  • Well done! Thanks for posting.

  • @speway Thank you for the Kind words ! :0)

This also led to the verb, "to MacGyver". "MacGyverism" was first used by Joanne Remmings (played by Pamela Bowen) in the third episode of Season 2.

When MacGyver introduces himself to her, she uses the term in a manner that suggests other people had used it before:

  • Great; thanks for posting.

    .

You say a ''poor man's airconditioner'', the man must be very poor because air conditioners prices start at just over a hundred dollars.

    .

Why not make your own poor man's swimming pool.

    .

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • Thanks for the video I have some ideas now

  • @johnwelch100 Your Welcome, hope it helps out with any of your projects.

  • Iv seen people use 20 oz bottles of water frozen or 2 liter bottles of water frozen instead of ice. Also think of the corrosion that the salt could cause to the aluminum. The salt will cause a cooler temp tho.

  • @gridarmorfix I think the reason salt lowers the temp and this is a guess, that it melts the ice to contact and melt more into itself, more contacting surface,im thnking melts into itself somewhat, and refreezes at some point i guess, when someone makes ice cream, you put salt into the maker, and actually it allows the ice to conform better to the container, better themal contact, again this is a guess, but i would not myself try salt, with aluminum, just my preference, thanks for stoppin in !

  • Awsome

  • @mikedsthotmail Thanks ! I appreciate that !

  • Built one of these myself but my version only lasted a couple hours. It was trying to cool a small room though, just wish I could've gotten it to work better. I'm wondering if using the pond fountain pump was introducing heat to the water as it worked, it did need to be submerged to function properly.

  • @TwistedD85PS3 Its always possible, im sure it will put some heat into it, but if your ice lasted two hours im sure it was a very hot room or maybe too much air flow through it, possible too small a cooler? the thing is one you establish a cooler temp in the room, it will not consume as much as because the cooler temps passing through , the first time is always the hardest ,the second time you do it, it doesnt use as much,,

  • @Wallabydam It's very possible there might have been too much air flow, my box was very makeshift and I was using a standing fan to push air through it, but I do believe it was on the low setting. It was pretty warm though, around 95 in the room and for a 'small' room it's kinda big I suppose. Ah well, half the fun is experimenting.

  • @TwistedD85PS3 Possible, and yuor absolutely right, if it was that easy to make something work, there would be no fun in it, experimenting is always cool..

  • Cooler = $30.00

    Fan =20.00

    pump =30.00

    trans. cooler = 40.00

    wood, piping etc. = 20.00

    ice =20.00

=130.00 (not to mention replacing ice every hour @ 20.00/hour

5 hours or cooling = 230 (plus it doesn't remove humidity)

Small window AC unit @ Wal Mart. = 100.00 (never needs ice)

  • @chefjimmie1 you are way off on prices , you goin to be able to plug that $100 walmart AC into a 12 volt plug? let me guess, tote a 6000 watt generator with you as well, your forgetting this was just a fun project to do, it was just a See how good it would work and etc, thing, like tryin to start a fire with two sticks, cooler was free, the Trans cooler i had for near 20 years and that was free back when i got it, the wood, Free scraps, the pump and fan i did buy, $10 fan $3tubing $15pump.

  • Add salt to your water to make it at least 15* cooler. It's well worth it.

  • @wolvee123 Thanks for the tip. someone else said that as well on here but i keep asking, will it make the ice melt much faster besides getting colder??? thats what im tryin to figure, to me it would be a obvious thing, to make the ice melt faster,?

  • @Wallabydam No the Ice will probably last a bit longer. Think about how you make homemade ice-cream or quick chill a can of soda (pop) the salt acts as a contact point and conducts the heat more efficiently.

  • @wolvee123 i understand what you mean, i thought the reason for that was when you add the ice in a ice cream maker, it allows the ice to melt and conform the the cylinder for maximum contact to increase the chill or cooling of it, but in this case im just using it to chill the water, i figured if you have the ice free float somewhat it would be able to allow more water to get in contact with or around more ice cubes, rather then have a block frozen, together, either way im not knockin it ! :)

  • @Wallabydam--didn't mean to sound so critical of your project but mine was nearly exactly like yours--same kind of pump, transmission cooler. I first tried this at my office in a large room about 16 x 20 filled it to the brim with ice 3 or 4 bags. Temp was about 95 degrees.(I live in Louisiana so humidity was probably about 98%) that ice lasted about 10 minutes i think. Got more ice and some blocks of dry ice pored out most of the water and piled it all in again same results 95 degrees.

