  • Simply stunning! All I can say.

  • I went to Toronto in 99 to see this, it was AMAZING!

  • @cyndikiss1

I agree. I think it was completely amazing! I don't understand the people who didn't enjoy Paul's performance. :)

  • Paul has a great voice, but horrible acting. Yeah, Gene has a great voice and he's a better actor (The Demon, hello?), but he would've butchered this part. If there had to be any rocker, it would have to be Paul

  • @UrukHai659

Gene is a horrible actor. I adore him but he is painfully horrible. ;)

  • Yep, still sucked

  • Kiss is one thing, Phantom is another. I cant stand the sound of a gay Phantom with a horrible list. That, and his acting, oh yea, there is none. I'd rather have seen Gene Simmons as Phantom than Paul Stanley

  • @svoteary Then tell your boyfriend to stop singing to the soundtrack! Maybe you should see the Phantom before you decide ther is no acting/stage emoting needed.

And it is called a LISP not a list!!! Only a diaper wetting lego jockey would spell that wrong and also mistake a new york accent with a lisp. Try intelligent thoughts before posting next time.

  • That was lovely. His version is outstanding. I wish he would record it in the studio with a full orchestra.

  • he sucks

  • Interesting. He didn't butcher the "be!" as he did in the other video. I wonder how consistent he was in his run as Phantom.

  • @MenaceFan ...consistant enough to be asked back for the end run of the production

  • 3:01 is the sweet spot. Oh yes. I knew he had that note in him!!! :D

  • @wouldntyoulike2know: that's a mere G#, pretty easy for a guy who has often sang high B's, C#'s and D's.

    It's not about notes, dude.

  • @maferreira1984 Have some respect please, I am not a dude. And also I think you misunderstood me. I don't think I care so much about the "notes" in terms of his vocal range, as much as I care about a well sung note inside of his song.

  • hmmmmmmm rock and roll all night to music of the night??? wat a strange switch lol but he is great

  • to hell with G.Butler, and A.Banderas, Starchild OWNS!!!!!!!!

  • No as bad as people say but i wouldn't exactly call it good either.. :)

  • how many people are coughing??!

  • @etimeanna Just the rude ignorant people

  • I traveled to Toronto to see him in it! I thought he was great!

  • @KISS1975 Me too!! I flew up from Chicago & saw a Sat night show & the Sunday matinee

  • Lucky Canadians! I would have loved to see Paul as the Phantom, he's so incredible! (And such a ham!)

Haha, I really hope he gets to reprise the role...and maybe get it professionally taped, like they do sometimes on Broadway? He'd make a fortune on it! <3 I'd buy!

  • @SwiftnSly13 I was fortunate enough to see him in the production... What an amazing performance... He was so excited to get the opportunity to be in it that he put everything he had into it... One of the best shows ever!!!

  • I remember buying tickets for Phantom when it was in Toronto at the Pantages. We didn't know Paul Satnley was starring until we drove up there(from Ohio-6 hours away). It was awesome-especially all the Kiss Army in the audience. The man did a great job. Bravo

  • I'm very glad you posted this. I saw Paul live in the role and he was amazing. He deserves better regard than what most people give him. Thank you for posting the "good version"

  • I knew he was a good singer, but I didn't think his style would fit well with this. But he pulls it off.

It's the combination of two of my favorite things.

  • good for (stanley eisen) aka paul stanley of kiss. ive been a fan of kiss since the beginning (1970)before they had an album out. we all get older and move on to new venture's , and i will go see this i i have the chance to

  • man, Paul has never lost his chops after over 40 years of singing...

  • Wow.! I remember i was obsessed with phantom of the opera , then kizz. this is two of my favorites mixed together! :D

  • @TheWickedLollipop2 it's Kiss, not kizz :)

  • @Grumlin92 Yeah yeah whatever. It's just the the two zz look like the two lightning bolt s' for your information

  • does anyone have accessto the entire cd of his performance they could upload

  • I wish I could have seen this!!!

  • He Almost Sounds like Bowie, in spots.

  • I just love the sound of his voice: one of a kind.

  • @DannyGlumsPhan Yup, fantastic singer. Check out his vocal range video in Youtube, insane high notes!

