  • As breathtaking the hundredth time as it was the first.

  • Very beautiful rendition. Thank you.

  • When I die, I want this man to play this song at my funeral.

It's just such a beautiful song, from one of the best/beautiful albums ever.

    :)

  • Beautiful.

  • Terrific, I agree that this version is both sympathetic to, and adds to, the original.

CD must surely come soon. JOHN.

  • @lucyjoyw

thankks. CD is already out. See my "Album Announcement" video and see "buy" links on my channel or just go to Itunes or Amazon and search "Tony R Clef - Tuesday Afternoon". And thanks again.

  • Very well done ... really enjoyed your cover ...

  • You are fantastic! One of my all-time favorite songs, and you do an amazing job of interpreting it on the acoustic guitar. Thanks so much for sharing your talent!!

  • Oh, thank God I found this song by you tonight... I can feel my soul again.

  • Your the greatest cover guitarist on Youtube,

  • Oh man that;s good. Honest bro, you've got it. The feeling is exceptional.

  • well done sir, very well done indeed!

  • All I can say is.... WOW. Everything about it is, well... perfect!

  • Fantastic! Love all your covers, man. Great Job.

  • amazing

  • that's beautiful !

    congrats from France

  • playing this along side the acapella is so nice

  • LETS GO AWAY FOR AWHILE

  • Brian Wilson is a genius and you, too.

  • Merci my friend. This is so beautiful. I am Currently trying to learn how to play it like you do from PARIS in France. I need some indication.

  • that was amazing,

  • Comment removed

  • this dude can play

  • perfect!

  • my current favourite song :) as a caroline myself i absolutely love it! extremely well played!x

  • One of these days you should absolutely do one for "Lets Go Away For Awhile"

  • you must to do more songs of beach boys, especially of album pet sounds, conratulations for your videos

  • stunning,well done

  • lovely!!

  • Man you're very good

  • I've been playing guitar for over 40 years, this song has been the most single difficult for me to play...can you e-mail your starting chrod? Exquisite!

    rjs

  • play a fminor in first inversion (ie, aflat in the bass). with the capo on one an fminor plays like the much easier eminor

  • of course even more interesting is the 2nd chord which some might play as a simple f# barre chord. that would be a shame. it's f# in 2nd inversion (ie, c# in the bass)

  • now revisiting the original track i find i'm not playing the very easy to do bass line that repeats throughout. first time is right after "long hair go"..bom bom bom bom. those 4 bass note are easy to incorporate so make sure you add them.

  • Gorgeous!

  • one of the most beautiful songs on guitar i have ever heard, you can clearly tell the beatles were influenced by the beach boys

  • they fed off of each other...that's what made both bands great

  • @ontheturn

    -

    and vice versa

  • Beautiful!...

  • Did you really just do that with a guitar?

  • amazing my friend!

  • thanks great playing

  • Fabulous

  • What continues to amaze me about this version- it's the only one I've heard that adds to the original, while preserving and honoring every musical idea Brian had in 1966. Having heard so many covers, including some nice ones, there's never a note or a chord here where I say "Great, but I miss that other thing..."

It simply adds to the original. A stunning achievement. Breathtakingly beautiful work.

Please release these for download or do a CD!!!

  • thanks!

  • @SurferJoe1

You've said it all for me.

  • Everytime I try to learn this song I get so blue I have to start, for 30 years it hits a nerve- great post Let's go away for awhile a possibility?

  • SO beautiful! And so nice to see Brian's music respected this way. MORE of Brian's tunes Please! How bout something from the 20/20 album? Time To Get Alone or I Went To Sleep maybe???

  • Breaks my heart.

  • i thought brian wilson's pop arrangement skills couldnt be riviled....

    maybe i was wrong! =]

  • Fantastic. I'd love to see a tab if you have one...its a great arrangement.

  • He does it all from memory.

  • good rendition

  • very nice!

  • you should do one for "lets go away for awhile"

  • one of the best songs ever.

  • soulful, brother. great job!

  • Fantastic! This song has held a special meaning for me for the last 25 or so years. You really captured it. Thanks.

  • Amazing. I was wondering if by chance you had the arrangement you used :-)

  • He arranges them himself without paper. It's all in his info page.

  • Amazing. From the moment you started. You got my attention with your guitar skills. Wonderful. It's so Beautiful:)

  • I have been playing guitar for 20 years... i am 36 now... your rendition of this just absolutely BLOWS ME AWAY! fantastic work.

  • thanks for all the comments. please subscribe if you feel so inclined. cheers.

  • AWESOME!

  • Is this conventional tuning? Does indeed sound great.

  • yes. i believe so. with capo on 1st fret

  • Pet Sounds is the best!

    GREAT rendition.

  • My favorite song by the Beach Boys. Wonderful job, bro.

  • woah!!!! amazing

  • you really could make some great tabs off these. I know i would buy em.

