  • Better Than I Used To Be is album

  • what album does this song appear on?

  • The best.....

  • Way more emotion then Tim's... I heard Sammy's live b4 Tim released his. Sammy is true country music!! <3 SK

  • I like Sammy's better than Tims

  • He's still got it ,, just like anything else it's the Politics involved... I still like his voice and the way he sings.....

  • This wouldve been a lot better if The Sammy Kershaw of the mid 90's had sang it. He just ain't got it anymore :(

  • Love Sammy's version, but how many would like to hear George Strait cut this? I just think it got George all over it...

  • Sammy is laughing all the way to the bank, tim may have put it on the radio, but Sammy wrote it.

  • Some people say Tims better some people say sammys better, but put yourself in the shoes of the song writer. Definitely makes more sense for mcgraw to cut it. Just a thought

  • @NBAballaz its not always about the money if u stay true to your work its more rewarding just

to stay yourself 4 instance Waylon & Jamey Johnson 2 name a couple

  • I have to say I enjoy this version much more. I saw Sammy live back in September and he is SO nice & down to earth. He sang with heart and soul...& my family and i really embraced his performance.

  • `Being a singer myself the more I watch this the more I think sammy is full of shit. Hes just singing theres no emotion at all just going thru the motions. When I sing (and im not the best singer) I feel the music and it shows. Theres no faking emotion when singing either its real or its not

  • @MrJrat218 ur way off man Sammy's the real deal if u knew anything about him

    & his music

  • Long time sammy fan but truth is tim I believe he sings with his heart and soul. Sammy should of put some more "faith" into this song

  • I like Sammy's version way better. I always have! I loved this song before Tim McGraw even thought about singing it!

  • I do not like the tim msgraw version of this song sammy kershaw's version and voice is way better than tim mcgraw's i wish you could hear this version on the radio

  • Makes me.thirsty

  • My girlfriend sent me this song. She said it reminds her of me. I grudgingly agreed with her...but I'd never tell her that. :) I don't need to, though. She knows

  • i like tim mcgraws better

  • Get u some of this Tim

  • I like Tim's remake a lot but the thing about Sammy's version is you look in his eyes & you know his story. His troubles are well documented and there's no hiding from his history. It's like he is singing it from his soul. I can see the wear on his face of living through battles with the devil. I relate more to Sammy. I've been there & I'm fighting the fight like he is. Just learning to live with yourself can be the hardest battle you can face in life. That's what the song is all about.

  • although i disagree i appreciate ur opinion and all the different coments on this song. Personally I love it

    \

  • Original= the better:):)

  • I really liked it but i still liked Tim Mcgraws better!

  • 10 times better than Tim.

  • Kershaw sings this better.. Rite on Sammy.

  • Fantastic song. This version is so much better than what you hear on the radio.

  • This is how this song is suppose to be sung. Awesome job Mr. Kershaw! I don't like the lyrical changes Tim's song has in it. I like him, but not his version of this song. Sammy owns it!

  • Puts you in mind of old George Jones sound nad boy do i miss that sound

  • I love this song and you can tell it comes from his heart !

I also have lived this song in my life and all I can say is " I'm better than I use to be " A better woman ! Than I used to be !

  • I had the pleasure of being on the record label Category 5 back in 2006 as a label mate w/ Sammy Kershaw before the label closed. This song belongs to Sammy & it's simple. What he is singing is what he actually lived. He did this song because he was that man. And w/out a doubt my friend Sammy Kershaw is "much better than he uesd to be"....Hell i know i am!!

  • good song, great singer...

  • You know I'm a huge huge huge country music fan and to some of u saying if we like tims version better we don't know real country that's bs I love tim McGraw yeah I like this version. Better but his isn't bad just cause u prefer the orig don't be twisting shit around oldheads

  • Sammy sang it first....and I am partial to his version. He has more of a raw, cut to the bone, down home voice. Both are great singers....but they have very different voices. My vote goes with Sammy's version!

  • I like Tim too but Sammy sings this song and you can feel it in your soul. Excellent. I am glad I found you.

