but now that i think about this song, its not all that hard to come up with..i've come up with better while fiddling around on the piano. the melody is such a simple melody and the bassline just follows it..nothing special.

But does that really matter? It's such a beautiful song no matter how complicated it is, and really, that's the point of all music, not necessarily to be difficult or copicated, but to be something that people will enjoy for any number of reasons.

I wouldn't consider this an etude. It doesn't seem like you're practicing a technique, and it's almost enjoyable, unlike most discordant etudes.

Music flows. It is expression, never the same 2 days in a row. Most of the time it's simple, based on chord progressions, and these are lovely pieces. Sometimes it really hops along, fun and energetic. Othertimes, just madness. Theory is the ability to speak and share these moments.

First off, the piece isn't monotonous. The tonality helps convey emotion, simply because he's not covering the entire range of the piano in his piece doesn't make it monotonous - as for dissing it and calling it cheap, there's the classic "I'd like to see you do better!"