  • @windsunvolts No i know what you mean, high humidity makes anything work harder to cool a place the humidity is what kills any unit and until its outta there it will always feel warmer, and make ice melt a lil faster, dry ice should have made a hug difference, in fact it should have froze your coil up most the time it will if you place 10 lbs of dry ice on top of wet ice and so on. but its just the idea that makes these neat, specially if your where ice may be available cheap, lol...

  • Awesome job, man! Quite informative :D

  • @Abdallah2319 Hey Thanks! IM looking into regeneritive energy, i know overunity if a very far fetched thing, but i like the discovery of things that have been tried by others and maybe someone will make it work one day.

This was just something to try and thought it was pretty "cool" lol...

  • I tried this and even used dry ice; all i discovered was this is the fastest way to melt ice i've ever seen! you'll be lucky if you can cool a 5 by 5 space by 2 degrees before melting $30.00 worth of ice!

  • @windsunvolts Well it all depneds on where you are using it, if your just sitting outside withit next to ya then sure, there is a lof of variences Temp being one, humidity, how good the room or whatever it is your usingis insulated, im curious how was you able to use the dry ice, everyone has a different way to use it, way i look at it, is If you cannot take air conditioning with you, if your not close to a generator or power outlet, it may be worth the $ to keep cool depending on where you are

  • Comment removed

  • I think the air conditioner is one of the best inventions ever!

  • @Cyprus883 I AGREE 1000% on that!

  • To let you know for water to be as good as refrigerant the water needs to be 45F and under.

  • @67tr876 Well you might not believe this, and it may confuse a lot of you out there, but the water temp in the cooler is 25 degrees, But, funny thing is, you would think if its 25 degrees F that it would try and freeze itself,.. But anyway the water temp with the ice is 25 degrees, last i checked when i ran it,.

  • the Fan on the back Pushes the warm air through the front coil, pulls air from the back pushing air into the box and through the coil equally through whole coil. to get even flow, thanks for watching!

  • excellent video and great idea !! but i have a question i saw the front panel and on back i saw the fan but i never saw how do you separate and how do you circulate beam cold air and hot air if that area is enclosed (the fan need to take hot air and push it cross the panel to be cooled)

  • Bet 2-3 heater cores back to back would work good too and since its 12 volt could I use some solar panels to power it and run the wires and panels outside

  • @fackyoutoobe2 Thats right, it could work that was as well, if i had the panels, id definetly try that, if i ever make enough money to fund that im definitly buying a few of those ..

  • You can make free bottled water with the drip-off line, free water, better tasting too.

  • @MegaCophater It would be a interesting wat to get yourself water while your out camping, as long as the coil is clean, the water running off it should be ok, as long as the air blowing through it is not contaminated with anything that could be blowing it right back into your water, because any water catches dirt and airbourne items like glue :) good idea tho!

  • @Wallabydam Use tent mesh as a high flow filter as it will keep most garbage out, and criss-cross them if it will be used in dusty spots.

  • @MegaCophater that sounds like a great idea,

  • @Wallabydam No problem, tag me in your next video! Maybe soaking it might help some too.

  • Pure awesome

  • @tigerstorms Thank you!! Really appreicate the Kind words! :)

  • Also wondering if you used a slower pump would the ice last longer? You said the pump is 1k gal per hr. could a smaller pond pump/ garden fountain pump work better or worse?

  • Hey coulnd't you put you drip line into the cooler? I would think it would take awhile, before you had to drain any water. Also is the I noticed in your second vid, some black mark on the top of the cooler. is that mold? Did the a/c cause this?

  • @agdtec Sure you could put the drip back into the cooler, but its going to make the ice melt faster because its warmer then the ice water inside, so to make ice last a lil longer oi opted outside, Yes a pond pump would work as well,. but i could not find anything 12 voilt in my area, under $15.. As far as slowing water down, yes it May help, but then again the hot air passing through will warm the water up alot more, and may make it melt just as fast if it was moving faster, i think anyway.

