  • I have trouble finding transitions to solos....I can do scale runs but i am trying to find the right single notes or chords to transition into good solos. any tips?

  • there nt tht bad u guys

  • Um, what about Al di meola and paco de lucia? Mediterranean Sundance??? 1976??? I love malmsteen, but lets not give him too much credit. Lucia would blow him out of the water. This is my favorite scale patter in the world, btw. I tend to overuse it in improv...

  • You could get locked up for fingering a minor dude..

  • why do they call it threads

  • nice run ... thanks for sharing this lick

  • first , i thought it was the dave murray signature strat =)

  • a little tricky, so watch.. **zooms in, then plays something 5 times as complex**

  • 0:28

    Says it all.

  • Gary SHIT

  • @MasterChip115 Gary is a good guitarist, Stop fucking trolling.

  • @Sagaterious Lol I know he is pretty good ive watched his other videos before. Ive just seen others post the same so I thought I would as well. I have actually learned some valuable things from watching him :)

  • This tone is pretty gross.

  • EXPERT VILLAGE FUCKIN SUCKS! just sayin...

  • @Warmonger5000 Except this guy!!!

  • 7, 4 um A string no B string 3rd fret no 5th fret ,never fucking mind

  • Anyone who thinks music is defined by the guitar brand it is being played on (ie. claiming you can't 'be metal' with a fender), is an asshat.

  • Did he say is name is Gray S***

  • yaay! cya later minor pentatonic xD

  • @zSomeGuy666z its actually pentatonic minor

  • folk slagging this guy off on here don't even have 5% of his talent. This is actually a fucking good example.

  • holy fuck, this video totally just set a lightbulb off in my head, that ascending exersize he does up the neck can be done with any shape of any scale cause every third string you end up back at the octave, wow that just made shredding so much easier, try it, if you know what this means do an A Dorian and skip the 4th scale degree while playing the 7th on the A string still, then repeat at the octave, and then the next, badass huh? works with everything, diminished is even more wicked

  • This is actually a pretty good demo of the scale

  • It's guys like these that make me lose faith in mankind... He is officially dubbed "Captain Obvious"

  • expert my ass.

  • YOU DONT KNOW S*** MAN!!!!

  • @1jacksonone ahahaha. that made me laugh.

  • over fail !! but nice ^^

  • All bullshit aside, this guy is very talented with an array of instruments. Bass, drums, keyboard and guitar. He should have done one more take once he was warmed up and had all the kinks worked out. Search his name on the Tube and you'll see all his stuff.

  • is this a joke?

  • tony hawk's playing heavy metal guitar nice

  • @bezkoszulki lmao good one

  • 240p?

  • Watch my lesson on harmonic minor scale n tell me if u liked it :)

  • hey stop trollin all the other guys from expert village cut out their mistakes but this guy is not affraid to make mistakes so go fuck ur self and remember its ok to make mistakes (rule dose not apply when playin on stage then its just a fail)

  • hahaha.....haha.....fender strat....squier...haha

  • strats r gay pussy broomsticks!(:

  • @TheDallyLama Hey Fuckstick, Kirk Hammet uses a Strat.

  • @Destroyer4292 my point exactly...

  • @Destroyer4292 He uses an ESP guitar that was modeled off of a strat.

  • @SomewhatSublime That's his main guitar, which is called a "superstrat". He also uses regular strat's.

  • @Destroyer4292 no he doesnt he uses esp's

  • @Kirkfan410 He uses 'strat' style ESPs. look at the video for one. It isn't a fender strat, just EPS strat like model, ive seen these at shops before. W\hile Kirk uses mostly ESP's he uses a crap load of other varieties as well

  • @Kirkfan410

    who cares, kirk sucks.