  • I like both singers, but I've lost some respect for Tom McGraw. Sammy did this song before him if I'm not mistaken. If Tim had any class, he'd have left it alone and recorded something else. Just because he's Tim McGraw it gets more play. It's all about timing. If Sammy had been in his prime in the 2000"s instead of the early 90's we'd be looking at this song at top of the charts with him singing it. When it comes to country music voices, Sammy's hard to beat.

  • Tim or Sammy.. doesn't matter.. it's an amazing song

  • Heard it on the radio the other day, wanted to buy on iTunes. Bought Tim's first but it wasn't right... Just bought Sammy's! Love love love, its so perfect!

  • Sammy Kershaw always has and always will be a true country music singer in my book. He is traditional country and you can feel the song like its supposed to be felt. I wish this version got more play than Tims.

  • I simply love Tim McGraw...anything he sings doesn't take long to grow on me. BUT I HAVE TO SAY, Samm Kershaw's earthy, genuine tone has won my heart over. Hands down...this round goes to Sammy. It's just simply more believable, especially the feeling behind the line "Standing in the rain so long." I just don't think Sammy got the recognition he deserves. He is truly an artist.

  • Like Tim's, but Sammy's is best.

  • Sammy sings this song with feeling, Tim's version isn't bad (it's 100 times better than what he has had on the radio recently) but, Sammy sang it first and best.

  • George Jones would sound so good singing this song it would be amazing.

  • I heard Tim singing this on the radio. I went online and bought it. The I went on youtube and discovered that it was a cover. Now I just went and bought this guys whole album.

  • tim can not touch sammy on this song

  • @shepanddez

    Totally agree with ya....

  • I like this version...but it aint the best version but I tell you Sammy is a awesome singer no matter what he has a really good voice for a old time singer

  • The two artists actually sound quite similar.

  • this is real country music tim mcgraw sings it to but sammy sings it like he means it. thats the way a song is to be sung. with feelings. wish i chould here more of sammy on the radio instead of this new age country. from The Bull who loves the good old country music. just call me a old hillbilly that wont die

  • now this is real country and western music here...

  • Tim McGraw can go fly a kite as far as this song's concerned!

  • sammy's version is a hundred times better. Sad Tim gets the radio play.

  • Tim's version is not better. You know it's so.Sammy does an awesome job on this song.

  • One of my favorite songs by Sammy. Also ,as we get older if this isn't true for everyone they are traveling the wrong direction on the hiway!

  • Beautifull!!!!

  • both are good...

  • Tim McGraws version makes the radio, Sammy's version makes you feel the song.

  • @5ddaddy Couldn't have said it better! Tim's is good, but this one gets me a little teary eyed hahaha

  • @5ddaddy definitely!

  • it is apparent that radio likes Tim's version as well.because they have not mentioned that Sammy also recorded it 2 years ago. the reason we did not hear this until now is because Tim's old record company would not release it until they were made to by court .so this tells me that this song was recorded only a year after Sammy recorded his.

  • I am sorry if I am causing a problem in any way. I do not hate anybody I just like one singer better that is it. I am personally going through a crisis right now,so Tim's music helps me in it. I lost a child in July last year and now my favorite brother in law is very ill and like I said it is just the singer. I did not realize this is your email thing. I am sorry for causing a problem.

  • I can relate! One of the most under rated voices in the business

  • i love tim...but sammy has the best version of this song. this song is beautiful.

  • Did not know Tim rereleased this song. After listening to Tim, Sammy sings this song so much better!!! And I love Tim....But give Sammy the recognition he deserves!!!

  • @tamidiane100 , the way I see it,they both sing it the same way. there is not that much of a difference in the two singers. I am a total Tim fan and that is it.

  • @myrarobinson42 in regards to this statement in particular, you have come to this video to comment more than any of Tim McGraw's in the last few weeks and I admire your passion for Tim's music and his version of this song, but your comments would be best stated on the video and performer you are a fan of, since in your previous statement to @llforeman "I don't like Sammy's voice, he cannot sing." leads me to believe you are not a fan of Sammy. BTW, this is my video channel

  • What tis thesed accusations of one individual to the next.. Sorry sir, I beg the differ. Although, in opinion one has rights to conjure their judgement.. Thank You!

