  • This made me cry, I watched the video with one of the passengers recording it from a ferry, must be horrible expericance....

  • This is the saddest music I've ever heard.

  • Good naval skills they seems to have in Greece. How long did they have the ship before it sunk? A couple of months. Next time im in Greece i must remember to not take a boat trip.

  • Lol everyone made it off but 2 people went missing, it took 2 days to sink and it hardly sank all the way!

  • I bet whoever insured this vessel is more than a little pissed off

  • I used to travel on this ship when I was young and it was still in service up in Scandinavia. I clearly remember sitting in the bow lounge, looking out of those tall, two-story windows at the spinning radar beam....

    D3

  • @DDdreamer90 Yea...I have been on the Princess a multitude of times

  • um did anyone die this is th fist i hered off this

  • @PXPGamingHD Two people went missing. They're presumably dead by now :(

  • I was on this ship a week before it went down. I was young, but I remember it.

  • id love to stay on a sinking ship til the very last minute just for fun

  • If I knew the boat was sinking so slowly I would have stolen everything with value.

  • It's sad :(

  • strange isnt it-u dont tend to think of ships like that, new and modern, sinking.

  • @tom201090, a ship built in the 80s is not "new and modern".

  • @tupsumato actually it is because most ships around these days were built earlier than the 60's. so 80's is considered new and modern.

  • @iluv2swimbutterfly, considering the average service life of 25 years for most ships, it's highly unlikely that "most ships" around today were built in the 60s. Even ships built in the early 90s are sold for scrap in these days. Ships older than that are already a minority - most ships currently in service were built in the 90s and 2000s.

For passenger ships there's also SOLAS 2010 which has removed most old passenger ships from international service.

  • @tupsumato ships take years, and by years i mean years, to build... all the ships i know started construction in the late 80s and didn't finish until the mid 90s...

  • @iluv2swimbutterfly, the building time depends on the ship and the shipyard. Large and complex cruise ships like the Oasis of the Seas might take up to two years to build, but more "simple" cargo ships are considerably faster. In serial production the construction time of an average cargo freighter might be just some months.

Of course if the shipyard has some problems, then the building time might be considerably longer. I know some ships that were never completed.

  • @tupsumato you realize it took a lot longer than two years to build OoftheS..? the point is a ship built in the 80's is still considered new and modern. now you're just trying to get off topic..

  • @iluv2swimbutterfly, OotS was laid down on 12 November 2007 and delivered on 28 October 2009, so when taking into account the construction of the first blocks I'd say two years is a pretty good estimate.

While there hasn't been any dramatic changes in ship design since the 80s, I still wouldn't call over 20 year old ships "new and modern". Most of them are past the midpoint in their service life and many have already been scrapped. There have been many improvements in, for example, safety.

  • it doesnt come for sizes....the big one carries 25 ppl. the small one that looks like a boat carries just 10... the name of the big one that looks Orange house is Liferaft

  • where is superman now!!! :))

  • what do liferafts do...are you fucking serious?

  • what are those orange and black things floating around at 1:16???

  • @TheTylermader those are the Liferafts

  • @zaphod1beeblebrox What do they do?

  • @TheTylermader they keep you alive in the high seas... most of them are from 4 to 8 people, judging by the size of it. They have flashers and basic sea survival gear.

  • theres a good chance the captain is getting fired!

  • I start crying now! :(

  • jag med, många fina minnen från Birka =/

  • gia na kserete kai na min lete malakies. o idioktitis tou ploiou me tin asfaleia pire alla dio tetoia ploia. valte to mialo sas na doulepsei tora gia to ti paixnidia paizontousan ;)

  • @ga7 poia einai ta onomata ton ploion pou pire?

  • I was aboard the sister ship on that cruise tour, we took on a considerable number of evacuated Sea Diamond passengers. That was some scary shit, man. Watching a ship sink only yards away....

  • @LoveMyHorseShazam wow ....

  • THIS IS WHAT HAPPEN IF A FEMALE DRIVE THE BOAT !!

  • @timevinfire101 hey asshole, its not called "driving"

  • Thats was very sad to see :( I have a lot of fun memories of this ship when it was cruising between Stockholm and Åland. R. I. P. Birka Princess i will never forget you....