  • So beautiful. I just also watched God only Knows and that was just as beautiful. You know, you could make an absolute FORTUNE by tabbing & publishing these fantastic arrangements! You da man - brilliant.

  • You sure do know what's worth arranging, and you do it very well.

  • Very Nice. how much was the Martin?

  • Great arrangement!

  • That was such a beautiful guitar rendition of this song . . . it sent chills down my spine every bit as much as the official recording does. It was perfect.

And I almost never leave comments on YouTube, so there you go!

  • I assume you are a music theory professor at some university or community college somewhere... not just because of the way you play... but you look like one. Beautiful cover of what is probably my favorite song on one of my favorite albums of all time.

  • Beautiful!

  • simply amazing

  • El Chicano does a great job of this song also..(yes a Latin Rock group covers the Beach Boys) not on youtube but I hope someone will post it.

  • just beautiful,i love this track from pet sounds, this is a piece i got to learn on my to do list,

  • How talented! Just a fantastic version of this song. Thank you.

  • Sometimes a song touches so close to the soul that it forces a person to sit back and reminisce, recalling the time, place and girl with whom the song was first heard and appreciated. You've captured that essence and have taken me back to that era and the girl who held my heart so dearly before the Dear John letter. It's strange, after listening to your superb performance, how it all flooded back so vividly after so many years. Thank you for posting this lovely time machine.

  • Thats just fantastic.

    You got it mate.

  • I loved this rendition so much I joined youtube just so I could comment.

The prior comments have said it all, but I wanted to personally say thanks for capturing the true bittersweet spirit of this classic.

Don't know if Brian Wilson has heard this rendition, but I'd wager he'd agree.

Can't wait to hear your other stuff; I'm an old Wilson fanatic; music lover; but pretty new to youtube; a little late to the party but

    enjoying it nonetheless.

    Thanks for sharing your talents.

  • thanks so much for your comments. glad to have you "on board". cheers

  • WOW -- I wish you were my friend so I could just sit near you and listen and applaud! It was marvelous that you understood how important - how it sets the feeling of the song to include the 'tapping / or drumming' at the beginning. I send you a hug-of-appreciation.

  • your guitar skills are amazing, so calming - loved that you did the "drumming" on the guitar before you started playing, sounds just like the "drumming" on the original;) Nice job...!

  • Thats fantastic, I'll have the fingers bleeding until I can play it, I've been worshipping at the church of Wilson for many moons, and it only struck me while watching you how similar that melody is to early Jobim

  • interesting. thanks, glad you liked it.

  • That's just the way I feel it. Thanks you are wonderful.

  • Have you thought about doing a rendition of Heroes and Villains? I'm sure the complex harmonies of that one would be a real challenge, but I bet it would sound great. Keep up the good work.

  • thanks. i don't know that one too well. i'll check it out. thanks.

  • Yeah, after relistening to that one, I think it might be a little too varied in instrumentation for you to approximate it accurately with just a guitar (even if you played it on a twelve string I bet). What about Hang On To Your Ego/I Know There's An Answer instead?

  • Is that a challenge? :D

  • Haha, yeah, sure if that's what it takes. No, but really, if it were all up to me, I'd probably rather hear "I know there's an answer" than "Heroes and villains". Anyway, good luck

  • i think you could do heroes and villains, there are a few different variations of it out there.

  • do you have an album out of all your covers?

  • Very nicely done!

  • Beautiful,i am sure Brian Wilson would agree!

  • Thank you, for showing me this ultimate guitar version of this beautiful pet sounds-song. I really enjoy playing it like that! It's arranged so beautifully. I love it!!!...and I play it almost every day. greetings from Germany

  • thanks. glad you like it.

  • Is this in a normal tuning? Thanks

  • yes. capo on 1

  • I miss the train sounds at the end!

  • Tears and shivers...amazing job. Thank You

  • if a guitar had a voice it would sound like this

  • this is absoluetly amazing, thank you for posting this.

  • Sir, when I grow up, I want to be just as good a guitar player as you. hehe.

  • If ever I heard a rainy day song...

  • I keep coming back to this. Amazing interpretation and performance.

  • nice my friend, my favourite song of all time...

  • Simply amazing. You are a great talent. You capture the sadness of the song with your fluid playing. I love all the songs you've done.

  • Awesome rendition.

I love the percussion intro(which I believe was done on a coke bottle in the original Beach Boys/Pet Sounds

    version).

  • That was simply beautiful. I am a huge Beach Boys fan and your rendition was simply amazing. Keep up the good work.

  • thank you

  • Glorious, absolutely glorious.

  • Lovely. Just beautiful. I get teary eyed any time I hear this song. The chords take me back to the LA beaches in the early sixties. Warmth of the Sun is also a tear wrencher with an interesting story about what led to its composition. Again, thank you.

  • its one of the best beach boys songs i like ever. You have done an excellent accoustic version of it.