  • @gdclark2

I so agree with you, I wsh they would play this one of Sammy

  • @myrarobinson42

I enjoy Sammy's music and Tim's music, but it ain't even close on this one, Sammy's version is pure country....He sells the song....sounds like he has lived it......Tim's version sounds weak and not country enough......a lot of what is on country radio today is some real weak sh!t......

  • @myrarobinson42 if you like tims version better its because you dont know real country music. not knocking Tim Mcgraw but he's in that stage of country/pop. Sammy is a country singer. He buts thats old time twang in it and that sound is priceless. you do have a right to your opinion but if your a true country fan you would know that Sammys version is by far the best

  • to each his own. everybody always has an opinion.I had heard Tim found this song.but I could have gotten the wrong information. but to me,Tim has been through similar things so I guess this is why he decided to record it also. everybody has a right.

  • Like Tim but this song was definitely written with Sammy in mind. Tim has not had the life experiences to sell this song as his own struggles with life. Sammy's life is this song. Just my opinion.

  • @aj44ish how do you know Tim has not had any struggles in life. I have a book about him and how he had to sleep in a barn for awhile while his Mom worked two jobs to support him and his sisters.

  • @aj44ish , actually it really doesn't matter if someone has this experience it is just whether or not they put themselves in to a song.

  • @myrarobinson42 That is what I meant. I'm sure that Tim probably had it rough but not publicly going from the penthouse to the outhouse in the industry. I wasn't knocking Tim. When I said selling the song as his own I meant that you look at where Sammy was and where he is now in comparison. The song is just more believable coming from him. I'm still a McGraw fan.

  • @aj44ish , all I do know about Tim is that he and Kenny Chesney shared many rough times together while trying to get their music heard. they played in Honky Tonks and just anyplace they could play. it took Tim a few years after he quit college to get a song heard and he had "Indian Outlaw " in his pocket for months before he recorded it and he said nobody else wanted that song.

  • @aj44ish , a person or artist does not record a song just because he or she has lived that song. why are so many people making such a big deal out of this recording. I know Tim's version has been on radio. so what? If Sammy does not have the pr to push his song it is his own fault. he recorded it in 09. Tim's fans love the song he sings his way. Tim has had a rough time of it. this song tells about Tim's struggles in life too.Sammy is on tour now.

  • I have to say that I live by this song now... Thank you /sammy for such an inspirational song.. Loves and hugs Louisiana Hot /sause

  • This songe truely helps me get through each day...gotta Listen to It ever Morning

  • Tim can't hold a candle to Sammy's version.

  • Just found out today that I'm gonna be a father for the first time. This song definitely hits home.

  • I like Sammy's better.

  • This hits home...I love this song

  • my new addiction..<3

  • sing it sammy

  • Cant decide who i like singing this song better leaning towards sammy but then not sure

  • ok I have to say I am a huge Sammy kershaw fan ever since I was 13 I am now 40 also a Tim McGraw fan I do have to say Tim is beter to his fans but I have to say this song has Sammy's name all over it not only does he sing it better but although it wasn't wrote for Sammy Sammy has lived this song and don't like how Tim changed the song a little and how he sang it off key I just wished it was a #1 for Sammy

  • Sammy Kershaw did a great job but I think Chris LeDoux would have been a great fit for this song also. I think his voice and personality would have been perfect for this song. RIP Chris!

  • I prefer this version so much more.

  • Makes me thirsty

  • @myrarobinson42 I can certainly understand a personal preference for Tim McGraw's version - let's face it, if he sang his grocery list for 12 tracks, I would buy the cd. However, I do feel that credit should be given to Mr. Kershaw for singing the song with soul and credibly. As for all this discussion regarding Tim's use of a "tuner", I have attended many Tim McGraw concerts and I don't know how else he could sing in tune with all the screaming and cheering that goes on around him.