  • 1:19 it thows up a life jacket blughh

  • @Bossness123 its a life raft not a life jacket

  • @Bossness123 nah just pointing that out that either its a life jacket for a giant or its one of those other life rafts that have been dragged down and crushed under the water, and its pretty obvious

  • when ships like this one sink, do they just abandon the ships, or do they try to pull it out of the water later?? Anybody know?

  • @jklfds85 They try there best to save the ship before it sinks, after it sinks they just abandon it... Wouldn't mind to go there one day and explore Sea Diamond after it sank :P

  • @jklfds85 u cant pull that thing out of the water!

  • :O that is soooo sad!

  • WTF ARE ALLTHOSE FLOATING THINGYS THAT LOOK LIKE CAT LITTER BOXES!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?1?!?!!!?!?!?!

  • @chaselegoman its so other ships know where its location is.

  • 1:33 - floating trailer park

  • Well the captain may not have gone down with the ship but I am pretty sure his career did

  • this boat was a big mistake from the captains this is my opinion but i believe they did it on purpuse so they get the insurance cause it wanted about 1 year to end as i ve read when i was young i remember this... sooo nothing special none died and next to it was an island greek ofc :))

  • I travelled on this cruise ship a year to the day that it sunk and I didn't find it hard to believe when i saw that it had sunk if you know what I'm saying.

  • its part of a plan we greeks have thought, so as to attract more scuba diving tourists!we sink them first, then tourists come to see!

  • its a new method we greeks have to attract more scuba diving tourists!we sink them first, then tourists come to see!

  • They're planning to salvage it and raise it up.

  • I hope all of those passengers had traveller's insurance!

  • what a waste of a nice ship.

  • so it took all NIGHT TO SINK??? HOLY SHIT!

  • after everyone was evacuated they might as well have planted a few torpedoes into the thing to make it sink faster... hell at least have some fun with it lol

  • thats last one was the princess of the stars

  • got to tell you ppl this my grandma was on that ship and she almost went down with the ship she was sleeping when the ship turned on its side and she is a heavy sleeper by the way and she said she woke up and say the boat sink i just found this out yesterday

  • @paddleball0 God, how long was she sleeping? The ship hit the reef and sank on two different days.

  • RIP Birka Princess (before she changed name to Sea diamond.

  • @CssGeteN123 you know what they say change the name of the ship it brings bad luck

  • was ppl on there??

  • @paddleball0 Yes, All but two got off safely.

  • i remember i watched this while my break, i was in the mess room of the costa mediterranea cruise line, everybody there was silent, i was thinking in all my fellow colleagues working as me in a cruise line, and also that i was not exempted of something like it. i do not work on board no more.

  • makes me cry

  • Why could they beached the ship to land? It was so close. Sea Diamond hit a bloody reef, there was time to beached her

  • it took all day to sink and yet they couldnt Save it? What??? they must have wanted it to sink.

  • @Imtherealsaturnsonic they couldnt have saved it. it was stuck on a coral reef. it must not have gaven away until the day after.

  • @nicothegreat795 No sorry go watch a few more videos, in the middle of the day the ship was Clearly Moving Backwards (as In Not Stuck). if you think they couldnt have save it, then you were fooled just like they wanted you to be!. they probably wanted it to sink to collect the insurance on it!.

  • "Wow, scary stuff"!

  • I just want to know why, if it took all day and night to sink, what the hell happened to the two that died.... Were they chained to a bulkhead or something?

  • @PowerWes they were wearing sea diamond Shoes, you know like concrete shoes.....lol

  • This video gives me the creeps

  • why didn't they try to save it before it got this bad? I saw another video of where it was barely in the water when it started sinking. They could have pulled it to shore and saved it.

  • @woodwind538 the problem with that is the almost vertical shore. She lies with her stern in almost 180 meters of water, though her bow is only 62 meters down. The calders in which she rests is 'bathtub-like'

  • R.I.P Sea Diamond / Birka Princess :'(<33333 Jag har åkt på Princess<3 (I've gotten Princess)

  • I Hope SOMEONE digs it out.. fix the hole and pump the water out when she shows her first signs on the water!

  • whats the song?