  • @agdtec by the way, you mentioner MOLD under the lid when i had it open, i dont see nothing of what you see, only thing that Might look like that is the black spray paint mist that is on the bottom part of the lid and some of the top, only way for mold to grow is if you leave it shut, and have water in it moisture, water too cold for it to mold, would take couple weeks out in the sun to even start after having ice in it.

  • hello from Puerto Rico. if you are using 12v already, why don't you try and use a 12v car blower?. my theory is that i should give you more air flow than this fan, you can control it using a 12v potentiometer or the same car ac blower switch, probably you should have to fit it sideways because of the impeller shape but then again its made for that and still 12 volts...

  • @elbobillo Hello! Well when i built this, it was thought out, i had that planned to use a auto fan, but it consumes too much amps from my portable battery, I wanted to use something cheap and consumed low amps for longer run time was the idea, if i used a auto fan , it would pass a lot of air, maybe too much and my ice would not last long, and possibly not cool as good, because the passing air did not have long enough time to ( cool ) But im with you on the idea, just did not use one.

  • well I am in HVAC and your unit is woking good a high end AC will only do 20 degrees difference hats off to you I think I will make it better and use an alcohol mixture it works for geothermial

  • @damienbaynham Well thats Awesome news, Yeah i had thought about Alcohol mixture and using dry ice on a closed system and vent the CO outside of whatever this is placed in, only thing im scared of is Frozen Evap on this, moisture freezing, but i could use a stronger fan to help keep it from freezing, number two problem is finding a pump that will survive being that cold and one that is alcohol friendly,.

  • @Wallabydam well if you are going to use dry ice freezing up could be a problem I would try to take the top liquid as your in take and if you are going to use alcohol use cheap vodka not wood alcohol it is a dangerous to use I know and seeding up the fan will work but all so control the flow will help if you want more information look up subcooling it will help with temperatures

  • @damienbaynham funny you mention that i been reading up on Super heat and sub cooling, the reason i did not want to use a Alcohol like Vodka was because some of the stuff is more money then a $1 of 91% from walmart, i would not use Denatured alcohol, i was thinking of rubbing alcohol, You gotta admit though if its hot enough outside, the hot air blowing through will not allow it to freeze up but hell thats a guess you know, and still yet i need to find a alcohol pump friendly pump.

  • Fukn Sweet... Redneck Engineering at its finest! i was just watching a few of these and this is just a spectacular peice of craftsmanship! Well done man... well done!! A+

  • @woodburyadpost Appreciate it! Maybe a good coat of paint and a grill in front would make it look nice! lol again thanks!

  • I think its great! good for home or vehicle!

  • @thehappyinfidel2011 Thank you ! would like to use it for something like camping, would be nice! :) Like this video, please click one of the linkes in it, Thanky ou again so very much !

  • Very clever...thanks for sharing...you have an aptitude for inventing.

  • @trailriding1 Thank You very much!@ I try hard at all things, and this was one of the, one day if i get enough people to click the advertisements on my video i may be able to suceed with other projects im trying, Thanks for the kind Words much appreaciate it!

  • think you did a great job! best redneck cooler I seen yet, and you could make it look real cool if you painted it up. You did a good job on the building the box for it. i wish i had the stuff to make that.

  • @MrJlo87 I really appreciate the kind words, if i get enough people to click on my advertisment ads i can afford to buy the paint and i will paint it for sure, i agree with ya on that 100%, i tried to do my best and it takes a lil time im working on tryin to upgrade the system for a alcohol and dry ice useage, i hope it works really good when i get done, do like i did scavenge around and youtube have plenty of ideas on it in videos, just takes some time is all. :)

  • what is the metal system called that you have the water pump running thru.

  • @XxcodxXDeAdman That is what i call a Coil. water runs through that to dissapate the heat and also chill the water a little further before it goes through the exchanger as i call it.,,

  • dude do list with ebay, ill bid

  • @genshrek i dont think i could ebay it, i would prbably sell it outright to someone if they wanted to buy it, but then again Ebay might not be bad, either, lol...

  • The best of these cold water AC units I've seen.

