is this the most technicallty demanding Smiths song, certainly looks and sounds that way. The speed at which Johnny rips through the opening chords is crazy, its what 5 or 6 chords in the first 4 seconds?
man im getting more and more respect to Marr's playing
have you seen him play with Neil Finn covering "There is a Light that Never Goes out"? look it up here on you tube..Marr plays awesome the whole concert
Listen to R.E.M.'s 'Green' album, I think a lot of that is Ric 360/12 with some overdrive. Or look on my previous videos for "Disturbance at the Heron House / The One I Love - REM".
All your Smiths stuff is great Daniel. I've been a huge Smiths fan for 23 years and never knew how Marr did what he did. I've viewed this clip at least 20 times and I just keep going back to it. I hope the Smiths "nation" finds your clips. Please post more songs! I also like hearing about the background of how you made the clips and learned the songs. If you are an example of a "younger" Smiths fan-base, then I pleased and amazed. Great work and thanks again.
Thanks, you're very kind. When I first heard the Smiths (around the time they split up) it was like hearing what I loved about the Beatles, but faster and with better lyrics. I did the first Headmaster Ritual clip just on a whim about a month ago because I couldn't stop playing it.
I'll do that. I like hearing about people first impressions of the Smiths and see if it was like mine. I was blown-way in '84..an instant impression that left me speechless. Keep going you've only just begun!
My fingers did get a bit sore mainly because it took all day to learn. New version uploaded yesterday with bass part and verse/chorus, plus "how to play" section - see my channel.

Beautiful!! Is this a hard guitar to play at first and then gets easier? I hear the neck is thinner than normal.'
ceswert 2 years ago
Yes the thin neck can be quite cramped if you have fat fingers.
