Thats one of my all time favorite movies even today. Very cool your uncle was a main character and that you were a part of it! Would have loved to meet this guy he's a great singer and actor! thanks for sharing this great old song
i was 4 years old when the movie Six Pack came out. And if you remember the little boy that sang the song " Rocky Top" in the movie, that's my uncle...Benji Wilhoite. I remember meeting Kenny Rogers and the whole cast and crew of the movie!!!! Kenny I will forever be grateful for you!!!!!

the lyrics are wrong in this song. It should read: "its your mind that tricks you INTO LEAVING everytime." Not believing. That doesn't even make sense to what the song is about.
I ride my "high horse" because of queers like you that are here because of a goddamn nascar commercial. Or if this song "spoke to you" during an episode of eastbound and down.
Just for the record I also believe it's ~leaving everytime~, thats why on the next bit of lyrics in the same verse he states ~It's your heart that talks you into ("staying") where you are~. So in other words, your minds tricking you into leaving but your hearts talking you into staying. Yada, Yada Yada, I'm done. ~Peace and God Bless~
@tsw0804 ...... the lyrics are " That tricks you in believin' every time"........ NOT " tricks you into leaving every time." i should know.....i was there when the song originally came out back in 1982 and was there when the movie premiered in Atlanta, Ga. I met the man and the cast and crew of the movie b/c of my uncle being in it.
Why do people ride their high horse when they've heard the song before a particular television show or commercial used it?
Music reaches us many different ways, and I commend the people that simply enjoy this song, for whatever their reason may be. 66 likes and 0 dislikes? Way to go Kenny.
ESPN has a good commercial with everyone wanting Jeff Gordon's # 24...with the background music being this song. But I'm so old I remember and like this song a lot.

@comooch Given how far Nascar has fallen since 2004 and the fact that ESPN cares nothing for it(nor really should they), I don't believe the person who picked it has the faintest clue of the Nascar connection. I think it was just a random accident that this song was used in a Nascar commercial and has an actual connection to it.
@yojoeski Are you serious?? Do you really believe A billion dollar company would unknowingly pick a song from a movie about a race car driver for a Nascar spot ? Hell, that ad is the reason I found this on YouTube. Anyone who grew up with HBO in the early eighties knows where that song is from. I hate Nascar , but I think it's brilliant that they used this song in that ad.
Easily his best, I agree with you guys. It takes us all back in time and is still strong, the signs of a phenom hit. He was a master of his universe in his day!

I have a fair number of favorites from Mr. Kenny Rogers through his career, but this fun ballad is #1 on MY list!

Great song. Searched for this after hearing it on Eastbound and Down. This song is proof that Kenny Rogers doesn't just roast a good chicken!
