I used to go regularly to this magnificent cinema for organ concerts when it still showed films and I just can`t describe the thrill I got every time the WurliTzer console rose spinning from the side of the stage. To lose this fine organ is unthinkable and I sincerely hope that the building and the organ will remain united for many years to come.
I have never been inside the Gaumont State in Kilbirn, but it looks beautiful in your Video. I do hope that the new owners look after it and retain its lovely Art Deco style and its unique Wurlitzer organ, which I believe, had to be specially constructed to fit into a rather small area. The Organists seat was almost the size of a Bicycle Saddle !!
Amazing place, i was only looking at it saturday just gone it's sad to see it closed now the bingo has gone, but i read a church organisation has purchased it which is good, better them than a property developer, be nice tosee it restored back to it's heyday!