  • @GreekCthulhu This song its called Concierto De aranjuez!

  • @94sealover

    thank you!

  • how did the ship sink

  • @timevinfire101 she ran aground on some volcanic reefs.

  • how deep is it to the seafloor in that position?

  • who want to bet theres stil a black guy inside trying to loot peoples rooms

  • Comment removed

  • porque los cruceros tambien se hunden

  • if they where smart they towed it to a undeep place -.-

  • @Bram97310 not if it was full of water.

  • @Bram97310

If you were smart, you wouldn't have said that comment becuase they can't move a ship full of water already -.-

  • @Bram97310 if You had a brain you'd know that even if you tow a ship to a shallow place, the thing pulling it has to go over the shallow place first,

    yours,

    AHTS(s) captin smit

  • @Smithyards, on the other hand tugs generally have smaller draft than passenger ships, and it doesn't have to be that shallow - ten meters would be enough to prevent the ship from sinking.

  • @tupsumato still you have to take into account that the shes going to way a ton, so its going to take either a small army of harbour tugs or a few large AHTS ships to move her, and the AHTS ships tend to have a large draught, not to mention that the hole ship tends to lean backward when your pulling, and you may start to swerve all over the show if your not careful. Then you have to get the passengers off etc etc and find a shallow place in the first place

    yours,

    AHTS captin smit

  • @Smithyards, that's of course true. While you could do the job with a single medium-sized salvage tug if you weren't in a hurry, the ship is sinking and you simply don't have time to "take your time" with the ship...

  • how many times has that bloody ship sank because theres lots of vids of it sinking

  • @MoDz4uProductionz Only once, its just different views

  • :( cruse gone wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • they were close to the shore, i didn't think the ship was going to sink, the water shouldn't be that deep near shore.

  • @TheLegendandjaguar, yeah, it shouldn't be, but sometimes the people who build those islands just don't listen to common sense and we get insane underwater cliffs...

  • DID EVERYONE GET OUT????????

  • @rossesc Two French people were missing but all the other passengers were evacuated. The boat had 390 crew members and 1200 passengers. The boat sank because of a reef that was wrongly placed on the "sea maps".

  • What's up with the yellow tape around the Diamond? What happen to the ship that they couldn't tow her?

  • @SuperTitanicfreak, it's an oil boom that, in case of oil spilling from the tanks, limits the pollution.

  • the ship hit rocks or a reef

  • wow i never heard of this ship sinking

  • Did the captain go down with his ship? Or did I watch too much the Titanic movie?

  • @Pansdotter no he didnt´t , the captain is allowed to leave the ship, but he must be the last living person to leave

  • @markhellstone Ok, I didn't know that. Thanks for the information :)

  • @Pansdotter no problem :)

  • I'm still trying to figure out how it sank..

  • @y2ktodd-It struck a volcanic reef in shallow water. It was then towed out away not far from the shore where the listing would stabilize. The water tight doors were activated too late. Captain & others faced negligence,& pollution charges & fined $1.7 million. Passengers from the U.S. are still pursuing a lawsuit against them.

  • The ship sank in 5 hours i mean plenty of time to get a salvage boat out there

  • @jonesphillip25

especially since it's also near land

  • the two people who "died" appearently "died" for the the insurance...according to locals... everybody survived at the end...

  • @BeverinMaubach What!!!! insurance?

  • i was on sea diamond

  • Comment removed

  • omg :O

  • did anyone die when it sunk?

  • Comment removed

  • @Marinelladk Yes 2 people were never found.

  • @gobsbsdvfas True, but its still amazing! They had loads of time to evacuate..

  • having sunk in a giant super volcano, at least it will resurface one day?

  • Ships sink only because it is bussines....... You build a ship, you get your money back........ then you sink it... then you get insurance money :) Simple :D

  • its stay a life with TITANIC:(

  • it throws up a life jacket 1:19

  • Imagine, if we were to dive under there, we'll find alot of money!! HUHU! WHO WANTS TO JOIN ME??

  • @HassanLalalas i hear you cant dive on the sight....they wont allow..unless you went at night...and thats no fun...

  • id it slowley go down

  • Comment removed

  • Whoa, your actually getting that close to a ship sinking? It could suck you down into the ship and you would be trapped.