  • wish more people would try to better themselves, wonder why i heard bout tim mcgraws song then saw this on youtube, don't know why people do a song someone else did, like they didn't do it good enough

  • Sammy did this song way more justice than Tim did & I like Tim McGraw. I think with all the things Sammy has been thru personally n the past few yrs he can personally relate 2 the lyrics & that can have a real effect on a musicians song, music, performance etc

  • this is a true song for me i have opened my eyes think you to my wife and jesus crist

  • I'm in love with Tim McGraw and his version is good... but this version is soo much better.

  • Can't imagine why McGraw would even cut this after hearing Kershaw's version. I've been told when McGraw goes in to record that the engineers nearly twist the knobs off the boards trying to pull him back on key! I've heard him live and his show is awful unless you like to see someone walk around and grin alot... Nashville is a fickle lady and the country music business is just the music business now...Country is gone...

  • @coleyman1 , I think he is a brilliant singer,he has a great voice and i love the way he sings and I don't believe what you say about people trying to pull him back on key. i have heard him live I have been to several of his shows and he is really good at singing he has a great voice. I love the man. you won't change my mind about him. He has sung without his band. and now he has no band. if he was that bad,he would not sell so many albums. if his show is bad,why do you go?

  • @myrarobinson42 Ah, you misunderstood my objection. I live here and play here everyday. I think McGraw is a great entertainer. Gallimore has done a great job getting the most of his voice and picking songs that he can sing. My point was McGraw is not what we call a pure voice. Live performances with large audiences don't require you to be perfect, but in the studio, after the vocals are down, just about everyone has to be pulled back on key. Some more than others. It's called "tuning".

  • @myrarobinson42 I like singers instead of performers. I guess the difference between you and I and our likes and dislikes is AGE. I've been playing music for 40 years and and have seen the best singers get the shaft because they weren't either, good looking, too old, wouldn't give up part of their recording rights, wanted to write their own music, wanted to help produce their own music, and on and on. Pure voices are hard to find. By the way, they DO use a "tuner" at some of McGraw's live shows.

  • Sammy is king on this song.

  • I can list a few people who have done the same song and they were both popular.Leanne Rymes and Trisha Yearwood ,and lets see, I also recall Leanne did a song "I need you" and it was also recorded and made big by Tim and his wife Faith. recently another singer redid an old Alan Jackson song. it happens in the music business and some people get mad when it does, but that is the music business people.

  • @myrarobinson42 You are talking about three completely different songs with the same song title. Educate yourself.

  • @pledgeallegiance2hag I am educated,I am trying to make a point about more than one person singing the same exact song. Trisha and Leanne sang the exact same song and nobody had a problem with it. they both recorded "How do I live" they were both on the charts the same time. they did not have a problem with that.

  • okay.we all got the idea that Sammy or Tim does a better job,if we all did the same ,this world would be boring as hell. everybody has an opinion. Tim was not trying to do any better he just did it his way. and Sammy did it his way. so you all get over yourselves. this happens so much of the time. artists do this all the time. get use to it.

  • @myrarobinson42 Not this close together and not as a featured song on the album. It's not very professional to do things like that. A good producer would know that but money is the main motivator now, ethics have left the building!

  • @coleyman1 , Sammy recorded his song in 09 and Tim recorded his 2 years ago. it was offered to him and he took it. why does every body make such a big deal about this song?

  • @myrarobinson42 Songs aren't "offered" to people. Well, that's not exactly true because some writers or publishers will hold a song for a performer to give them first shot at it. Mostly though, songs are "pitched" to artist by publisher "pitch men" or the writer themselves. Once a song is on the market or someone has recorded it then it's pretty much fair game. If no one records it right away just about anyone can come in the publishers and listen to songs for their artist to record.

  • @coleyman1 i know about the music business,at least some of it,cause Mcgraw wrote a book about how some of it is done. I am finished arguing about this.

