  • luv it! thanks for showing how to do it with flavor!

  • good. loove it

  • I love the suspended arpeggios of doom at 1:10! There are some great quartal and pentatonic things in some other spots as well. It sounds like you think of yourself as post-bop rather than bebop.

  • @Modes9 Thanks, yes post-bop.

  • thanks i love this

    merci

  • bravo bravo

have you done wave and sad by jobim

  • I noticed you tend to only use your index, middle, and ring finger when soloing in your right hand, is this a much easier way to enhance technique?

Wonderful phrasing! I always thought that 7notemode has the advanced harmonies, jazz2511 has the academic skills to teach, and you have the impeccable gift of phrasing, melodic invention! It would be a dream of mine and I'm sure countless others on youtube if all three of you got together for a concert and posted it on Youtube!

  • @1979saxman Thanks so much for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. My fingering technique is a result of my being self-taught and never studying classical piano. It does limit me to some extent, but then again, it is what probably helps in giving me my own sound.

I would love to travel to Australia for a get together with Jazz2511!

  • Wow--thanks!

  • outstanding!

  • @JRNL75 Thank you!

  • Wow, awesome improvisation!

  • tyner style

  • Dam that was genious XD, i can see that u really gave a personal taste to this piece, excelent improvisation... ur hands move like lightning its just unbelivable ^^, ill be playng like you in 3 + years i garantee :P

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • I havent a bloody clue what you're talking about...but the music is great!!

  • Great

  • looking at your hands it seems simple but is so difficult! Brilliant!

  • I like your chords position... do there's a daily exercice for the left hand?.... i mean something for to learn all these positions? I'm trying to list your position from all your videos but it's not easy.... could you do it?

  • sei grande....

  • I love the way you play this. I am trying learn it in small segments ... I would really appreciate if you could explain a little more what you mean at :29 - what does outlining mean?

I get it that an Eb maj 7 chord is Eb G Bb D - I just can't figure out what is going into your downward run. can you enlighten me, please :-)

  • Thanks for the comment.

    Outlining = arpeggio with embellishments..

The downward run is played using notes Eb D C Bb A G descending and repeated using fingering 321, 321, 321...

  • thank you for your help, and for sharing your tips!

  • oh my God! you're a monster!

  • Nice!!

  • Thanks Dave!

  • tecnically brilliant but why can't you guys who master the notes so well keep to the tune a bit ?? in parts it's barely recogniseable ! ! ! !

  • how much jazz do you listen to? cuz when Oscar Peterson plays he takes a lot liberties with the melody...i think Rogers embellishments are rather tasteful.

  • I appreciate the comment.

  • Ouch! I love it.

I gonna go to the piano and practise more

  • Your videos are always awesome. Some of the stuff you talk about doesn't only give insight on my piano playing but also on my main instrument. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the comment MontgomerylandFunk.

  • damn thats awesomee!! love it!!

  • I really love this song "Night and Day" and also the song "Wave". I would really like to learn to play it. Could you post these two songs with the virtual keyboard above the piano? I have learned to play a couple of your songs this way. It took me a very long time by after many painful evenings I finally did it. I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you,

    Marcelo

  • wow, wonderful improvisation and execution! really fine.

  • i wish i could play a piano.music like this makes me dream about it.

  • that was fantastic! great swing feel, hip lines, change of style at the end! Talk about a full learning/listening experience!

  • Well done!

    Greetings from Lisbon - Portugal

  • veramente fabulosa e rapida la vostra interpretazione - grazie & greetings from amsterdam

  • Dank voor uw commentaar!

    ;-)

  • This is beautiful... so the backing is from Aebersold? I would love to be able to play in this style but I find the chord changes are so fast... so atm I'm stuck on playing the Freddie Hubbard volume and the old 1976 funky David Baker (which is awesome!)... any hints of what I should do next?

  • Learn the tune in 2 or 4 bar chunks. In no time you'll have the changes down and put it all together.

  • Отново прекрасно изпълнение!

    Супер!Супер!Супер!

  • Love you. WOW

  • I always learn stuff!! thanks.

  • oh yeah baby!!!!!

    5 stars!

  • Exucese me, but in whick key, or tonality(tonalità in italian language)are you palyng the tune? on the Real Book 1 is transcipted in "C" (the tune starts with a II/V/I of "C"! On the video seems that you're playng in "Eb". Please, anser me. Anyway, you've shown a good improvisation.

    Musically, Rob

  • Hello Rob. Thank you for your comment. Yes, I am playing this in Eb.

  • What a treat - the comments help so much in understanding what you are doing. Thanks for the compliment, but your fast fluent lines are so impressive, and the text labels help us to not just see the notes you played, but also to understand the reason you played them. More please!

  • It is a very inspiring version .

Great playing The best on Tube

Furthermore I hope that one day

we can hear You replay all these standards with

live bass and drums .Waiting for such feast.

Meanwhile ... You doing an excellent job with

    annotations too. steve

  • really swinging. And those comments are a real treat!

  • Awesome man I love the half step then whole step transposing, also you kill those substitutions!

  • Thanks much for the nice comment.

  • I wish I could understand your annotations... :(

  • Wow! This is not a try this is a great lesson of jazz improvisation! Amazing Version!

  • You are becoming even more sure fingered on your new board. Your chord subs are terrific, very current, can't wait to try them. This really felt like the truest form of improvising. It felt like you didn't know what was coming next any more than I did!

  • Yep, that's me - just flying by the seat of my pants (or shorts in this case). Thanks Tom.
