  • poor elphaba, she is so misunderstood

  • when i was little i was terrified of the "wicked witch of the west." and now, i feel so guilty! who knew she was such a complex person... stupid dorothy.

  • LURV!

  • I think Elphaba created 8 youtube accounts after actually meeting the Wizard just to dislike this video....

  • "I could melt" "when they see me they'll scream" "waiting for since birth" complete irony

  • Check out my cover of this song? :)

  • OK guys get it, this doesnt remind you of "you and me (but mostly me)"! "you and me (but mostly me)" reminds ME of this song, because get it wicked was before the book of mormon! wicked started in 2033, and the book of mormon took 7 yers to finish! LOVE WICKED THROUGH AND THROUGH

  • I love Glee but if they do this song I swear to God I will kill who ever sanged it- expect if it was Idina Menzal then I will celabrate <3 <3 <3 <3

  • @greenapplenightsky sanged?!

  • Came here from "You and Me (But Mostly Me)". I see the influence, but it's really not as similar as I expected.

  • i always sing this in the shower lol

  • youtube.com/watch?v=hqoAyONTRKw&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

  • i sang this for a school talent show and every one loved it i was so amazed

  • This reminds me of "You and Me (But Mostly Me)" From Book of Mormon

  • Irony plus foreshadowing equals pure WIN.

  • RACHEL TUCKER

  • The wiz is your papa, elphie!

  • Love this song!! ((((A W E S O M E ))) :O)

  • If we're talking about dramatic irony, don't forget "since, since birth"! Elphaba sounds completely normal as an enthusiastic fan, but the songwriter managed to sneak in a hint as to why she really wants to know the wizard, something she doesn't even know herself!

  • @Medustax yeah cause the wizard is actually closer to elphaba than she thinks I don't want to say cause I would be a spoiler

  • 1:21- 5:13 <3

  • ok listin to the very last "Wizard and I" she actualy adds an L so it's "LI!"

  • @topduelist111 I actually think the "L" sound is just an extension of the D in "and." Sort of a way to smoothly get to the next note

  • 4:09 is like a punch in the gut.

The saddest part is that she says it in such a happy way....

  • i did not expect the ending part with the wizard. It made me like Wicked even more!

  • "And I'll what nothing else til i die!" or until i realize hes a complete fraud

  • I'm singing this song in my school's talent show!

  • @Sangofan4ever good luck! :D

  • @Sangofan4ever funny, i'm gonna do this or edelweiss for an audition for a musical

  • is it just me, or does this song remind me of You and Me (But Mostly Me) from The Book of Mormon? O.O

especially "unlimited, my future is unlimited!" "something incredible, I'll do something incredible!".

  • @girldragon00 Really? I have nothing to say to this.

  • @girldragon00 yes also defying gravity sounds a lot like it

  • why cant i sing like that? i loveee idina<3

  • :)

  • Wow the strings have great roles in Wicked.

  • The people who wrote the lyrics to this song has a sick and twisted humor. My kind of people. XD

  • 6 people don't have talent to meet the Wizard.

  • I really dislike all the irony in this song, but all together, I love this song!!

  • 5 people will deffinetly never meet the wizard.

  • @TH36YM

Normally I hate spoilers too, but...this is about the Wizard of Oz! Everyone knows what happens. gotta agree with the dramatic irony love, so good!!

  • @Veggie133 But you know what totally caught me off guard? When I went to see Wicked onstage, the ending was totally NOT what I expected. It just made the play even more awesome. By far my favorite show, this and Les Mis :D

  • "I'd be so happy I could melt" major dramatic irony...

  • the first song to have me yearing to sing at the top of my lungs in a long long time

  • 666 likes. swag.

  • Now after seeing the Musical with the OBC how can you cast anyone else for the Movie???? Hollywood thinks that they are" too old"! What Eva

  • Anybody else notice that at the end, she sings "the wizard... ANNN LYYYYYYYYYY"?

  • @JordiekinsxxReal Yep, Seth Rudetsky talked about that when he did his deconstruction video on Idina!

  • @JordiekinsxxReal Singers sometimes make words sound weird together, but theres usual contextual reasons. She she pronounced the "anD I", it would sound like "the wizard, AN DIEEEEEEEE!". So that may be a reason.