  • I love paul stanley in kiss and i am glade they got back together but i never thought that he would be the pantom of the opera.

  • This is awesome....thanks for sharing it.

  • This was the only version of the play was able to see. I had heard recordings of the songs, and knew some of the calibre that had came before, and was so happy I got to see his take on the Phantom.

  • oh my O___O

seriously awesome, his highs are just flawless

  • I know that Paul Stanely Is not likely to ever read this. But it was KISS that made me love theature, and it was the Phantom of the Opera that became an obsession of mine when I was a kid. I was in Toronto when you did this, and I should have been there, but I was in church at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship instead. I am sorry that I missed this once in a life time opportunity. I love you very much.

  • i cant notice him through that half mask the guys always wears

  • 2:19: Scary Voice!

  • Wow!! I DID Know Paul was classically trained---But, This requires A LOT!!!! Paul did well here....but, HE isn't an opera singer, so remember----IT won't sound like David Foster!!!!!!!

  • ...not workin for me. Way too much vibrato and breaths in between words. MC FOR LIFE!!!

  • @Dirschbag Colm > Crawford

  • I love Paul as the voice of The Phantom he's my fav. (and I'm not just saying that because I'm obsessed with Paul) but I also liked Gerard Butler, I thought both of them combined was a hell of a lot better than Crawford. Crawford is great, don't get me wrong. But for me his voice is too high for The Phantom. And I know he is the original. But DAMN Paul is AMAZING!

  • i thought Gerard Butler was really good as the Phantom. however im quite pleased at how Paul Stanley handled this

  • Is that Paul singing?

  • @myway43 Gee...you think?

  • He's pretty good, but Anthony Warlow is the best Phantom.

  • I saw him performance in Toronto a few years back ^^ he's a awesome Phantom of the Opera!

  • His real name is STANLEY HARVEY EISEN.....just like Gene's real name is CHAIM WITZ. Tommy's real name is....TOMMY THAYER.....and Eric's real name is ERIC MENSINGER.

  • @MrEODTEK Paul has said many times over the years that "Harvey" is not his middle name. That's one of the things that soemone someplace years ago said is true, and it has stuck., notwithstanding direct refute from Paul Stanley himself.

  • I LOVED IT!!!!!!

  • ugly and ridicolous as ever..

  • Paul Stanley is one of the greatest vocalists in rock history, and repeatedly snubbed by the so-called pundits and experts. Anyone who's heard what he can do live singing with KISS won´t be a bit surprised that he could shine in this role. There is no rock vocalist in history with greater sheer power. He can hold notes at full volume forever. Listen to him sing "I Still Love You" and if you're not impressed, you must have something against the guy ,which seems strangely common for some reason.

  • @koochyman PREACH!!!!!!!!!

KISS is my favorite band ever, and I love paul as a singer. though I have to admit, he can't quite hold a candle to Freddie Mercury. but then again, no one really can. so that's not insult at all towards Paul

  • @koochyman I would argue that Freddie Mercury had a better voice than Stanley. Yet Mercury was an absolute miracle. Yet Paul has a fine voice as well. He and Freddie are probabaly the best rock vocalists in rock history.

  • @gasmmusic I would also add Geoff Tate from Queensryche in that list

  • Paul Stanley sorprendente!!!!! Eres el mejor!!!!

  • I've always thought he had a really strong voice with a lot of range... I'd say this proves it.

  • I never knew he can sing like that, I'm actually REALLY surprised lol its cause I'm use to "I REALLY LOVE YOU BABY! I LOVE WHAT YOU GOT! LETS GET TOGETHER WE CAN...GET HOT!!" lol

  • THe worst phantom of ever

  • @MrPoto00

I think that you don't Know Nothin about other Phantoms ...¿do you have a lot of productions of this musical really?

  • @davizzz

I saw three different phantom: John Cudia, Gary mauer and David Shannon and are better than stanley

  • Agreed. The other videos of him are pretty terrible. I DID see him in the show in Toronto and honestly he was much, much better than the Youtube videos. He wasn't all pitchy and slurred sounding. I'm not a Stanley or KISS fan AT ALL but admit he did a good job as the Phantom.

