I've lived in japan for 5, and I've found them to be nothing worse than friendly, smiling people.

I have no idea which part of japan you live in, but I live in one of the major cities.

There are certainly cultural differences, but frankly, I do NOT miss the MacDonalds "cafes" that exist everywhere else.

Japan, while commercial, is far more human than, for example, the USA where people are simply simply things that vote.

Japanese and Chinese are known to be shy, especially around foreigners, because they feel inferior as most of them cant speak English.

To them, Europeans, U.S., or English are the same, as long as they are white, they think they speak English and are richer and stuff.

And, to Asian, Europeans and U.S. and the rest of the English speaking world are all enthusiastic, passionate, and up front people!

So does that lessen the conflict?

In fact, Europeans are admired in Japan, I think.
