i just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart what a voice and i only became aquainted with him a few weeks ago thank you thank you thank you
This is the melody from the opening theme of the movie 'Shane' with Alan Ladd. Thanks for posting. I think I'll teach myself this song on my Harmonica. Ciao!
@fatjud1 I will. I've already learned it. Great classic cowboy sound. Now I just have to get a camera. LOL. This song just happens to be in the same key of C as my Harmonica.
@weightfeather1 Here's an answer to why the confusion: this record was issued as MGM 11510. Side A (S241) is Dick Thomas singing 'Brass Ring Love'; side B (S240) is Ken Curtis singing 'Call of the Faraway Hills'. Easy to see why the record label was misread.
I had the Ken Curtis version of this song as a child on a 78 RPM record which has been lost for the last 50 years. I have been longing to hear this song again for so long now. What a lovely surprize to finally see it here once again. My e: is cyrus_kapadia@hotmail.com. How do I contact fatjud1?
my grandad likes this song very mutch and cant seem to find it any where is there any way u can send me the soundtrack so i can put it onto cd for him please

@shep1e I would be glad to send it to you via email but i will need your email address sent to me in a private message so everyone on youtube can't see it.
I'm not convinced this is Ken Curtis. Not only does this not sound like his other postings but it sounds exactly like Dick Thomas' 1953 recording on MGM before the studio added the 'Shane, come back' overdub onto the record. However, it is a beautful recording.
@DoxieMax O.J. Sikes from the boston pete radio network said this is Ken Curtis so i am gonna take his word for it. He knew a lot of these stars personally so i will go with that.
@fatjud1 I'm inclined to respect his opinion too and surfing around only uncovers Ken Curtis. However, my brother read the name 'Dick Thomas' from the label to me on the phone a few years ago when I was making a tape of western songs. And ages ago, I could swear I saw the name Dick Thomas (who was a C&W singer) on the record myself unless my neurons are starting to engage in revisionist history. :-) I wondered if there were two recordings but I can't find any proof of that.

@tomcat6680 You're so very welcome, he really deserves to be better known for his singing instead of a character he played on tv.

Ken Curtis's voice, Victor Young's melody, the scenery, and the memories of Shane--all wonderful. Thanks a million for posting this beautiful song.