    Iron Maiden use Strat

  • @Destroyer4292 you high? kirk plays with esp

  • @jakezdpreez he prefers gibson, and now a days, he doesnt use esp anymore. the band had a contract with esp for something like 15 years, and it ran out. hetfield said in an interview that he was so sick of esp guitars by the time it ran out, and kirk does use strats, watch the video for "one" he uised to use either a strat or a gibson flying v on stage and in recordings before the esp contract

  • @Metalhead12828 yea he did before he discovered esp he used the flying v but esp is his signature models its his main guitar he also uses jackson guitars and idk what else but i dont think kirk would bother playing guitars he didnt like

  • @Destroyer4292 he used a strat in load/reload but he almost always uses esp's

  • @Destroyer4292 and dont forget dave murray and somewhat adrian smith :)

  • @TheDallyLama Distorted power chords are manly anthems.

  • If I was going to upload a video on a channel called "expert village" I would at least make sure I didn't make a mistake. Sure everyone makes a mistake but to put it as a lesson is just stupid.

  • sounds like someone needs to work on their alternate picking. Works great as a legato run.

  • Good player but you don't help at all you need tabs. Just playing doesn't teach people anything.

  • @boxerjr713 It's just like a minor scale but with one little change, if you don't know the minor scale just learn it first then this video is really helpful :)

  • @PunkGuitar4Life Ok cool man I'll check it out thanks a bunch!! :D gracias amigo tu es muy beuno lol rock on dude!!

  • "Gary Schutt was born and raised in Monticello, NY."

Sounds like a chicken or something; "raised".

    "Attended"? Don't you joined? xD

  • "This is A Minor..."

    "It's a very sad scale."

    XD

  • Ha! :) This is great. love itYah rockonbzbzbzbzbzbz

  • he should...stop

  • great vid man thanks!

  • That was Awesome!!!!!

  • wow you suck i cant learn shit from you

  • hey bud check out my videos and send me your videos at guitargod796 please leave a coment on at least one of my videos

  • maybe you should learn how to play it before you teach it huh

  • this guys amazing...but when he speaks it looks like he can't control what comes out, after every word he looks confused haha

  • Ibanez=gay (unless ur Steve vai lol) fender= the greatest and most versatile guitars ever created by man, iron maiden= metal

  • @SirBurnsicus yeah nothing can beat those tone machines, ahhhhh Fender Fine Electric Instruments :)

  • @SirBurnsicus paul gilbert uses ibanez. is he gay?? my friend, YOU WILL DIE

  • @terainwer yeah lol so will the rest of us, and fine, paul gilbert isnt gay and neither is ibanze, it just seems gay when comaped to a strat lol.

  • @SirBurnsicus yeah according only to you. how old are you? you are a kid right? you are not a real musician. there are a lot of good guitars out there, it is up to you how you set it up to your preference.

  • @scanme214 listen man, i can honestly say it was a joke, if i was being serious i would have come up with a few better reasons than that to support myself. I understand that its up to you, ibanez makes great guitars, and i am a real musician mind you.

  • @MrWankata or an Ibanez

  • Was that world painted blood at the end???

  • metal mate with fender....isnt metal

  • @juku223 umm look at Iron Maiden.

  • @James0543 umm... thats kinda softy

  • @juku223 no, you are softy.

  • hey man ,very helpful video. very good tone ,hey which duncans are you using ??????

  • If you guys are actually going to bash his "strat" look at the pickups. It's a custom Ibanez Gio series guitar...

  • @IbanezShredderMan dude wtf are you talking about? look at the headstock it's a C shape. Ibanez do not have the Fender necks, please get your facts straight.

  • @James0543 Sorry didnt look at the headstock but usually the ibanez custom gios usually have double humbuckers

  • @James0543 fuck off retard

  • @MrDonbago Was that necessary? what are you all butt-hurt about? I was simply stating a fact.

  • This kind of "harmonic minor" discovery is but the start. There is an unimaginable wealth of scales in oriental music, but unfortunately the cemented western diatonic has already made it impossible to play them on most instruments, with just some few exceptions. The electric guitar is one of these exceptions as it provides so many ways to change pitch "on the fly". It is subtle but is works wonders. You can go even for intervals like an eighth of a tone - but of course it needs extreme control.