  • @mikeyemon Yeah, and she sang the last note straight forever, which is completely crazy. So no beef with Idina for me.

  • i really dont understand why musicals are so amazing. dancing, singing, and acting haha. its almost lame. but theres...i guess you can call it magic in it.

  • i want to play as elphaba someday but I just cant reach the notes! thumbs up if youre in thesame situation

  • @broadwayaddicted My one dream in life is to play elpheba and if u sing the song at least 6 times a day for 3 months u can reach them (i know from experience. im an alto and i did it)

  • this is one of t he best shows i have ever seen just listening to it givees me gose bumps

  • Another layer to the irony ehr0 mentions: not only is it ironic that she predicts a celebration that will turn out to be a celebration of her death, not her life, but that WE have celebrated this ourselves every time we watched The Wizard of Oz. I remember seeing this show the first time and hearing Idina holding that last note, so full of hope and joy, and suddenly remembering "Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead." The whole point of Wicked is encapsulated in that moment for me.

  • If i get 100 thumbs up, I'll do this song for my school talent show!

  • @Beep12gurl exactly 100

  • @Beep12gurl Good luck :P

  • I really think this is Idina Menzel's signature song out of all the Wicked songs. Even more so than Defying Gravity. I can really hear the joy in her voice when she's singing this...

  • Oh and 5 people are losers:)

  • Her voice just makes wanna cry its so beautiful. In a small, VERY SMALL, way i'm almost glad i didn't see her live because my mascara would be dripping to the floor. <3

  • itsss amazinggg i got chills !!! and betwin 4:23 and 4:33 i ifill like crying !

  • YOU AND ME, BUT MOSTLY MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • love this song

  • i think anyone who dislikes ANY wicked songs are just in really bad moods.....

  • this musical is amazing......but if i saw it a million times would not get tired of it

  • wow its amazing how different she is in the book. She HATES the wizard in the book, and in this she LOVES him. Am I the only one who kind of liked her better in the beginning of the book than the the musical, she's much funnier. HORRORS!

  • @helencheddar

Eh...don't know which I like better (me thinks the musical :p sorry), but I agree about the Horrors! I pictured it absolutely adorable. Teh most goodlier, proudliest, swankafied little thing EVAR!!! Is so cute--of course my friends were freaked out when I kept saying horrors for the rest of the day, and my other friend who was reading the book found the creature she was sitting on while she said it was freaky haha but I loved its creepyness. :3

  • Thsi song is amazing. i have to sin it for issma. (singing competiton) happines!! :D

  • @NessaRulz21 Is it really that hard to write with proper grammar and spelling?

  • @ToriMtime Lol im sry. i didn't mean too. that was an accident.

  • @ToriMtime They're just using the same type of grammar that Nessa uses, "Me and Boq" for example...

  • @Mitch52495 Im sorry!!!!! it was an accident! i really use good grammar. it was one time okay?! Sorry....

  • (but mostly I)

  • can you say "foreshadowing"?!

  • on the 20th of july i'm going to see it!! ahh!! can't wait!!

  • OMG The Book of Mormon totally ripped on this song

  • nice racism against munchkins elphaba.

  • "But I swear, someday there'll be a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me!"

"I'd be so happy, I could melt!"

"When people see me, they will scream!"

Oh, those parts make me cry.

  • @taylor13loveswift they're so ironic it's great.

  • you are awesome kikki5183! i've had this playlist on all day at work today and i am in a much better mood than normal and the day is going by super fast! Go wicked!!!!!

  • I'm singing in the musical wicked for my vocal school.

    I'M PLAYING ELPHABA!!!!! <3 :) :D

  • You know, listening to Madam Morrible at the start just makes me realize even more how awesome Idina is :)

  • I love this one!

  • ugh, those depressingly ironic lyrics.

