Dino had such a rich, smooth vibrato, so sweet in the upper register as he crooned his casual way thru a melody, immediately putting any listener at ease. This was a class guy, cool, confident, laid back, understated, witty, & wise. Perry Como was perhaps a better singer overall, but Dino had reserves of style, wit & personality that the more formal "Mr. C" never displayed. Both were the best in easy listening musical entertainment in a television age when talent mattered. I miss those days.

This guy died in the worst way possible, lung cancer combined with empheysema meaning he slowly drowned and suffocated over a period of years. Try holding your breath as long as you can until you almost pass out, then getting just a little bit of air just enough to keep you alive, then imagine going through that 24 hours a day, every day for years. And people complain about smoking bans. I use to work in a hospital watching people die from that shit, and I tell you, I couldn't quit fast enough.

I seen him in Las vegas it was one of the last proformances, you could thell he did not want to be there. i am thinking it was at the old Dunes hotel i could be wrong. but you could tell he just wanted the show to end. i am thinking this was around 1990. he was a very gifted man that the world loved. we all miss him today

@carlmonico Ya, I have noticed this too. By 1974, I think Dean was kinda tired of doing a weekly Variety Show. He had been on NBC for 9 years. He really earned a rest. The Celebrity Roasts came into play after the Variety Show, so he didn't have to sing at all. That's what I missed during the roasts though! Deans singing was the "BEST" part of the Variety Shows! :)

Yes, I can remember when his albums were $3.95 and I would take my weekly allowance, save up for a month or so, and go buy his latest. I was just 10 and thought he was so sexy, and had a voice like velvet. I now buy Dino's CD's for way more money, but I had 40 LP's, and I am well on my way to 40 CD's. I'll keep buying them as long as they are available.