  • this scales is a pain to play from high E string back up the low E fast paced..

  • @burtonkid0012 wuss...

  • @TheMaddoxfam says the guy that nerds out on youtube and has nothing but video game uploads...... loser

  • @burtonkid0012 wowowow.... I at least can play!

  • @TheMaddoxfam any evidence? humm?

  • @burtonkid0012 going on 8 years of music theory and making a band... sounds good enough to me

  • @TheMaddoxfam nice, i know nothing about theory, but i Did get accepted into Musicians Institute, hopefully this next semester I will be attending. I know im not as good as thos kids on guitar hero by any means, but im gonna go out on a limb and say I think i can play ;)

  • Ok, im not going to say im a huge fan but you need to realize "heavy metal" isn't going to teach you some insane Necrophagist riffage. This guy isn't going to play chunky gallopy string skipping Squealy riffs. Hes going to play chord based slower older style more mainstream music. You cant hate for him not playing or showing something that the video doesn't say he will show you. Heavy metal is Alice Cooper or Kiss, even Zep and Hendrix, although many genres are "sub" to Metal and Heavy metal.

  • really good lesson keep it coming!

  • thread ???

  • thx, I've playing that scale for a while...nice to find something to do other than the scale itself! I also do phrygian dominant in A in all 5 positions! along with Hindu, harmonic major, natural major and minor pentatonic, but not all of them every day, just 1 or 2 scales per day in all 5 positions usually, except when I'm still learning the scale...so far, I've never met a scale I didn't like, at least that's what I claim! And I learned it all on the internet and youtube!

  • thx man wicked.

  • God Damn Poptarts!...

  • Haha, you call that expert?

  • just curious...i only have 3 fingers to work with long story as to why but just curious if there are ways to make the harmonic minor using only fingers

  • man he's awsome no homo i can never play attention to what he says

  • You are John petrucci look alike hehe I'm from japan but I'm filipino

  • 0:00

  • randy rhoads used it before yngwie malmsteen you cant teach a scale in 3 minutes

  • Hey Dude, All That Soloing You Did Their, Is That All Harmonic Scales?......

  • i like his ''lack of motion'' in his fingers he needs a little practice on the run but his finger setting looks real cool

  • learn to read music and you wont need tabs

  • Not necessarily. You still need to be good at listening for certain notes and patterns.

  • Expert is debatable...

  • god the tone of this strat sucks

  • FAIL ! LOL

  • What a knob

  • It's harder than it looks especially if you have short fat piggy fingers like me.

    .

I feel cheated. The video cut off just when it was about to get interesting.

  • malsteem sucks

  • @gcgigolo08 dude yngwie malmsteen is freakin amazing, you can't talk unless you can do the arrpegios he does

  • @gcgigolo08 He can suck on mine anytime he wants as long as he pays. :)

  • God that's badass

  • Well what is the purpose of the scales ? major - minor natural - harmonic - melodic ?

  • @realjuvelive The scales define what notes you have to use to stay in key. For instance, the A natural minor is A B C D E F G and then back to A. That means you can't use any chords that have sharp or flat notes. So if you were going to play a B chord you'd have to do a diminished triad, B D F. You could also play a C major chord, C E G. That's basically what scales are for.

  • really, i know u all think that strats are sooo nice but i got one and its not that good as u say...

believe me, the esp sv standard is the best guitar for metal you can buy for money. ;)

  • @theindians190 if you willing to spend the 1500$ to get it the jackson phil demmel signature kind or the rr24 also known as the jackson alexi signature both have emgs lock frt 0200 floyd rose and wicked fast necks

  • @theindians190 thats because the standard stratocaster doesn't have humbuckers, put em in and strats are godly awesome. I have an American Standard, i Must say that its better than any ESP i've Played.

  • strats are perfectly fine for metal. You just have to set them up right e.g. right amp and maybe the right pedal. But then again thats what you have to do to any other guitar anyway.