  • Tim has had a few rough years and some serious problems in his life,so he was offered the song and thought he needed to record it mainly for his wife. he has changed for her and has been trying to do better for her.

  • I love this song. i like tim's music, but no one does this song like sammy does.you can tell it comes from sammy's heart. Like he feels and has lived this song. you go sammy, we still love you from duson,la

  • Love Tim McGraw...........Sammy does this song justice. He makes this song sound smoother...........Love it!!!!!

  • I think this better than Tim McGraw's but i'm glad someone re-released so that it gets it's deserved time on the airwaves

  • like hearin it from a true country singer...

  • Sammy's version is the best. I like Tim but Sammy has been around longer and just has a better voice for this song. I can't wait to see Sammy in January in Redding Ca.

  • My best friend says this remibds her of me :) how nice ash!

  • Tim McGraw killed it, Sammy hands down! Too bad the radio won't play Kershaw though but they will just love Tim's...

  • I like Tim songs, I dont think this was a tim song. Not sure what you are saying. I do like Sammys version better

  • I have been a Tim fan for 15 years and i think Tim puts more into his version. I like Tim's a lot more ,but I am wondering why Tim was given the opportunity to do this when Sammy had already recorded it. Tim sang this on tour but he never mentioned someone else had done it first.Tim does better on this. my opinion, but i think Tim can sing anything and do it justice

  • WAY BETTER THAN TIM MCGRAW. I CANT BELIEVE HE TRIED TO SING IT

  • @parker90us dame I cannot believe a Tim fan likes Sammy's version better. Sammy does not have the feeling behind it.oh,well to each his own.

  • @myrarobinson42 Tim McGraw's version sucks, get over it. Kershaw nailed it, McGraw's white noise. He hasn't made a good album in years, it's brain washed fans that keep buying his junk albums.

  • @pledgeallegiance2hag TO YOU IT SUCKS. BY THE WAY,RADIO IS NOT PLAYING EITHER VERSION OF THIS SONG. AND SAMMY DID IT 2 YEARS AGO,SO WHY MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT. NOBODY WHO COVERS A SONG TELLS YOU THEY ARE COVERING ANOTHER SINGER UNLESS THEY ARE DOING IT IN CONCERT. WHEN DID REDID LIONEL RICHIE, HALO, HE TOLD PEOPLE IT WAS A LIONEL SONG. LIONEL LOVES HIS VERSION. IT IS JUST ANOTHER WAY OF COMPLIMENTING THE ORIGINAL ARTIST. ELVIS DID IT.

  • Comment removed

  • @myrarobinson42 McGraw has not recorded anything with a country sound in quite awhile, anyone who knows his old music can attest to that. Which is why it is a shame that he takes such an amazing song of Sammy Kershaw's, who is legendary, and out his pop music and auto tuned voice all over. AND FOR THE RECORD, Tim McGraw's version of the song IS on the radio.

  • @myrarobinson42 Your reply is so confusing I don't know what you're complaining about. Lionel Richie? Elvis? And what does Halo have to do with either of them? Are you just typing words or are you actually attempting to form sentences? If everyone's entitled to their own opinion why are you attacking everyone who doesn't like McGraw's version?

  • @pledgeallegiance2hag I AM NOT BRAIN WASHED. YOU HAVE YOUR OPINION,BIG DAM DEAL.

  • Tim cannot hold a candle to Sammy on this great song!

  • Comment removed

  • I luv this

  • Everyone BUY Sammys !!!!!!!!!!

  • Sammy is the BEST !! Hope Tim gives him some money off his ~ I was listen to this 1 year ago ! I love you SAMMY !!

  • @VampireGirlSRP Tim has to since Sammy wrote this song. A percentage goes to the writter. its how it works.

  • @VampireGirlSRP Sammy didnt write it, so the songwriters are the ones that will get rich off of it

  • While I think this is a beautiful video and that Kershaw's version is better than McGraw's, it's not "his" song... it was written by Ashley Gorley and Brian Simpson. I'm just glad it's getting some daylight, even if I would have preferred it to be with Kershaw.

