Yes Islam is the state religion, but all the decisions made by the govt. regarding public policies, economy, finance, law and order strictly follows the British penal code. We are still a very young country. We have many many problems like natural cyclones. flood, corruption, illiteracy (but its now a lot better), and of course the population growth. Bangladesh is the 8th largest population in the world (huge if you take its land size) so the GDP growth that we experience (positive 2 yearly) is not big enough to feed such a huge crowd. Its like a small pizza divided up into 100 people. each portion will be minuscule. But we will get there.

The decisions made by the govt. is not influenced by any religion. Yes Islam is the state religion, but all the decisions made by the govt. regarding public policies, economy, finance, law and order strictly follows the British penal code. Our constitution is very much like the Indian one. India's state religion is Hinduism but the decisions reached by govt is not based on any religion making it a secular state. We have the same.

At that time there was EPR (East Pakistan Rifles) and they helped Indians. First they crossed the border, went to India and then under shield of Indian Merceneries and Army reentered into East Pakistan and fought the war of independance.
Frankly speaking EPR the Bengalies worked as a GUIDE to Indian Army and Indian Army won the war and made Bangldesh. If India would not have helped , the formation of Bangladesh was impossible.

We are still a very young country. We have many many problems like natural cyclones. flood, corruption, illiteracy (but its now a lot better), and of course the population growth. Bangladesh is the 8th largest population in the world (huge if you take its land size) so the GDP growth that we experience (positive 2 yearly) is not big enough to feed such a huge crowd. Its like a small pizza divided up into 100 people. each portion will be minuscule. But we will get there.

Its not only corruption but also a lot of other things that are truly responsible for the lack of prosperity. One of the major ones are natural disasters. Bangladesh remains under water 4 months every year during which there is no growth in anything. Because Bangladesh is an agriculture driven country 4 months with no growth is very devastating. Corruption is another.

By the way only a minuscule portion of Bangladeshis can afford to go abroad and prqactice as a doctor. In fact a minuscule portion of the population get to medical school. And Bangladeshi and Indian doctors are doing fantastic abroad and also now a days there is a huge demand for international medical graduates so that is not bad at all.

Yes I do and I see no shame in that. I came to Canada b/c of the opportunities it had. If my country had those opportunities present then I would have never left BD. Its also important to remember only a minuscule portion of BD population go abroad and reside there.

When Bangladesh took birth its 1 Takka was eqivalent to 0.50 paisa of Pakistan, which means Pakistan currency was stronger, Now 1 Takka is equivalent to 1.25 of Pak Rupee, which means Bangldesh currency is stronger.
