  • You sound like billy mays

  • Tov meod

  • shalom to all.

  • ok, what is the difference between the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd aliyah that the Rabbi was talking about? I am not Jewish, but I am just curious..

  • @doglin82

Depending on the day, there is a various number of alijahs. In ancient times, the Kohanim, the priests, made the ceremonies in the temple of salomo. The Levi helped them. So its kinda like a hierarchy. So today, all descendants of Kohanim or Levis get the honor of getting the first or second alijah.

  • @DrXoz Judaism believes Muslims will (Like really religious ones [both Muslims and Jews]) go to heaven, and Islam teaches all believers (especially Muslims and Jews).

  • I personally find peace in islam, but to think that only one of the three religions is going to paradise makes me kinda sad.

  • im not jewish so i don't get this but my name's ALIYAH

  • "Barchu ES adonai ham-VOI-rah" or "Baruch et adonai ham-vay-rah". Do the Orthodox use a slightly different pronunciation for some words? I have noticed this before.

  • @joshster89 The Orthodox Ashkenazim use a different pronounciation than the Sefardim and Mizrachim.

  • when i get called for Aliyah, i say no lol

  • @sharkzone80 why?

  • Getting an aliyah is simple! You should have no fear at all.

If you can walk and talk you can get an aliyah.

  • G-d bless you rabbi. We are attending a bat mitzah service for my granddaughter, so you know already it is a conservative shul. We are being called up for an aliyah and my husband is more nervous than I. Thank you so much.

  • Thank you both very much. I learned something new G-d bless you both and all of the Lubavitch Tzadeckim.

  • Thank you. Very helpful. Shalom.

  • I am so nervous to Aliyah, I do get called up but I usually shake my head "no" My fiance always says "Just do it! It isn't hard, and I think you'd like it anyways" is that true?

  • <3 You'll love doing it. It'll make you feel closer to G-d!

  • Thank you! Please post more videos.

  • I had thousands of aliyah in my life and I still learned something looking at this film

  • good yontive Rabbi!!

    lashana to va

  • Thank you for sharing this. Peace.

  • im a aliyah... seriously lol

  • what actually is an aliyah?

  • the word "aliyah" means "going up, or ascending to G-d". the same word is used when a jewish person returns to live in the land of israel. here, it refers to "being called to the torah"...an honor given to jewish people over the age of barmitzvah, usually 13. being "called to the torah" has very deep significance and meaning. in traditional times, the person called would actually chant the torah portion. today, they usually just sing the blessings.

  • thank you Josh. So, when they talk about a wave of Aliyah, it's a wave of Jews 'returning' to Israel? Cheers.

  • Good Work Rab, thanks a lot for your help.

  • Nice job Rabbi. Baruch HaShem.

  • Very informative....something we should know....but were afraid to ask.

  • Yeah. good comment.. my bat mitzvah is tomorrow(march 1 2008) and i had NO idea when to kiss the torah during an aliyah. This video saved me from a lot of embarassment(i cant spell well)