    "i'll be so happy i could...MELT!" *sigh*

  • @freshPrincess626 'and they'll be a celebration throughout oz thats all to do with me'

    as in her death

    love wicked<3

  • Just listening to this makes me want to cry! Im sooo gonna keep up with dance n drama i want to be in WICKED sooo bad :')

  • 0:48 to skip Morrible

  • I bloody want to see this! I love this musical soooooooooo muchly! <3

  • I just wrote ' Wizard ' on youtube and by luck I opened this song, its just so amazing... like freakin' cool

  • who here actually read the book before hearing about the musical? =)

  • @akjg98 Nope. I have the book now though, and I also have Son of a Witch and A Lion Among Men. I really wish I HAD heard of the book beforehand, because when I was reading it for the first time, I was expecting so many things to happen that never did (Like Boq being the tinman in the musical, for instance). On my second reading of the book, I found it a lot ore enjoyable. :)

  • @akjg98 I heard about the musical, then read the book, then saw the musical.

  • @latigremusic The musical is so different from the book!

  • @awsomeLilshorty I know. They are really different. They are both great in their on right.

  • @akjg98 I have all three of the series plus some of his other works. He is totally awesome!

  • If only the libretto was as awesome as the music...

  • I was obbessed with this show before I saw, I saw it and I am even more in love now!

  • Does she meet the Wizard???

  • @seamusshaymish

    *SPOILERRR IF ANYONE CARES*

    yah she does...kinda a huge disappointment though. He basically lets morrible try to kill her when she won't do his bidding >>;;

  • @seamusshaymish lol, yes she does.

  • @taylor13loveswift

    Yeah I read the book.lol. Bad Wizard.lol.

  • @seamusshaymish Yeah, he's pretty stupid. Hooks up with Elphie's mom and then tries to have Elphie killed. lol, dummy.

  • The part that always gets me is "but i swear someday there'll be a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me!" because she thinks it'll be a celebration for HER when it is a celebration for HER DEATH. The irony in this song! I can't understand how anyone cannot love Wicked after seeing it! I just cannot!

  • @ehr0 A celebration that's all to do with me So happy I could MELT When people see me they will scream. Hints are all over the place, and it's kinda sad to hear such a hopeful young girl sing and you get that forefeeling of doom.

  • @bltsdsubbie EXACTLY! That's what I'm saying. I'll be singing along to the song, and almost want to break down and cry when I hear it. Almost. For Good is the one that will actually make me cry tears of joy and sadness.

  • @ehr0 Also, "When people see me they will scream!"

They do scream.... Just in fear.

  • @SuprHro321 Not to mention "What I've waited for since . . . well, since BIRTH!" and "I'm so happy I could melt!"

  • @ehr0

100TH THUMBS UP! YAY ME! :DD

    AND I AGREE!

  • @ehr0 No spoilers!!!

  • I'll make good too

  • Can you spell 'foreshadowing'?

  • I hate the irony of this song. It makes it that much more tragic.

  • Highest rated comment, ftw.

  • I'm so happy I could... MELT

  • AMAZING! I love this song so much.

  • Very few things in this world are perfect. But Wicked is one of those things.

  • i love this song.! and i love Idina's voice!!!

  • I'd consider it more foreshadowing than irony. "So happy I could melt!"

"A celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me!"

"When people see me they will scream"

  • @Calzified It's not foreshadowing when the audience already knows... unless you've never seen the Wizard of Oz, you know that Elphaba is going to "melt" and she'll be the most feared person in Oz... and the musical starts with a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with her.

  • @MegaKaitouKID1412

Have you seen the musical? the melting was fake.

She pretended to melt and then lived happily ever after with the scare crow.

  • @OfcourseItsBee

I haven't; I've only read the book. :) But I do know she doesn't melt in the musical... and going into the musical you DO think she's actually going to melt unless somebody spoiled it.

That doesn't change the fact that it's Dramatic Irony, not foreshadowing.

  • my love for theater grew.

  • @halliezmandy Well those 5 won't be going to dear old Wiz then.

  • Five people are totaly retarded

  • Dramatic Irony: This musical is FULL of it.

  • @MegaKaitouKID1412 Don't forget made up words!! :-)

  • It is so sad how she thought she would be de-greenified and other stuff and she was not.

    =/ bommer

  • 5 People will never fly high

  • There was a celebration over her...death.

  • Ohhhh so much foreshadowing and irony in this song :<

    poor poor Elphaba. . . . . .