  • Ibanez is for soloing and metal

  • @TheBlackmetalhead Dave Murray of Iron Maiden who are a really great influential metal band plays a strat. Kill yourself.

  • @SegaMaiden lol damn dude you got my ass he does and he finger taps like crazy okay good comment

  • @TheBlackmetalhead Yeah, well i had a fucked up day, sorry for that "kill yourself" :D

  • @SegaMaiden alright bro keep rockin :)

  • @TheBlackmetalhead Will do man, likewise :D

  • @TheBlackmetalhead you do realize that only the RG, S and Darkstone series are for metal? they sell a wide variety of guitars

  • @TheBlackmetalhead i say you can do soloing and metal with any guitar

  • strat is variaty for every kind of genre

  • @rodel217

I Know what you meant but i have a bc rich strat and it is for metal mainly

  • 1:24 And thrrrrrrrffffffffffffffffuuuuuuhhh 8th fret A string HAHA

  • i love how for the subtitles they can't spell yngwie malmsteen so they just put hard rock

  • should put some tabs

  • @Kav2990 but then that will go against the expertvillage code of actually being helpful lol

  • @Kav2990 Its expert village....they have none

  • you're sick dude. nice vid

  • fuck fender ibanez washburn and jackson all tthe way!!!!!!!!!

  • those are only good for metal the strat is a good guitar for a lot of different types of music they use it in studios all the time

  • i know but the harmonic minor scale is most commonly used in metal. therefore fender would not be the best choice for playing a metal scale.

  • iron maiden is one of the greatest metal bands of all time and they use strats a lot so saying it's not a metal guitar is kinda stupid

  • and yngwie does too whatever

  • exactly and he is a metal guitarist icon well at least in my eyes he is

  • not true! its not important what kind of guitar brand you're using! the sound is mostly coming form the humbuckers and the amp, throw on a good metal humbucker on a fender and it will sound amazing(did this myself)!

  • umm yngwie plays strats exclusively

  • stratocaster is the best guitar ever made it does it all and plays everything

  • @1ManArmyOfDisease unless you want versatility, in which case, Fuck washburn and at least think twice about Ibanez. Fender gets anything with the right setup, washburn can never do that, and Ibanez is able to, but its sub-par.

  • @hillbillygenius72 you can go fuck yourself, if you think fender has a good speedy thin neck like Ibanez does.

  • You're an idiot if you're judging a whole company based on a few similar models.

  • Comment removed

  • 2:04 xDD look at his face :DDDD

  • i use a japan made spuire from like 85 when squires were good with a floyd rose and emgs

  • Very good sound and great playing.

  • I totally love this scale!

    Nice Tutorial :D

  • sloppy

  • Yeah its kinda sloppy, but i think kudos for making a guitar lesson channel and teaching people how to teach themselves.

  • totally agree

  • Good info. Thanks.

  • skills ...and thats a sexy strat ...almost sexyier than that tasty lick you just laid down

  • hey for those bashing that stratocaster

    first look at the pickups...

  • @Gunnerluigi and the fact that both iron maiden and yngwie use strats, and i've seen marduk use a telecastor

  • @bfarrellmcbeth ... dont forget about Exodus.

  • Looks like stock pickups to me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @iOGarou they are dimarzio humbuckers

  • he's in standard E?

  • even dough he's using the famous Yngwie's scale doesnt sonunds as great as him haha also i dont like his guitar set and he kinda sucks using harmonic minor... but nice

  • ive never seen a strat sed for metal, its more of rock and blues guitar

  • who the hell told you that? Judas priest uses them, JOhn 5 when he was mason uses them, and he still uses it when he is with rob zombie. I think you let people judge your way too much. Honestly if a guitar sounds good it sounds good. Period.

  • Agree'd I don't like strat's personally, but a lot of great guitar players use them, so no point in bashing them. Its all a part of music, if you like music.. stfu and quit bitching about it people :)

  • iron maiden one of the guitar p[layers use a strat
