Seems like there are some who are missing the point. This was the dawn of the folk rock boom, when the protagonists of those two major musical genres began to realize that they were on the same page and joined forces to produce a lot of great music. This is no more of an affront to folk music than is Bob Dylan's so-called "electric period" or the Byrds' first two albums. It's all good!!
@MikeBlitzMag Exactly, Jill just offered to fill in for Jeremy while he was acting in a play in London "Passion Flower Hotel''. She didn't sing badly, she just has a weak voice. But not bad for someone who was not a professional singer. She was a model with the Ford Modeling Agency.
This is why rock is lame. It turns everything into a silly spectacle. The folk group peter paul and mary have a version that is beyond superior not only in quality of recording but also in performance.
@weenaut Speaking as a fan of both rock and folk, rock is defiantly better live. With folk music, people just sit around. Rock concerts have a live, pulsing spirit. The fools in this video aren't good examples of this.
That was Hullabaloo! Season 2, Episode 11 – Aired: 11/29/1965 and the host for that episode WAS Michael Landon "the chap who starred in The Little House on the Prairie"
That's Jan's old girl friend!!!!!!!!!! That is, Jan Berry of Jan and Dean. And she replaced Michelle Phillips in the Mamas and Papas for awhile. Now is a well established and respected artist in Northern California.
This rockish version of the song is interesting, but I prefer the slow version, because after all this is a song about war, and war isn't something to be happy about.
She looks scared to death!

@crawfish999 Men should never let the woman sing lead. Impeccable harmony though. Actually spectacular.