It's as ironic as Dancing Through Laugh T-T

  • my fav wicked song :)

  • @emlodik No rhyming scheme? Seriously?

...did you even listen to the song?

  • @emlodik I bet your favorite musical is Avenue Q.

  • @AlmightyHighElf Pathetic. Go look up "Elisabeth." (Yes, there were other Elisabeths beside Elizabeth I, you nincompoop.)

  • @AlmightyHighElf Whats wrong with Avenue Q? Don't dis it, u probably don't even know it! It's hysterical!

  • @snowyangel97 Actually I did see it, before I saw Wicked even- About a year ago? Yeah, it's uh... Pretty much the second worst musical I have ever seen. Sorry if you enjoyed it, but I sorta feel like.. If you're going to offend me, you better be clever, and Avenue Q was not. I laughed more during Wicked than I did during Avenue Q, and Wicked isn't even a comedy- It just has genuine humor.

I also dislike it because in the 2005 Tonys it beat Wicked because the producers paid money =/

  • @AlmightyHighElf In some ways u urself shud be quite concerned about ur personality if u laughed more in Wicked than Avenue Q, yes there is alot of humour in Wicked, but it depends which parts. Avenue Q is made to make u laugh more than anything else. Wicked was given a real big story to show, and i feel that it did. If u laughed more during Wicked, there's something there my friend. I do agree Avenue Q shouldn't of beat Wicked in the Tony's, but oh well, Wicked will get 'em next time. Have Hope

  • @AlmightyHighElf Wait... what's the first worst musical you've ever seen?

  • when she say "i could melt..." i can feel the irony

  • @araxx020 Lol, i felt the irony there too, but then i listened closer and heard when she says there'll be a celebration all about her, the celebration is really all about her death so very sad tbh. But we think alike, when i first heard this song, i pciked up on the "I could melt!" Before the celebration. :)))

  • I love this song so much

  • "I'm so happy I could melt!"

    More foreshadowing!! ...

  • So many sady ironic songs. I love them all!

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter"

  • I Love it

  • is it just me or do they unlimited like 500 times in this play??

i was listening to the soundtrack and i just started noticing that

  • @chikayako yeah, mee too (:

  • Is it just me or so they unlimited like 5000 times in this musical????

  • Idina Menzel, is there anything you can't do?

    (No, no there isn't).

  • @byranntherockstar1 I like this, but... well, I don't know about you, I don't exactly want to form an alliance with the Wizard either... :/

  • It's funny how this song and "Dancing Through Life" become really sad once you know the entire play...

  • I wish I had Idina's voice. It's so flawless. She's great. And this song is probably my favorite.. it just makes me so so sad. :(

  • SHES AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • funny thing is when i was little and saw the wizard of oz i always thought there was something suspicious about the wizard

  • @RandomVidGal Well, you find out at the end of the Wizard of Oz that he's a fraud, so that wasn't really a secret. :)

  • @mimmar3891 Gee, when you say it like that it sounds a lot less clever though... Lol :)

Yeah I mean most people like the Wizard even after they show hes a fake...I think I kinda hated him after that part...Idk it was a while ago.

  • "A celebration through all of Oz that's all to do with me..."

Well, I guess the celebration did not go quite as planned.

  • @ICanHazFezonn Yeah this is the most ironic song EVER.

  • sooooooo, I'm reading the book right now. Is the musical the same storyline of the book or did they just skip the part about when she's born? sorry if i sound like i'm asking a stupid question, but i just wanna know. i wanna see the broadway musical SO BAD!!!

  • @StuffedSuperstars In the musical, you see her being born at the very start in "No One Mourns the Wicked"

  • @mrmaccerz Thanks so much! ;D

  • @StuffedSuperstars During "No One Mourns the Wicked" Elphaba's birth is featured in a sort of flashback (the entire play is a frame story). It's very brief though. A lot was cut out from the book.

  • Poor Elphaba. She's so excited. What the wizard did was no better then telling a six-year-old child that their is no Santa (which there is!) first thing Christmas morning!

  • The 'wizard' is a huge jerk-bomb! Who's with me!

  • is anybody else madly in love with Wicked?

  • @starburstnoway

im not in love with it..im obsessed with it! when i went to see it i cried;)xxxx