  • I wish I could have seen this! :,(

  • Quite extraordinary! What a fantastic version!

  • YES PAUL STANLEY ARE MULTIFACETIC, AND PERFECT ACTOR!!!

  • what year was this?

  • @THEEND123321 1999

  • That other video does not do him justice. He is really amazing. Anybody would struggle to hit the note of "Be" night after night. Go ahead and try we'll wait here to see if your brave enough to post it!

  • @wowthatsbad What is this note of "Be"???? I am not getting it!!!

  • yes, this is THE paul stanley of KISS

  • I always liked Paul's voice from the time I first heard him in Kiss. But who knew the guy had pipes like this?! Excellent and totally beyond what I expected! Great job, Paul!

  • It's so.....soft:D

Where is the: ,,Hey people let me hear yaaaa, how do you feeeeeeel?":D:D

  • as a 19 year old musician and kiss fan this is one of the most inspirering moments in my life , paul is awsome

  • I'm just waiting for him to shout "ya'll ready to rock and roll!" haha

  • yep Paul Stanley from KISS...he does a pretty good job of it too...I still prefer Michael Crawford, he will always be the Phantom to me... but Paul still does a decent rendition.

  • No F**king way... this HAS to be a rib, is it still April Fools? Paul Stanley is actually..... GOOD at Phantom? The hell? How in the blue hell did that happen? Did David Tennant just drop me on a mirror universe?

  • Ok, I'm confused is this THE paul stanley, the paul stanley from KISS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • @MichaelKulow Yes

  • @DestinationHome Yes it is. I have the entire show on DVD. He does an awesome job!!

  • @DestinationHome Oh, gosh!!! Thats weired!. But he is operatically trained, so it does make sense

  • @MichaelKulow yep, the one and only starchild as the phantom.

  • @MichaelKulow Yes The only and only Kiss Front man

  • @MichaelKulow Yes, THAT Paul Stanley. Cool, huh? :) I think he did a great job here... So powerful, in my opinion!

  • @FrehleyCriss888 Yeah, Youtube says It didn't make it on here!!! Its amazing!!!!!!!!

  • @MichaelKulow Yep the one and only Mr. Stanley

  • @pstanley99 This is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MichaelKulow He liked to do opera aswell his voice suits it

  • This sounds great but i think Gerard Butler doing it better!

  • He is not that bad, but he still isn't good enough

  • Michael Crawford was Condor Man!

    ^_^

  • His half-mask should been black.

  • @Holdenon3 Naw...should have a star on the right eye, hehe :o)

  • @Holdenon3 and actually, I met him the next day outside the theatre...and he was wearing a beret that had the phantom mask with a star on it, lol. I thought about stealing it from him lol.

  • paul stanley has a cool mask it partially covers his over eyebrow

  • if u know the story of the musical: the Phantom is not supposed to be a singer. hes a composer n considering that, Paul Stanley is perfect ;)

  • Hmm, disagree. The Phantom preforms as Don Juan in his own opera. Therefore he had to be a pretty darn good singer. Also in the book he was a singer, composer, architecht, magician, and could play just about any instrument. Slightly unrelated but still pretty cool. :]

  • @JuniorDaniels Actually in the original novel the Phantom is supposed to have been pretty much the greatest singer in the world, so good that just by hearing him you'd become a better singer/musician. Although, Paul isn't that, IMHO, he still did pretty good, and he was better than Gerard Butler.

  • holy shit.................

  • Really really good in places.

  • wow yeah he does much better in this recording. not horrible but certainly not the best but his soar was great and even his be was good

  • The Man is Amazing! Could never tell he is deaf in his right ear! Thanks for posting!

  • Well, that was surreal.

  • I agree with you 5000%. There are certain people that should not be in musicals... Paul Stanley ranks at the top of that list for me.

  • Agree with both of you, and I feel sorry for the people who get their panties in a bunch because they disagree with our opinions.. but then again, I adore opera and Phantom and therefore think Erik should sound like a bona fide freaking OPERA SINGER, unlike even Michael Crawford.

  • Wow, It's a lot better then I thought. I seriously thought I'd be crying from fail from this, but I'm happy to say otherwise. It isn't perfect but heck, its better then Butler. *claps*

  • @greenappletea123

    I must dispute that.