  • Love Tim McGraw's version (honestly, would have never heard the song if he hadn't sang it), but this is phenomenal.

  • I don't care about Tim McGraw versus Sammy Kershaw or whoever....I'm thankful that I found this song a month or more ago. It put me in my place and helped me realize that I have more to live for than what I've been livin'. I lost a family member this week and life is too short. Alcohol is great but God is good. Try a little love in your heart and know that no one singer is better than whoever....just a little different. Merry Christmas.

  • Cette chanson est véritablement plus belle par Sammy Kershaw !!!

Tim Mc Graw ne l'interprète pas aussi bien !!!

This song is really nicer by Sammy Kershaw !!!

Tim Mc Graw does not interpret it's well !!!

  • better then tim mcgraw hahaha thats a real funny joke no country singer is better then tim

  • This song belongs to Sammy, he sings it way better than Tim McGraw, Tims version isnt worth listening to. Tim might have some good songs out but he should have left this one alone. Love ya Sammy

  • Sammy you're better than anyone I know to sing this song.

    A fan in California

  • Oh he's alot better than Tim & it was sorry of Tim to redue his song w/out permission!!! I want buy another album of Tims for him doin that!!

  • @countrytattooedgirl where are you getting this info? How did Tim record this song without Sammy's permission? Sammy did not even write this, it was a song that was out there and anyone could record it. Sammy released it, and unfortunately it did not chart, and now Tim released it as a single. No one did anyone wrong with this song. I do prefer Sammy's version as you can feel the truth behind it...

  • I feel like this song is for me.. Really good!!

  • Beautiful

  • amazing just wow!!

  • Bout time

  • love this video, i think it;s the best song Sammy has ever sang.

  • Sammy you do a great job to this song!!!

  • it cant get no better

  • I haven't heard this song before but it's got me to tears. Making me think about me, what I've lost, and what I still have.

  • First time I've heard this song...didn't even know Sammy was still making the great music he always has. I listened to the Tim McGraw version...DOES NOT COMPARE....I love Tim as well...but this song was meant for Sammy. He has lived this song...not to say that Tim doesn't have some of his own demons...but this song is Sammy's life...I get chills when he sings it! Country stations should definitely be playing this song!!! Let them know!!

  • +sammy kershaw is oneof the best singers, i have love s music from the first song he came out with, he's just a year older than me but to me he's btter than he used to be. love you ammy..

  • Sammy's one of the most under-rated singers of all time. His voice is strong, clear and he has a distinctive style - McGraw can't hold a candle to Sammy with voice quality and neither can most other country singers.

  • McGraw can't even come close to Sammy of you ask me this song was meant for Sammy I wish it would have went #1

  • I know what he is saying I have been there

  • tim mcgraw messes up the lyrics in it , so i agree with everyone this is sammy's song 100%

  • I know this man, the one he speaks of. He's the one who holds my heart.....

  • I have been a devout Tim McGraw fan for over fifteen years now, but even I have to admit that Sammy Kershaw does better justice to this song. I keep coming back to his version. Very touching.

  • after all the years he still has it in him, seen him last month, him and mike dean

  • this version puts me to sleep, McGraw sounded a heck alot better even live,

  • Tim McGraw singing this song is like me singing it, sounds like crap.. This man should've had a number one with this song!!!

  • Wow if there was ever to be anyone as close as Sammy Kershaw is George Jones. I would pass out. Sammy is just that good.

  • sammy your an awesome singer....i saw you with my little brother when you came to british columbia in canada years ago ...hope you get back here soon...adrian

  • sammy your an awesome singer....i saw you with my little brother when you came to british columbia in canada years ago ...hope you get back here soon...adrian

  • This is a BRILLIANT song. totally connect. LOL

  • I WOULD LOVEEEEEEEE TO BE HIS WIFE :)

  • dang he is a heckkkk of a singerrr and looks to go with it,, it's really sad i was listening to him 20 yrs ago and he should have been one of the greatest singer along with others sad he didn't make it everyone is missing a greatttt voice.
