Guardian, you are right about that eye in the skull. I'd have to double check my photos but it seems like the other eye socket was covered by a patch.

@widenyourworld I can remember the skull having 2 eyes in the sockets and then years later having an eyepatch covering the other one.

Maybe my imagination is playing tricks but as a little kid back in the 80's I remember being totally freaked out by that talking skull because at one time (I could swear) it used to have an eyeball in the skull that looked at the people in the boats as it went by. Maybe not.

One improvement that the new version has is better audio when the ship is firing on the fort. The old version had cannons that sounded like steam escaping while the new version has an almost deafening roar of cannon fire. As far as the rest, to each his own.

idk, I really do enjoy the new characters in the ride; I personally think they fit rather well. the only part about the overhaul that I HATE is the removing of the talking skull before the waterfall... that was always one of my favorite parts!!

anyway, I do think that the story of the ride is much better now than before and it also has a much broader audience appeal, which helps the old characters as well as the new.

I remember the old version and actually avoided going to ride this ride for a long time before the redo with Jack Sparrow. Now I sorta miss the old version and it seems weird without the talking skull. They should have kept that.

I'd rather see a too-dark video of the superior version than a perfect video of the current version. Who honestly thought one Jack Sparrow and one parrot was better than the opulence of Marc Davis' original finale?  Thank you for posting this!!!