Crawford is still the best, but I prefer Butler to Stanley.

  • @SavageBroadcast

No doubt he was the best (not my favorite though....), but I'm one of the few that believes Butler was more just a pretty boy, rather then a good Phantom. He has his perks though.

  • @greenappletea123 butler just needed more training, he wasnt bad necessarily, he just wasnt quite what the phantom is supposed to be.

  • @SavageBroadcast

    I agree 100%

  • @greenappletea123 lol when i was the movie i thought at first it was bill murray lol thats besides the point...but for gerard ya know for an "angel of music" wasnt really that angelic about it

  • @greenappletea123 paul stanley is a classically trained singer. so is sebastian bach. this is one of the reasons why they have pursued musical theater in the past. that and they were legitimately interested in it. youd be surprised by how many rock and metal singers love stuff like this and can sing it well.

  • @greenappletea123 Anyone that isn't Bulter is better than Butler. This guy's awesome.

  • lol true true

  • Oh My god that lisp Though 2:13

Auopan up youh Mihnd let youh phantosthies Uohwind.

  • he sings great, but he's not as attractive as Butler.

  • at least Paul Stanley Can sing.

  • and he has a Funny Lisp. LOL

  • Wow He is rather Creepy Looking in A phantomy Way.

That V shaped Mob head, Bulgeing Eyes.

  • Well the Phantom was supposed to be creepy :P

  • I also think it is pretty good! Obviously not Michael Crawford, but Paul gave it a good shot. Butler was terrible and should stick to action flicks.

  • I think this sounds pretty good! from the phantom movies ive seen this sounds so Phantom eske!

  • He still blows

  • The crucial thing that Paul is missing, which when you listen to him is evident, is the fact that he cannot emote and act. There is no feeling behind his vocals. Its like watching a heart monitor, the line bounces up and down, but there is no connection to it. Stick to rock dude. Sides, the only reason Paul did Phantom is because Gene was in the works for his tv show

  • Excuse me, but what TV show would that be? That's not the reason Paul did Phantom. Paul did Phantom becasue he wanted to do Phantom. If you know everything, please enlighten me, what TV show was Gene doing in the summer and fall of 1999? If you say Gene SImmons Family Jewels, you'd be six years too early, pal.

I witnessed a Paul perfomance of Phantom. It was a great perfomance. It wasn't Michael Crawford, but was it supposed to be?

  • @deuce1231

I was not referring to the "Jewels" show. Gene has been around for a very long time.

Paul however, as much of a rocker as he might be, is not Broadway material and should not have disgraced himself nor the Toronto production with his below standards rendition.

Paul wanted to do Phantom as a skit to try to regain some credibility in his dwindling career. By the way, where is Paul today? hm, just as I suspected, gone by way of yesterday.

  • You still didn't answer the question. What TV show was Gene involved in that kept KISS from doing anything, sending Paul to Toronto to do Phantom? That IS your inference.

And where IS Paul? KISS just finished the Alive 35 world tour and recently released a new album (Sonic Boom). As for Paul, he released a solo album in 2006, toured behind it, released a DVD of the Chicago show (I was there and I'm on the DVD) and he's been painting (I own one). Gone by way of yesterday? Are you high?

  • Wow you have all the answers to yer own questions dont ya?

  • good but, butler killed it in the andrew lloyd webber film .... stick to detroit rock city holmes..

  • he´s a real god

LIVE TO WIN Paul Stanley (Y)

  • This is way better than the video version, but still not that great. It sort of sounds like this was recorded at a high school choir concert.

  • That's becasue it's sourced form a tape recorder smuggled in to the theater.

  • I was talking about the performance quality, not the sound quality. He's okay, but not that great.

  • his vocals are wicked... i wish i could sing like that

  • He's pitchy and strident. Can't say I'm a fan of his vocals : /

  • Wow... that's incredible. I wish Paul had been the phantom in the movie instead of Butler...

  • This is really great I love it.

  • "Music" is one of the easier solemn /pieces...(I am a fan, don't get me wrong) can you post another one?? That would be great if you can..Thanks for this also

  • Thanks for putting this up dude .
