  • Well.... I posted this last year so..... I forgot lego dude but to answer your question, yea i guess it is like area 51 :)

  • watch out for nova 6

  • I was surprised they didn't wear more protection when they went into the actual lab. That being said, this show doesn't mention anything about the United States sponsored mission to Voz Island in 2002 where they claim to have decontaminated all of the waste sites. Of course, I'm sure some of it survived.

  • NOVA 6 :D

  • protection suits and mouth masks. the ground is dangerous, the air is dangerous and even the towns people are dangerous.

this are not even looters. this are scrap sellers

"anthrax-island" lol sure. I wont be watching any of his pseudo documentarys again.

  • Although this is over-dramatic, I do agree that the whole situation with the looters is a bit sketchy... Those guys did seem a LITTLE bit suspicious...

  • Go airsoft omfg ! x')

  • The Soviet Union has always been connected with the worst environmental disasters like Aral Sea, Chernobyl.....

  • жалко конечно остров,я два года служил там в 80-х.И уж точно противогазы там совершенно ни к чему.Всё разграбили,в хороших руках можно было сохранить.

  • I thought Russia didn't let anyone go to voz island. They even said your weren't allowed to fly over it or take any pictures...

  • @19copilot so what your saying it is like the us area 51? lol

  • Rebirth island :D

  • this reminds me off LOST where the survivors discover dharma initiative labs.

  • @vincedu69 really!!!??? already? :o

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU SEARCHED HERE BECAUSE OF BLACKOPS!!!

  • @isthisthelongestname

the island is called gruinard island, it was decontaminated a few years ago

  • seeing the western white trash wearing protection clothes and the local "taxi drivers", who remain uncovered, makes me sick. it is a mental colonisation of the west, a natural playground of film industry. scum.

  • @chnldr He did offer them protection if you watch film number one, so calm yourself down

  • Platform for Hoolliwood :)

  • That's very risky - anthrax remains alive for more than 100 years.

It's unwise to keep open parts of skin – if you happen to have a cut there you’re doomed. The anthrax that was tested there is 838 type that is not effected by antibiotics or anthrax vaccination “…taking the next flight out...” and possibly bring anthrax worldwide. Great job, yeah!

  • @NoctumDeVir

There is an Island of the coast of scotland that was used to test anthrax...

  • why does the human race do stuff like this if we wanna test things like this it shud be tested in labs and tested on terrorist and ppl condemed to death

  • @kashaboy2 Well in the Soviet Union pretty much anyone could be labeled as a terrorist... soooo they did! :)

  • This is idiotic. There's nothing of interest there, and the video only confirms it (while amping up the dramatic music and rampant speculation). Wow, they found respirators and test tubes in a bio lab! Amazing! What did they expect to find?

I would have no problem walking around there with no protection. I wouldn't start licking the floors in the lab either, but I bet it's no more hazardous there than any Superfund site, or say the Gowanus canal. Probably less hazardous, actually.

  • You are absolutely right.

Believe to me. I have given two years of a life to this island.

  • @NNalexander Thanks for your reply. I wonder, did you work there during Soviet times, while the site was still active? If you were there for two years working at the lab, it would be absolutely fascinating to hear more about your experience. Though I would understand if you did not wish to discuss it.

  • lol

  • with all that drama, where's their hard evidence? Didn't they bring any testing equipment? It may have been toxic, but who knows unless they have some proof? Lots of things smell bad that aren't toxic. They had the opportunity to expose what was there but in the end proved nothing. What a waste of time.

  • The authorities probably prohibited them from testing anything else theyd probably find themselves locked up in a Gulag lol. And I know if I was somewhere as supposedly lethal as that I wouldnt stick around if something started to smell strange

  • @HappyComfort Go ahead and strut around in shorts and sunglasses there if you want

  • @fenixwylde Give me a good reason not to! Heh. Ok, maybe not inside the lab building itself... but on the streets, in the city, etc. of course I would be in shorts and sunglasses. It's freaking hot and sunny there!

