This song inspired me to learn guitar and later on, I modded my Les Paul exactly like Greenie. I will be trying to master his style and tones for the rest of my life.
hmmm...... i stand corrected, just removed gary moore's overkill nonsense from my list of favourites, this is how it was meant to sound. you learn something every day.
Peter Green's unbelievable singing voice and guitar touch - cover yes, but the unique one. Sad that he was treated very bad in "psychological treatment". Electric shocks and everything...
I went thru My teenage yearsoutside S F Ca. I was witness to this music. I Can tell you this is the Best Blues by White Boys that has ever been Produced. Peter Green,Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer. In 1970 I moved to Florida and lived where the Alman brothers lived. Dicky Betts and Duane Alman no comparison to theses Guys, Eric clapton either. You Have Good Taste! TAR BABY
Great upload g3756m. Far better than the shorter version released as a single in the UK in Aug 1968. That summer was a big deal for me - not only left school but saw PG and the Mac for the second time, rockin' a small club in Bournemouth.
You've been driving for hours on a lonesome, dusty road going from somewhere to nowhere...you pull in to a little shack of a bar on the side of the road with nothing but one motorcycle and one pick-up truck resting outside...you walk in and order a cold one, find yourself a nice spot in the corner when you light up a cigarette, have a long swig of beer, kick back and this comes on the jukebox...though your journey aint yet complete, somehow you've arrived.
@mcprofacy You forgot to add. You see a woman sitting alone on a stool in front of the bar. Her radiant beauty calls to you and you ask her to slow dance this song with you. She accepts and you hold each other tightly for 6 minutes. She then invites you afterwards to her place where you make sweet love to her. The next day, you get back on the road thinking about the night before and have Peter Green's song in your head the whole day while smiling.
What a recording. Beautiful vocal and the most perfect guitar playing - no one will ever get close. Pete and Duane (Allman) - thank God they picked up guitars.
Yessir - Bloomfield up there too. I heard a story about some session when Robbie Robertson was around and MB jumped on the piano he was so much in awe - I ain't never heard nuthin blues-wise from Robertson that rivals MB's special talent. Good call my man !
May be you'll laugh at me, but when I listen this blues song, all my possible dirty feeling goes away and nothing is really important, as I could die without no real problem . . . you laugh ? that's good, I win !
Greeny always stuck my on may chair as if I was stoned, 40 years later !
Beautiful song, and for a 6 minute long track the guitar does just enough, none of this overblown every note in the scale nonsense for 4 minutes - it conveys the emotion of the song and that is enough.
@oldportboy this is the US version of the song which I think came out just after the UK version. If you want to hear a live version you should get Shrine 69 (CD) though, it is incredible.
@snakespan That Shrine version is my favorite...the most powerful singing and guitar playing. I've sobbed so often while listening to that version. And, that takes nothing away from the others!
this song just about sums it up

THIS is the definitive release of this track. The UK one sounds incomplete.