  • @JustSeanTime Thanks JustSeantime I really appreciate the good words, i will try better next time, If Anyone doesnt mind please feel free to click on the ad on my video, lots good info and stuff on there, :)

  • that's a pretty good drop in temperature

  • @MvnBkwrd OK Good, because i was told most home systems have about a 20 degree drop on a good system, but just wasnt sure, more people tell me the better it sounds! :)

  • I plan on making one next month when i get the chance. However, im thinking of making a metal box for the pump and filling it with some very cheap vodka. Then ill fill the cooler with a coil pattern, then fill up the cooler. Possibly thinking of usingdry ice around the coils somehow. Just dont want it to evap when the ice starts to slowely melt.

I figure the vodka will get a lot colder than just water, also it would save your ice and allow you to run cooler for longer.

  • @bluedavenger Welli wanted to do a Closed system where the water or alcohole would stay within the line and just be circulated, what works far better and is cheaper then cheap vodka is 91 percent rubbing alcohol, problem with both is that the aocohol in either one will evap eventually, you can use Dry ice, just make sure you VENT IT outside, and you can use WET ICE on top of that dry ice, it will re freeze and last a lot longer, when ya get it together send a vid, love to see it !

  • what would hapend you would use a jet blower fan on a redneak ac

  • @alienhddna not sure what you mean by jet fan, are you taking about a home furnace fan? if you use a larger fan, you can cool a room faster, but it will consume more ice, faster, its like a car with big engine, bigger engine more gas it consumes per tank, too much air moving through will not give it enough time to cool the air properly as well and not give it enough time to remove the moisture from it, any moisture also will be blown into the room if its too powerful.

  • MacGyver something together EPIC! xD

  • @specnaz157 :) i know original huh lol..

  • how cold does it get the room

  • @alienhddna i never tried it on a room, im not sure but im sure if you have enough ice , you can cool a 10x10 room with it, but it really depends on many factors, humidity, how hot the room is, also items in the room more ( hot ) items in a room take longer to cool it because they hold the heat, and also how well insulated the room is, no drafts and etc,

  • you have a lot of stuff lying around. anyway nice job.

  • @brandonhughes7 you should see inside my garage...

  • I live in Malta europe and the humidity is never below 50 %, will be trying your design. excellent project. thanks

  • @fisioserv Thank you !, there are other ice chest coolers out there that just blow over ice, and some you have frozen bottles of water, but this does a much better job of removing the moisture out of the air, resulting in a drier more comfortable "Conditioned" air, you can always have the swamp coolers in a dry place where moisture is needed, i live in a high humidity state ( over 68% ) most of the summer, and it worked great, cooling the air to 50 degrees F..

  • Good job mate.

  • @worktosser Thanks You, Appreciate the Compliment !

  • What kind of radiator is this?

    The fan & pump watt?

  • my homemade camper is basically a boat trail. i welded angle iron on each corners plywood is bolted to frame and to angle iron. flat bar is bolted on on ply seams. idont know regular ac unit would to much. this was a budget project . i was going to make youtube video but not so good at computer stuff

  • bad ass i made one using fan and copper tubing. this much better i would like to mack one like this for my homemade camper. i wonder if you could install a ice maker from a freezer

  • @robertallen80 Thanks ! Well i think if you was to install a ice maker from a freezer, then you might as well have a regular air conditioner, because you would still have to use AC current, i think they all works great, im not a big fan on swamp coolers becauwe they put humidity into the air, and in order to feel much cooler you want that moisture out of the air, so you feel drier. you tryin to figrue a way to replenish the ice while in use?

  • Awesome. You gave it a tough test.

Had you vented the truck as a driver would have time to do in a real situation, your performance would likely drive the temperature below 85 degrees!

  • @chiefbigwig1 After i did the test, i thought about that, Also If i had been driving along, the air passing over the Truck Cap on the back would have helped take some of the heat out of the fiberglass by cooling it also, Also something i did not mention , it was a very humid day im goin to guess a 70 % humidity day, there was a lot of condensation running out of the catch tube, I should be putting another video of it working showing temps coming from it soon. Thanks for droppin by watching !

  • Nice job bud

  • @AnteICash Thank You! and for taking time to stop by and watch!

  • Put liquid nitrogen instead of ice

  • @xxMoDiFyx LOL>. Well i dont think thats very practicle. dangerous stuff, and hard to get, permits to have it, at least around here,. cant say that didnt cross my mind, hah...

  • @xxMoDiFyx Only downside is liquid nitrogen quickly becomes nitrogen gas which is much larger in volume than the liquid, it'd probably cause the lid to pop open every once in a while.

