  • hello Davie, do you supply tying materials, if not would you mind telling me where you get them from, they look far superior to the ones i get sent through the post !

  • Hi eugene1334,

I'm sorry I don't sell materials, most of the materials I used in the video I dyed myself but if you are looking for good hair then try FoxyTails and for the front hackle Lakeland..If you find something and you're not sure send me a link and I'll tell you if it's good or not...

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail thanks davie, i've heard some good reviews about lakeland so will give them a go. all the best

  • hi i was just wondering if you know how to tie the toucan salmon fly? i heard this fly was catching a lot of fish last season and would be very keen to tie one but cant find a video.

  • Hi robbiemenzies,

You are about the third person that has asked me about this fly and all I have saw is a picture of a fly that's like a big black pennell but I could be wrong as there's not much or any info on it. If you can get a dressing then I would be happy to tye it for you....

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail thanks for the reply, i have just been told that in next months trout and salmon they are showing how to tie it. maybe you could post a video then? i cant find any information on it either.

    thanks,

    robbie

  • Hi Davie, could you make a video showing how to tie the Green Spey salmon fly ? I can't find any. The fly is very simple if you don't know the pattern I'll send you link with a picture of it and the materials needed.

    Many thanks,

    Nicolas

  • Hi Nicolas(StcroixNick),

Please send the link as I would be very interested in tying it as my next spey fly...ATB Davie

  • Davie,

Burnt spey hackles are hackles that have had the barbs prepared and pre separated for ease of tying. Example of this would be goose shoulder for hackles. I hope that this helps

  • Hi Davie,

Can you tell me what the difference is in Burnt Spey Hackles and ordinary ones...

I bought burnt ones to tie the Green Highlander Spey.

    Best regards,

    ~David

  • Hi David,

Burnt orange just means a dark and stronger colour that's how it gets it's name..

    All the best Davie

  • should i get a hen hackle or a rooster hackle

  • Hi theswordsman09,

Any of the two will work well with this fly..

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie

Wow That is a great looking fly. It has a great look to it and the fox is awsome looking. The shape of it is nice. The bird fur ( that is what you called it right? ) Did you dy it or did you buy it that way.

I was wondering the SLF is it like Seal Fur I havent tied with either one.

    Thanks for the Great Vids

    Chance

  • Hi Chance,

It is Bird Fur which is in the Whiting Hackle range and I did dye the one in the video hot orange it is one of the easiest colours to dye. SLF stands for Synthetic Living Fibre which is a good sub for seals fur and is easier to get I believe over your way as it's produced by Wapsi.

    All the best Davie

  • a lovely sunburst spey davie, sorry davie i couldnt make out the name of the first hackle you used, old age you see, and would gac stock them, or is it an american job, regards davey antrim, happy wrappings.

  • Hi Davey,

It's called Bird Fur, here is the description from the Whiting Website

It looks like fur, but it's really a feather! Nine plus years in development, Whiting's Spey line offers the tier an all-new economical way to use natural & long fibers to enhance large flies. Natural feathers and fur have long been preferred over synthetic substitutes for liveliness and natural movement. Now you can make your flies come alive with Whiting's Bird Fur.

    All the best Davie
