I sleep much more soundly with a clear conscience, thanks. And, yes.... ha! Florida is in the U.S. But, I don't think East Cupcake, FL is likely to be attacked.
thatguitarman 2 years ago
While I realize the difficulty trying to wade through the crime reports and stories about government sponsored underage illegal immigrant prostitution homes in your city, but if you work your way past those stories, you may find out about McDill AFB (ComCent for two wars). This may conflict with you self centered idea that you are the nexus of any attack, but I don't think "guitarguyonyoutube" is anyone other than an American to those who wish to attack the free people of the world.
t00nces2 2 years ago
Be well.

You did not answer as oppose to what, but I guess I would more closely associate myself with being a spiritual person rather than a souless liberal savage.
As to sleeping, I sleep better knowing our government is doing everything in its power to protect American citizens from terrorist attacks, even people in Northeast Cupcake America.
t00nces2 2 years ago
Umm, dickface, please explain why liberals are savage when the right-wing shithole side of America supports torture and war, but thinks gay marriage is evil?
ledawg1138 2 years ago

Besides... torture is ILLEGAL.

Welcome to the 9/10 Project.

Isn't it "at any cost" in America, you know to save lives?
stoptherightwing 2 years ago
I am awed by your question, "Isn't it 'at any cost' in America, you know to save lives?"
The short and only answer is "NO!"
Have we become such a fearful, cowering people that we would abandon our humanity, decency, and principles to remain "safe"?
Torture is morally repugnant and evil but, in this country, it is also ILLEGAL. If Dick Cheney and Bush authorized it's use, that makes them "criminals" as well as lying, disgraceful human beings. NO ONE is supposed to be above the law.

Now, we have to be concerned with "our" Presidents security.

DREADLORDS19891992 2 years ago
I find myself wondering why you have all this hate in you and where would that put your ability to love anything at all, including your country.
at any rate, the song represents a valid point of view, if you love your country you know that freedom of speech is one of its basic tenets. take that away and you have nothing.
if you can't reconcile with that then you're the one who should move to another country
fortunately there are fewer of those countries around these days
alexabravanel 2 years ago

Please change the lyric at the end to an affirmation. We ARE better than that!
annettebard 2 years ago
Hey Toni... just listen to some of your tracks from "Keep the Faith".
We "should" be... and we "can" be... but, we're not yet.
thatguitarman 2 years ago
Well - i mean "as a nation" we're not better than that... yet.
I thought VERY hard about that lyric. I actually had "We WILL be better than that" laid down but had to go back in the next studio session and change it to we CAN be.
Y'know? I hope we WILL be. It's not a done-deal. If we don't enforce our laws and uphold the laws of basic human decency... we need to admit the Truth about ourselves at this point in human history.
Still... I have another new song called "KEEP HOPE ALIVE"

Who is the woman singing alongside you in several scenes?
lahershe13 2 years ago 2
Without sounding like some paranoid conspiracy theorist I have to ask myself if we really don't know where the terrorists (Binladen) are hiding or their plans?
Could the torturing have been a mask to try to convince "WE THE PEOPLE" that such an extreme measure was necessary in order to get info on their whereabouts and a show of desperation to do so?
Either way it's wrong.
It's an open invitation to all countries to practice something that was outlawed long ago.
Another step backwards.

Let's hope not.