Seriously, I wouldn't mind visiting Voz. I love to travel, and it's as fascinating a place as any to see before you die. We should all travel more, to beautiful places as well as ruined ones; to see the creative and destructive dual forces of mankind.

  • 2:35 small pox...who knows, anthrax, who knows...botulinum... if air got to it, dont worry obout it. and the toxin...the sold it to the us for injection into the eyebrows of the stars (botox is the toxin).

  • because aral sea has been abandoned by mass media for ages, chernobyl and other catastrophes are more popular, but the aral sea should deserve much more attention and money

  • vod island was once a huge bioweapons laboratory for the soviets, until the 90's when it was abandoned, Sea, Vozrozhdeniya Island was one of the main laboratories and testing sites for the Soviet Unions Microbiological Warfare Group. In 1948, a top-secret Soviet bioweapons laboratory was established here. The main town on the island was Kantubek, which lies in ruins today, but once had approximately 1,500 inhabitants.

why nobody knows about this area???

  • Why nobody knows that occurs in the state of Utah?

On island all has ended in 1992.

    Now all proceeds in Utah.

  • @NNalexander What is going on in Utah?

  • In the world there were two open ranges - island of Revival in the Aral sea in the USSR.

And in the USA in the state Utah.

The USA and the USSR kept mum about it before all world.

In 1992 the range on island has stopped the existence.

In the state Utah field tests of the biological weapon proceed.

  • @NNalexander Please tell me specifically where in Utah (coordinates or closest town/road). I'd like to look it up.

  • Range VS of USA Dugway in state of Utah.

  • @BoneThugsss People seem to be more afraid of radiation than anything else. There is something very mysterious and scary to non-science-minded folk about invisible magic rays that kill you. Chernobyl also affected Europe more directly, and hence the West was involved more personally with the catastrophe there. It also sparked a greater debate over nuclear power.

The Aral, however, is far away from the developed states of the West and can be ignored easily. So, sadly , most nations ignore it.

  • Can anyone tell me what happened on 'Vod' island? It's been mentioned that an environmental disaster occurred there (or along the lines of). When was the site decomissioned? Did they leave when the soviet union collapsed? Why is it not being maintained if such lethal bio-chemicals are present? Why don't many people know of this place? If anyone could answer my questions that would be appreciated lol - it's an interesting subject.

  • Interestingly, January 18, 2002 briefing transcripts indicate that the site is heavily guarded by Uzbekistan's military, although there is no sign of their presence in this documentary. Even if access to the site was blocked, it still would not prevent contaminants from being carried out by wind, animals and insects, and being introduced into the human population and food chain.

  • I've read interviews stating that villagers occasionally see Uzbek helicopters landing on site. However, since looters present almost no danger, the military may simply be monitoring the island for large scale projects ie. people trying to dig up the buried containers. The lack of military presence is probably also due to Middleton coming from the Kazakh side of the Aral Sea and the Kazakhs are not as concerned about the dangers posed by Aralsk-7.

  • @MercurySilver Kazakhstan is actually more involved in the Aral Sea area. It has money and resources that Uzbekistan lacks; not much money, but enough to save the Northern Aral Sea; though at detriment to the Southern Aral, the Southern Aral is beyond help now. Look at satellite views though, and you will see the Northern Aral is back to normal. It's a small accomplishment, but it's something.

  • The ecological disaster of Aral sea is irreplaceable the nearest 100 years!

  • @kazikian I was referring to the Kazakhs involvement in Aralsk-7 as opposed to the Aral Sea as an ecological region.

  • You obviously don't know anything about Anthrax or Anthrax spores. Your opinions are so far off, it's like saying the wind might carry Sammy Sosa onto a needle filled with steroids, and he might end up putting on ice skates, and play his final days in the NHL.

  • Since the making of the documentary I believe the Island has become a penisula and since then the military has stepped up its involvement on the island/peninsula. This is what I've read anyway. I'd love to hear if you know anything different/more. It's a interesting subect and really plays on our macabre fascinations.

  • Such a mess would never be permitted to exixst in many other parts of the world. It seems that Russia is having nothing to do with this. Uzbekistan is apparantly getting greater help and cooperation from the United States.

