As a white kid growing up in Catonsville, I was hooked on soul music. Fat Daddy, Kelston "Chop Chop" Fisher, Long Tall Lean Lanky Larry Dean, Hot Rod and his Supper in Space show...what memories! "Double-W-Eye-En, radio 14" "WEBB, that's the station for me, 1-3-6-0h, on your radi-o, don;t let your rhythm ebb, keep it on the WEBB " "WSID-Ten-Ten on your AM dial!" "Thunderbird-what's the price? Thirty twice!" My iPod is loaded with do-wop and classic soul.
Thanks for posting this!! I emailed it to my older sister, who used to listen to him all the time! I looked up to my sister and wanted to be just like her. I adopted her love for soul music ata very young age!!! Brings back great memories!!!
For a biography and 12 great sound clips of the Fat Poppa Show Stoppa, I suggest you visit Don Lehnhoff's awesome web site baltimorejam (dot-org) and search under media / radio / fat daddy.
We moved to Timonium from Michigan in 1965 and I couldn't believe what I heard on WWIN and WSID. This man was simply amazing, I skipped school in Timonium just to listen to his morning show. As soon as I heard one show I stopped listening to WCAO. What I wouldn't do to get my hands on that LP...
Thanks for the clip. I have about 3 hours of aircheck from WSID in the 60's. I remember seeing him many times at the Balamer Civic Center with the likes of James Brown, the Drifters, Temptations, etc. Fat Daddy always put on one hell of a show. Does anyone remember his Manchester Shoe ads? He had two in particular that I would love to get copies of. Both long poems set to classical versions of "Greensleeves" and "Stand By Me". Anyone know if they exist? "Tangerine and grey forever and a day!"
Thanks for the great memories. "Fat Daddy" and "Commander Hot Rot" were my DJs during the 60's in Baltimore. I did not know that "Fat Daddy" produced an LP!
I used to wake up to Fat Daddy at 6:00 A.M. when he played "Ready for Love" by Martha and stella Vandellas. The king of the DJs.

around that time, "Mad Daddy" (Pete Myers) was doing a very similar act on WINS NY.

Loved "Fat Daddy" and "Hot Rod" but Sir Johnny O and "Swinging" Sam Beasley were my favorites. All hail WWIN-AM 1400 on your dial.