  • @polandpal97 ya aome of the life saving boats got under. if u notice

  • Man that is creepy !

  • It had a different name when Sweden had it....

  • When Sweden had this ship, I went on it two times. It was a partyboat, that made "one day and night" cruises.

  • i think titanic soundtrack is better for this video

  • Did any one die ?

  • @WadaZable two people are listed as missing, the bodies were never found. A scuba diver died whilst visiting the wreck. According to wikipedia.

  • @bitchswizzle1320 It was most likely a insurance scam as the boy and mum left quite happy

  • @bitchswizzle1320 actually the two people that were missing may have never been on the ship during the sinking. I have read some where that french family that had the two people missing the father and daughter never got back on board the ship. They said the family would always order four meals everyone night but when got to port two members of that family never reboard and the members did not reported them missing until after the sinking

  • Notice how recently it's always Greek cruise ships sinking and encountering problems. I wonder why that is.

  • @vissi87 it is made in finland and did belong to sweden before they sell it to greece =) so it isent greek :P

  • @dif94 Ok let me rephrase what I said. Notice how recent'y it's always ships owned by Greek cruise lines that are sinking and encountering problems.

  • @vissi87 The greeks are always sinking ships, I dont the reason for that... must be their slack maintenance standards...

  • I guess the Greeks don't make very good cruise ships >.>

  • what the fuck, they just sat there and watched it? It sank so slowly they could've towed it to shallow waters and saved people belonging and other things on board. Lame!

  • @TheTruthHurtsYup No. All the shores there within 100 miles are straight cliffs and nearly vertical. You're an idiot!

  • @TheTruthHurtsYup its not that easy.. imagine a 5000 ton boat , no tug can pull that by its self. and there is no crane that can lift it. so unless you can give a bright idea to lift it, its not happening

  • Isn't this the ship that the captain and crew abandoned leaving the people to fend for themselves?

  • @Uruyagua Yep

  • @Uruyagua, no, that was Oceanos.

  • It turned al the wy over when it sank? sorry this is the first time ive heard of this ship

  • the orange things were bogus life boats. they r used for crew members mostly. and thts junk. ships tht r up to US standards Barely ever sink.... Have u ever seen a Royal Carribean or NCL or Disney Ship or Carnival ship sinking on the news? NO.

  • @Cruiseshiptime, when the car ferry Estonia sank in 1994, all survivors were found from those inflatable rafts. I don't think you can lower a traditional lifeboat in heavy weather.

    .

Also, as far as I know at least RCCL's ships are classified by DNV, which is a Norwegian classification society. Perhaps Carnival and others use ABS, perhaps not. As for "American standards", you're so far behind when it comes to building passenger ships that I wouldn't say anything about "your standards"...

  • @Cruiseshiptime, of course when the ship is old and crewed by people from a country where safety standards are often overlooked or ignored, accidents can happen. Propping the watertight doors open etc. is bad seamanship. Still, I wouldn't doubt the technical safety of this ship - after all, it was built in Finland not too long ago.

  • synd,så synd på så trevlig båt detta var..har många trevliga minnen från denna kryssningsbåt,detta öde var den ej värd..

  • I thought it sank during the day?

  • why did it sink?

  • this is really sad

  • Oh yeah. I was visiting greece and when I woke up in the morning the sea diamond was slipping beneath the waves

  • that sucks.

  • So sad!

If im the captain after the evac is completed i try start engines at full power and try to take him to a safe port hehehehe

  • oh no my lugage

  • what are the orange floaty things for?

  • @lilmissfarah oh those are life rafts

  • why did it sank ?

  • @deadbyaprilowns it hit a reef

  • Near, far, where EVER YOU ARE, I believe, THAT-CH the heart goes onnnnnnnOnnn

  • @strapen2good THAT-CH LOL...Z.Z.Z..Z.

  • looked like the ship had some pretty good suction goin as it went down.

  • im glad i wasnt in that last life raft which came up.

  • wut made it sink

  • @sarter11 due to inaccurate maps it hit a coral reef and they are off the hook for insurance.

  • Sad :( Poor ship. It doesn't ask for this. I know that ship can't think, it's a thing, but, it is sad.