  • @twisteddragon85 very true i have a question i have a small room and it haves ac but 4 some reason it doesnt work very good do you think this would work? is this a type of swamp cooler? thanks

  • @xxMoDiFyx I think swamp coolers work by blowing air over something that's wet or damp, so I don't think it's technically a swamp cooler. I'm actually about to make one of these for the very same reason so we'll have to see, but considering Wallabydam had it in his truck, an uninsulated (I believe) camper top no less and it functioned like it did I'm hoping for the best :)

  • @twisteddragon85 yea i love this one its by far the best on youtube i going to try this build

  • best on you tube

  • @Mr3wheeledbike All i can say is thank you very much ! really think so? i honestly have not gone about looking on whats on youtube, i think i should start tho and see , Thank you again for the generous compliment !

  • One thing you might add is some wicks or something coming out from the cooler unit to draw the condensation in front of the air stream. The phase change from liquid to gas as it evaporates draws a lot of heat energy, which would add to the cooling effect, I think. That's how true swamp coolers work.

  • @LebanonLDR I gave it some thought, But think about it, Weather In winter time, on cloudy nights moisture is prominent (sp?) and on a Clear winter night, the temp drops Far more because moisture is not as much, I was told that moisture in the air makes it harder to cool a room, if you think about it, Moiture will always make you feel hotter or warmer, 90degree low humidity temp feels cooler 90degrees with 60 percent humidity, in HVAC world lots of moisture makes a system work harder..

  • Excellent video! I would recommend you not use dry ice in this application. Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide and when it sublimates (melts) it changes to a gas and fairly quick. You certainly don't want CO2 in your home. Keep the videos coming! I like that you took on the challenge and did not let the lack of information from your friend hold you back.

  • @az123066 I appreciate the comment, and insite as well, im way ahead of ya on the dry ice thing as far as the CO gas it gives off, thus why id put a venting tube that would be put outside of whatever dwelling, so i would definetly vent it if i did use Dry ice, but it would freeze the wet ice rather well, and i would NOT have the water return run over the dry ice, i would have it submerged below under wet ice, again Thank you for the kind words!

  • 104 to 80 degrees is a pretty big difference within 30 minutes, it may not be the fastest but it's almost as fast as a regular air conditioner :)

  • @MrTpengineer Thats Awesome to know MrT Because i had no idea what so ever! Thanks!

  • @Wallabydam Welcome :) I'm working on one similare but it's going to use a refrigerator coil and a smaller cooler, I just need to find a pump and tubing small enough for the coil thoe, it's about a quarter of a centimeter lol.

  • @MrTpengineer thats pretty small tubing for sure, you coule maybe use a small 12 volt pond pump or sorts maybe,

  • @Wallabydam I do have a pond pump i'll probebly try that.

  • Nice work man, American ingenuity at work!

  • @MoralDelima Thank you ! I appreciate the kind word!

  • awsome im going to try it

  • @sporing13 let me know the end results you get on yours, Thanks for viewing!

  • with HVAC you want idealy 32 degrees of superheat, so from 104 to 80something is pretty good for just ice water being pumped through a radiator (in essence), nice setup man

  • @jeeper426 Thanks for the info Jeeper~! i really had no idea man, i was thinking about making it a closed system using Winshield washer fluid, then covering it with Ice, and a 11 lb block of Dry ice to freeze the wet ice, Washer fluid would just help in aiding to keep from totally freezing somewhat, cheaper then antifreeze too.. Thanks for the news man, i appreicate that. !

  • @Wallabydam no problem man, yeah, a closed system might yield ya' some colder air, always worth a shot, keep on truckin' man

  • simple Russian idea: youtube.com/watch?v=KeOvGJczVEI

  • @vbhevbh1 cant quite make out the link you posted,

  • Comment removed

  • @Wallabydam tipe first: h-t-t-p-:-/-/-w-w-w without "-" and than:.youtube.com/watch?v=KeOvGJczVEI

  • Great video. You are thinking outside the box and put your idea inside a box. Keep up the good work.

