@ohsnapiam59 A) Asking hypothetical questions is pointless. B) Given what she sings, a director would be a fool not to cast Musetta as a beautiful woman It starts - When I walk When I walk alone in the street People stop and stare at me And everyone looks at my beauty, Looks at me From head to foot. And then I relish the sly yearning Which escapes from their eyes And which is able to perceive My most hidden beauties. Thus the scent of desire is all around me, And it makes me happy!
I love Puccini. I love opera. But I wonder...would people be making such a fuss over this singer if she were butt-ugly? Nice voice but definitely not a favorite.
They say Puccini was rather an ass-hole, and history records that Mozart was a bit of a silly twit. So how to explain that this other worldly music came through them? Maybe, as with Joan of Arc, or others who were so much smaller than their calling, it has more to do with them being conduits than being great in themselves?
Personally, I like Anna above all others singing this.

@mrsentite A beautiful woman does not by necessity make a good anything yet I as somebody who attends the opera at least once a month and has even written a book on the subject of opera; can say that she is a stupendous singer. @sobefobik Excuse me?! I wasn't aware that sharing an opinion meant receiving insults! I just don't think she's that good. @ChristoEtEcclesiae You're exactly right. You have every right to an opinion, but just because you don't like her or her style doesn't mean that she needs more training. The fact that you live in a city known for "excellent musical taste" is in of itself an opinion and irrelevant.

Yes, I'm glad to hear a soprano that sings Puccini as it would be Mahler.
Anna Netrebko is perfect to sing the most refined repertoire from Bach to Schumann, Wagner, Debussy, Strauss and Berg. This is only a "little" part of her potential.
If you like Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, or Il Divo you will love Joseph D'Alessandro Jr. Joseph is an authentic Italian lyric tenor with an amazing voice you will surely love. On his debut CD on iTunes he sings classic tenor cover songs…in both classical and pop styles such as "When You Say You Love Me", "Nella Fantasia", "Nessun Dorma", "Mama", "E Lucevan Le Stelle", and "The Prayer" which he sings with the incredible soprano, Helene Lundstrom, who sounds even better then Celine Dion.
Sie ist die Größte, die Schönste und einfach die beste Sängerin, zum Dahinschmelzen. Ich denke, dieses Konzert fand auf der Waldbühne in Berlin statt, bin mir aber nicht ganz sicher.
No doubt the singing is good, but I think the frivolity of this aria in La Boheme is quite different - Anna could be Mimi... never Musetta with such a heavy interpretation. In making this piece sound great as a single, she has totally forgotten poor Musetta...
@hansley04 Sorry to disappoint you, but Anna is very rare guest at home. Now she mostly performs abroad and many Russian people just heard her name and this is true and sad...
On 20es Giacomo Puccini went to Vienna to listen a performance of Gurrelieder, by Arnold Schoenberg.
Gurrelieder are one of the first works by the great Austrian master, and Giacomo Puccini found it really conventional, in comparison to great and more famous masterworks as Pierrot Lunaire etc.
He was really disappointed, because he was really anxious to know more about the innovations of Schoenberg and his trip was abolutely useless. This is History.
I'll tell more, Anna is performing many so called "easy pieces" (inverted commas) for the public (as the legend say...), but the fact she's reaching a large audience doesn't mean she takes the easy way. On the contrary I think it is her generosity that allows her to be so extroverted in comparison to other unapproachable ascetics like the pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. I think she lives on, and for the stage, but that's the opposite of "easy".
She is excellent, but I think I prefer Barbara Padilla when she sang this with the Heartland Symphony Orchestra a few months ago. She has better diction of the lyrics, and she has a more powerful voice than Anna. Barbara also has a very rich, supple tone in her voice, more so than Anna.
@zucchini2007You perhaps mean that girl from the show" America'got talent".??? Yep, she has rather good diction and of course she 's a bit of talent. She should work and work days and nights to approach a professional level.Nevertheless any opinion here must be respected.
@spqrmor I don't think Barbara Padilla needs to "work and work", she's got a master's in music from the University of Houston. She's got plenty of experience and she's about to release her debut album very soon!
@zucchini2007 There are plenty of opera singers that are very good but don't have much publicity. But Anna Netrebko certainly needs no introduction. Everywhere she goes, the tickets are always sold out.
I must admit she has a beautiful color to her voice, and I will admit that in terms of technique I was judging too harshly. I, after reading your comments, gave her a little more attention and found some recent videos of her. Early on- I think Netrebko "beefed" up her sound a little more than she needed too. I will stand corrected that her technique is NOT as bad as I heard, but I think she is working way to hard throughout the middle voice and opening way too much towards the top.
She is a soprano singer and most women sopranos It is not easy hear because his record voice notes are very sharp, so your opinion is very precarious. Besides his diction is very clear and precise, just that there are areas of very high notes in some songs and there where the soprano, precisely because reach those records so sharp is not easy for an ear profane can not hear it clearly and therefore you are very wrong.
She always sounds like she's struggling a bit to me. Is it not effortless, like Sills or Sutherland.

Sorry, my previous statement was too strong,
however, that the woman who plays Musetta is very beautiful
and looks like she is capable of seducing many men -
adds greatly to the authenticity of her role!
A director who has a choice between singers
of similar performance skills, should give preference to the most beautiful one.
It is nowhere near as important for the role of Mimi, for example.
In theatrical performances, nevertheless, most people prefer very attractive people as lovers. :)

Yes Anna is also, among other things, a very beautiful woman.
It is ludicrous to suggest that this is what makes her popular.
Like it or not, many directors may prefer to choose beautiful women,
but hey are you folk blind? There are many beautiful, even very beautiful women,
among other top and close to top women performers - they are pretty much equal!
Anna is recognised for her great singing, performing, charisma, presence, relating to fellow performers, audiences with almost magnetic effect.

Musetta is a contrast character to Mimi. Here it sounds more like Mimi and less like Musetta.
She is better suited temperamentally to Mimi. no doubt, so it is a bit bland.
Nice voice, beautiful woman. A bit muddy diction in the Russian mold.

@zucchini2007
An advice: listen the entire Tristan und Isolde by Wagner, then you'll know from where this aria comes (...not from America's got talent).
Then listen the opera omnia of Arnold Schoenberg, and you'll know where this aria leads (not to Barbara Padilla).

ahahahahahahahahahahahah....America's got talent
It's like trying to say that someone who reads the electricity meter is doing nuclear physics.

I think she lives on, and for the stage, but that's the opposite of "easy".

wow she is the best singer and shes beautifull, talent!!!!!!!!!!! nice dress to

She should work and work days and nights to approach a professional level.Nevertheless any opinion here must be respected.
spqrmor 1 year ago
@spqrmor I don't think Barbara Padilla needs to "work and work", she's got a master's in music from the University of Houston. She's got plenty of experience and she's about to release her debut album very soon!

@zucchini2007 There are plenty of opera singers that are very good but don't have much publicity. But Anna Netrebko certainly needs no introduction. Everywhere she goes, the tickets are always sold out.

@zucchini2007 I wish that girl to be seen in famous opera houses and all the best in her career.

She has a nice voice but her diction is terrible. U can hear anything she is saying because she is darkening she sound so the words are sloppy
