Aubrey de Grey is working on a new treatment that probably will end ageing, so maybe people will be able to live 1000 years or more, I want that treatment, so I can do more stuff.
This is by far the best (And finestly condensed) video on Youtube that describes exactly how I feel. Like you, I was once a believer; a Christian actually. Regular church goer and Bible reader. But something happened to me to change all that. No, it wasn't a dramatic event in my life. Nor was it a strange anti-religious epiphany. It was just a gradual realisation that none of what I believed could be true. I held onto my belief by my fingernails but finally let go and declared I am an atheist.
I would disagree with this video. Look up existentialism. Existing by itself is pointless, regardless of whether you have an infinite or finite period of life. When you stop existing, it's as if you never existed in the first place, so everything we do is pointless.
@WhyLifeIsPointless Existentialism holds that you must find your own meaning (or purpose) for your life, this does not conflict in any way with my video that I can see. "Meaning" is an illusion anyway, just something we humans project on the world around us. Note early on I said that I do not demand that my life have meaning. I recognize the difference between value-judgments and reality. In any event I'm quite happy inventing my own purpose for my pointless life. :-)
If you really think that you are nothing more than a bunch of electrons, tell me why you are more "important" compared to an electrical kitchen appliance. The morality one would apply to a person would be equivalent to the morality one would apply to a cell phone.
I disagree with life having meaning only because it's finite. but I must say, that doers make the limited amount of days we have on this planet seem more important than they would if our lives were infinite.
I just rewatched the movie Troy staring Brad Pitt. This video reminds me of how his character (Achillies) told the princess how the Gods envy us because we are mortal. Things are more beautiful that way because we are doomed.

i really like the video but i mean if there was a awesome afterlife it wouldnt be as boring as u set it out to be
tommio337 2 months ago
@tommio337 There is no evidence for an afterlife, though. The point is that the fact that life ends doesn't make it pointless.

I dont agree..
who said in the first place that the meaning is the one and only we should be looking for?
muratner 3 months ago
My answer to the meaning of life is your next breath. If you are unable to breath then breathing becomes your intire purpose of life.

Bah. Screw meaning. I don't want to die. My meaning is to have pleasure, and the longer than lasts, the better.

That which cannot be understood has no meaning. The meaning is created by our understanding. Good video!