  • @livingonsolar I appreciate that, im sure in a very hot humid day this would not be practical, but if your in a very small place, and dont mind using the ice, then its ok, if your out camping but near a place that sells ice, OR better yet, use the ice from a motel ice maker, usually free. if i try it again im goin to make a closed system so i can use dry ice and wet ice, dry ice will free the wet ice for a very long time, and make huge difference, just have to vent the gases outside. Thanks!

  • My version is water based and I have a copper coil at the back and the fan is at the front, so the air is pulled though the coils. I add the water bottles to the water.

I could make it better by warpping coils around the bottom of the cooler in the water and added better copper wire, mine is not wrapped that good as is too think I think.

Do you think adding coolent to the water would help with the cooling ?

    Thanks for the video.

    Out.

  • @paulpm1974 coolent? or antifreeze doesnt lower the temp, straight water in a car radiator transfered heat the best, Antifreeze or coolent, has glycol and other chemicals in it to try and help from corrosion and boiling, they recommend50 50 mix because water helps suspend those chemicals in the liquid , so they dont settle. i was told if you added some Salt to ice it would drop the colling effect a greaqt deal, like when making ice cream, add salt to the ice and it drops a lot in temp to make

  • @paulpm1974 to continue, so when it got colder outside to keep the water from freezing you used more coolent, because one it doesnt transfer well holds heat better then it can take heat away, thats why they always tell you not to use more then you have to in summer, it will actually make a engine run a lil hotter, but im sure i will hear something about this , someone saying thats not true and so on, so if you fump ice in and put some salt over the ice, it makes it colder.

  • You my friend are one smart Redneck :)

Been wanting to make one of these for ages properly, I just knocke done up like all the other stupid rednecks :(

    Out.

  • @paulpm1974 lol thanks i think? Well i like to think of it as maybe Hilljack technology, i normally dont Hilljack anything up or redneck anything, but it just was a fun thing to do at the time, i guess it was a McGyver moment in my life, :D lol..

  • 30-40 degree difference - is what you should get if you are using compression ( hi pressure ) - in a completely closed system - with chemicals ( freon ) - such as a car system

Considering you were basically using no pressure - no chemicals - and if your camper shell was not absolutely airtight - I think it did great @ a 20 degree difference

  • @hesellsmystuff well thats good to know!,, i have a vid of it at the condenser blowing 50F indoors, room temp was around 78F my truck blows 50F and no colder but i never knew what the numbers were for temp diff thqat they should normally run and you answered it, appreciate the info!

  • man, i like this so much i made two for my fishin cabin, only thing i changed was i used some old copper tubing i had form HVAC days and made more coils in ice box,i used a closed system with glychol(anti-freeze) with a conditioner in it. an alum radiator from a toyota and put block ice in cooler with two table spoons rock salt i can push 61 degree air puts my cabin down to the 70's...oh also used reostat on fan to slow air down if i want, great design thanks for posting has made my sum

  • @thmedic13th Sounds Awesome, i originally wanted to make a closed system using antifreeze, and use Dry Ice over top of some wet ice, but i was in a hurry, so i just did this way, i have some other vids that i have no posted, i looked and when i checked this one, it was pushing out 50 Degree air at the coil. so its still not too bad, Thanks for the comments, sounds like you made a hell of a nice one,.!

  • man, i like this so much i made two for my fishin cabin, only thing i changed was i used some old copper tubing i had form HVAC days and made more coils in ice box,i used a closed system with glychol(anti-freeze) with a conditioner in it. an alum radiator from a toyota and put block ice in cooler with two table spoons rock salt i can push 61 degree air puts my cabin down to the 70's...oh also used reostat on fan to slow air down if i want, great design thanks for posting has made my summer lots

  • you can upload the list of parts for this proyect buddy??? i wanna try it ... this country its so hot (chihuahua, mexico) ... its a dessert!! : S

  • wwooooowwwww!!!!!! Great idea man... very well

  • @macflaller Thank you very much :)

  • This is probably the best made I have ever seen one of these. A different fan with a shroud would probably give slightly better results, but I'm blown away (no pun intended, ha) by the craftsmanship you put into this. great job :)

  • @furmedia Thanks! I agree with you about the fan, but you have to remember one thing, the more the air goin through the less time it has to pick up the cold temp passing through the coil. the fan was just something cheap and needed to be 12 V, i had other fans but like i said this was just something "quick" and kinda last minute, i could have done a better job on this, adding a coil cover, staining the wood like i wanted to, and painting the cooler, a better color,, Im glad you like it !