  • Бред!!!

  • СОГЛАСЕН!

  • i cant believe how nation as small as yours can be so incredibly arrogant. Russians put it right: rudiments of colonial thinking is still there, examine your heads before you dare to criticize someone. поменяй сначала это, возможно потом я заберу свои слова.

  • наша доброта, открытость, наивность were abused by freaks like you. i probably never forgive you borat movie, not because it hurt me deep inside. the nation as controversial as yours sold someone else to gain a sympathy from US. you are the 51th state, it is so obvious and soooo gay! вы пытаетесь понравиться американцам, прятаться за их спиной в ираке, афганистане.

  • OH MY GOD! WANT!

My dear god, what I would give to visit that place. Sweet Jesus!

  • ur such a prick pooraccountant, stop critising other ppl

  • "I can smell urine..."

    Oh, god! :))))

  • ну тупые!

  • Comedy :)

  • ha! a perfect place for fallout game fans :)

  • Долбоёбы в масках!!! Всё там ровно, жить можно.

  • idiots!

  • These two brits are freaking me out. come on TV stars, no way you are the first brits on the island. either you two are really stupid or you just very good actors trying to sell their show. either way, you see how easy you can reach out to that site?! what makes you think NATO dogs were not there straight after the USSR collapse? I am Kazakh, Aral sea problem is no strange to me, but i am not gonna allow the reps of an arrogant nation turn it into a show. Go make your fortunes on Borat sequels.

  • Actually, there are lot of people who are not aware of this place and what went on there. YouTube community member Pooraccountant's post reads like an arrogant comment, yet implies arrogance of others, which seems very insensitive and hypocritical. Sure, a good point was made about NATO investigators, put why be such an a-hole about it?

  • What is annoying about these reporters is their obvious lack of knowledge about the whole situation. Aralsk-7 is shocking and much of this episode was thoroughly fascinating (I always wanted to see the actual site) but it is clear Middleton has done little more than a wiki search on Vozrozhdeniya and none on biological weapons. The alarmist tone is overdone and the unwarranted suspicion of the locals solely because they are poor and foreign is condescending and needlessly over-dramatized.

  • @MercurySilver Yeah you're right, they should have just completely trusted these total strangers with their lives as not to be perceived as racists.

  • @SayNoToTheism They already trusted them with their lives by staying with them and going to an abandoned island with them. The fact is that the locals gave Middleton and his team hospitality and transport and never did anything suspicious other than looting an abandoned island for scrap metal (likely their source of income). Middleton repays that by insinuating that they could be terrorists or assisting terrorists without any evidence, all for the sake of making his documentary more dramatic.

  • @MercurySilver But the crimes! The crimes!

  • "who could say what evil concoctions they contained" lol, this was interestnig but i agree the narrator was overly dramatic

  • There is some good news about the Aral Sea. The Kazakh government built a dam and are restoring the northern part. Fish are already returning.

  • Ostrov Vozrozhdeniya?! It is a poisonous island! I hate the stupid Soviets! Draining out the sea just to feed them fucking cotton. and now, Uzbek govt is drilling into the sea bed for oil. What is this nonsense man?! By the way, I'm not some guy living there. I'm from Singapore. But I feel very sad that such a thing happened.

  • Evil researcher !!!!

  • Very interesting. But I don't buy the deliberate overtly dramatic tone of the narrator.

  • horrifying

  • very nice

  • This is really disgusting and terrible disaster!

    Bloody communists!

  • @Snickisen Because capitalism has done absolutely nothing to harm the environment ever in the history of the industrial age.... right?

  • Yes, that right too. But i just wanted to say my feelings about communism.

    Hope you understand.

  • @Snickisen I hear you. The way I see it, capitalism is pretty flawed but it is so much less flawed than the alternatives we've seen. Maybe one day we'll find a better way, but communism isn't it.

  • communism - can be only in the sky. All rest from crafty

  • please upload some more

  • Cheers, Crumbs. Enjoyed this episode immensely.
