Jim was such a talented and versatile actor. He could literally pull off an authentic and convincing Shakespearean dialect, and then instantly changing to a truly comical character like Ernest. The accent he gave was more effective than experienced stage actors who participate in various Shakespearean dramas. I have no doubt that he's making God laugh from his absolute comic genius. Rest In Peace, Jim Varney.
"O God! Why, she would hang on him, As if increase of appetite had grown By what it fed on." Flawless delivery of "Hamlet" The best in my opinion. I would've loved to have seen more Shakespeare from Varney. His accent is spot on. That would have been some play to see.
@edwardLRS Actually, no. I've been working on a project and I've just got all I need from the Youtube sites of Varney. That's why I've been on his sites a lot. Now that I have just about all the info from these posts, I can slow way down. Yes, I'm a huge fan but I also need these posts and other's reactions to my posts and comments made about Varney to fill in the blanks. Don't worry, I won't be quoting anyone. I'm making observations.
Jim Varney was amazing. From serious Shakespearean actor to Ernest in as stonegator says, the blink of an eye. R.I.P. Jim. You made so many people laugh and smile. I only hope you're making the Lord smile and laugh now too.
This man right here, in my opinion pleased more people in his short acting career than Michael Jackson in his whole life. RIP Mr. Varney! I grew up with your movies! Thank you soo much for the laughs!
Geez, I wish we could have heard more of the actual Hamlet monolog before he went back into "Ernest". I had no idea his ear for British dialect was so excellent. It was a real pleasure listening to him be convincingly Elizabethan.
I miss Jim Varney! He did pretty good with his Shakespeare acting. I bet he's showing it to the real William Shakespeare up in heaven and impressing him alot! R.I.P. Jim Varney 1949-2000. YOU'RE MY HERO 4 EVER!
