This recording is magnificent, the opening of the Introitus is perfect, from the very first note that is so fragile and desolate that it almost threatens to not speak at all. I think this is precisely what Mozart had in mind.
Too slow and the soprano is too modern. Love the kyrie double fugue. Best double fugue ever written. Only mozart could have developed it into that awesome climax.
So the tempo markings were not Mozart's either? The Adagio seems more like a Largo here, and the Kyrie is in the slowest Allegro I have ever heard. It's so hard to listen to at this unbearably lethargic pace. Otherwise the recording is very interesting.
Damn, for some reason I always loved how well the timpani was used in the Dies irae, kinda bummed to find out that Mozart didn't even write the part in.

Sounds like a kind of "reverse chipmunks" version - like you took a '78 record and slowed it down to 33 rpm!! ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz.