  • Am making a real AC home made unit. It will be 12000 to 14000 btu and cool water to pump to an air handler.

  • It would be better to use refrigerant gas, insted of ice cubes all the time.

  • @WICKEDSLAYER777 well then you would just have a regular air conditioner, that requires a pump, freon, oil, AC voltage, if i could find a 12 volt AC unit i would not have bothered making this , but this was just for fun, just stuff had laying around and i spent like maybe $40 If that, im not ruling out the use of DRY ICE and making a vent tube for the gas to exit outside of where ever this may be used,.

  • @Wallabydam why would you need a vent tube for dry ice? I was thinking of using that as well. Would it be fine if I just put dry ice in my cooler just like regular ice in my home made ac unit?

  • @roblox84 Dry ice is Compressed Carbon Dioxide Gas, thus why it is so cold -109 F, and if you put it in anything sealed it will build up pressure and blow up, like if you stuckj some in water that was in a bottle and closed it, it would build up pressure till it bursts, AND Second, you dould die from the gas if you are in a enclosed room, it would replace all air you breathe and put you into a Infinate sleep for good. thats why when you buy dry ice, you have to have a window open to vent

  • @Wallabydam when travelling you must have a window open in your car or truck unless its in the back of the truck when it has plenty of air leaks, to vent, so a VAPOR vent would be the idea,to 1 allow the evaporation of gas to vent out, and 2 to not allow build of of any pressure that might or cause a burst or explosion, although most coolers would just allow the gas to push the lid open to puff out, and not all are 100 % sealed, but trust me, 40lbs lasted me 9 days when i took it beach trip

  • @Wallabydam oh by the way if your making a unit that just blows air past dry ice, forget about making it, because it will and can kill you in a enclosed area, if your using it in something like the one i made, in a water circular trype system, you use can dry ice on TOP of the wet ice, to keep it from melting, and still circulate water as long as its not actually hitting the dry ice otherwise it will make the dry ice last all but a very short time,

  • @Wallabydam well that's good to know because maybe i wouldnt have waken up one day. Maybe liquid nitrogen would be a better choice

  • @Wallabydam LIquid Nitrogen is a bit out there for some cool air, but you get a drop oir that on you, its goin to burn for a good long while, and could cause a bad infection and trip to the hospital for possible vien (SP?) damage, im still looking for a 12Volt AC unit, i heard china has some, and i know you can make a AC unit with AMmonia, using a flame, like the RVs use, complex system but it does not use a compressor of any sort,

  • I would say that is a pretty good job for just putting that together from spare parts. You one of them fellas from the A- team?

  • @mrwiggles2 lol, i just bought the pump and the fan, gonna try and post video soon as i can with it working, would like to get a better fan for it, lol A team,

  • Best one Ive seen yet!

  • @The1PublicEnemy Thanks, i appreciate the comment, sometime soon when i can walk again ( broke my leg ) i can make a video of it running, and let everyone be the judge of it. Hope you enjoyed!

  • can u make a video of it running

  • @MrYesbam im sorry it took this long to respond to you, but i will this year in the next few month make a vid of it running, :)

  • Actually it will lover the melting point. I know on the surface it sounds weird, but that IS the science. I freeze all my ice containers with some salt.

  • Add some salt to the ice, it will lower the melting point of the ice.

  • @MrBeau16 Wont that melt the ice a lil faster as well? i was thinking of a way to use dry ice in some way for ourdoor use ontop of the Wet ice,

  • i always knew you was a mad scientist . lol

    im digging the ingenuity :)

thats a big temp drop in a hot camper shell .

  • @500passwords you think thats a big drop in temp? i actually never knew what a normal difference would be and etc, with a alotted time, but i cant expect much for ice in a cooler,.! lol;.

  • @Wallabydam

for your first attempt thats a pretty big drop :)

means your theory is sound anyway .

  • Does actually look pretty proffesional. Awesome job man.

I have a feeling I might need A/C this summer, its been upt 28C up here in Scotland, and we dont even get that in full summer! So we'll see. If it does I might have to commision you to make me one too! ;)

  • @CSAKvids lol.. well if you have lots of ice to dispose of, or you can freeze your own custome size block Ice, then i dont see a problem in doin so !
