it may be the parental setting. (each game has a certain level of content, given in numbers from 1-11. most m-rated games have a content level of 9, i believe red faction has 10, im not sure though.)

What amazes me the most is you can still interact with the environment! What I mean is, you can climb a ladder and destroy it! Most games they would either make the ladder indestructible or make you not able to climb it.... But they do both!