madebutante 2 years ago
It's never that clear cut buddy.. The torture tactics that have been used did not gain ANY intel that led to the prevention of a terrorist plot. The Bush administration will tell u different of course, yet they don't have a shred of legitimate proof...
Fienix16 2 years ago
if you want to sacrifice your life for a terrorist by all means do so but im talking about if thousands of innocent people were killed for the sake of us being afraid to sacrifice our morals to get the needed information to stop the attack. "We become the terrorists when we sacrifice our morals for the sake of safety.' we have done this since becoming a nation, killing people isnt in anyone's moral objective but sometimes it has to be done, for safety of the family and nation.
cujoenyo 2 years ago
if we lived by your standards i wonder where we would be. if you think im a coward because i would rather see a dead terrorist then thousands of innocents then so be it
cujoenyo 2 years ago
I think it is obvious that u have misread my input. For one, I wouldn't be sacrificing my life for a terrorist. I'm saying that, as a real patriot, I would be willing to sacrifice my life for the principles that this nation was founded upon, which for your information did not include torturing others out of so-called "necessity". So i would not be taking a bullet for a terrorist, i would be sacrificing my life so that we don't throw away our values in order to Torture one.
Fienix16 2 years ago
If you call that fear than u obviously don't understand that word's definition. An example of acting out of FEAR is resorting to TORTURE because we don't have the guts to stand by our morals as a nation.
Fienix16 2 years ago
Second, killing is not the same as torturing so you're moving off topic. Killing someone in a war is taking the life of another who is trying to take yours for a common, national purpose (let's say WWII, one where that purpose was actually ethical). Torturing someone is, having captured an enemy, using severe physical and mental distress-inducing techniques upon a defenseless victim to attain information (which can never be trusted anyway). The two are extremely different.
Fienix16 2 years ago
However, to answer your other comment; yes, our nation has sacrificed it's morals in the name of safety since the beginning of the US. And if u go through our history you will see that all this kind of behavior has ever done is tear the seams that bind us together as a country as well as the seams that attach us to the international community.
Fienix16 2 years ago 2
America has and continues to demonize several nations for the lack of freedoms they allow their people (the Soviet Union/ Russia and China for starters) and the terrible war crimes that many of them have committed. However, even though we feel the need to hold them accountable for their refusal to grant liberties, we ignore what we preach and commit war crimes ourselves without expecting any consequences!
Fienix16 2 years ago 2
Our hypocrisy has us as the laughing stock of the developed world! We've gone from that solid beacon of light on top a hill to a strobe light that has its moments, but only in short spurts...
Fienix16 2 years ago
It is straying from our moral fiber that has gotten us into the mess in the Middle East that we are in today. Where do you think the Taliban learned all of their subversive, guerilla tactics? From us when we trained them to fight the Russians! So you wonder where we would be today if there were more people like me? I do to And the answer is a much, much more peaceful world.
Fienix16 2 years ago
Save it you can`t have it both ways the American Government has been subverting other countries for years . As soon as the regime in power no longer suits the motives of the CIA They are gone and in comes the new boss
RICK360000 2 years ago
However, this is not the argument that needs to be made: whether torture is effective or not or has saved lives. What needs to be brought to light, which i believe this song does beautifully, is that by torturing fellow human beings- no matter how depraved- we are stooping to the their level. We become the terrorists when we sacrifice our morals for the sake of safety.
Fienix16 2 years ago
If u are an American, and are proud to be one, by definition u are proud of the principles and values that this nation has been built upon. Sorry, but cutting people's balls off is not noted in our Constitution as what is necessary to maintain our freedom. The US was built upon the ideology of independence, and the past 8 years have done nothing but remove several civil liberties in the name of "protecting" our citizens. In fact, it has done the exact opposite...
Fienix16 2 years ago
If u thought anti-American sentiment was high before 9/11, then the level of it now would appear unfathomable. As a proud American I would die for the principles that this nation was built upon, and if that meant that not torturing a terrorist would cause me my life, so be it. That's true patriotism... Not the cowardice you clearly abide by...
(In response to cujoenyo)
Fienix16 2 years ago

Hi David,
I posted a few days ago about my father's feelings on this subject and you asked me to get back to you. He says that because I've never been in war that I am naive about what it takes to protect ourselves.
22atHeart 2 years ago
And so the seeds of hate are sown that grow from war to war. But at least he admits that he's frightened and will do ANYTHING to protect himself.
Still, truly sad about much of the American citizenry at this point in human history. Many people feel that torture is acceptable once again because they are frightened of bodily harm or death, and that makes it okay to abandon human decency and principle.
Those are the people who need to hear this song and talk about it.
thatguitarman 2 years ago
But, in my world YOU are not naive.
You are principled, decent, courageous... and stronger in a way most of those people like that will never understand. (Now... THAT'S the kind of American I wanna hang with!!!)
