Hi, I am going to California and I wanted to do the Mt. Lee hike as per your directions. There are so many warnings the the entire area is under surveillance and that if someone goes under the fence and gets close to the sign then the police will be waiting at the bottom. Do you think there is any validity to that? Were you fined or arrested (or anything) by the police or security when you got back down? I'd appreciate any advice that you have. Cool video. Too bad it wasn't a clear day. Years ago, my husband and son climbed the west side of that mountain on a clear day (thanks to the Santa Ana winds) and they could see the entire San Fernando Valley and all the way to Palos Verdes. Said it was spectacular!

I was born & raised in Studio City. Me & my friends use to go up to the sign all the time back in the 90's. This was before they installed all the motion dectector rods, thermal imaging & there was no security patrol up there. After 2001 it was to much of a risk. At least I have over a hundred pictures & lot's of video to prove me & my friends were up there.

I went there with my nephews in '06, and a helicopter hovered over us twice, thank goodness we weren't arrested or something. I have my own video of me touching the sign. I have always adored the sign since I was a kid. By the way, Ke#ha and her friends are idiots, and ruin it for everybody.

Way to go man. Me and my 12 year old brother hiked down that trail to touch the sign a few months ago and a helicopter did in fact come hovering over the sign approximately 15 minutes after we were back on the pavement road.
