My family moved from Pittsburgh to the Philly area in late 1966 and discovered the local kids shows such as Pixanne, Sally Starr, Gene London, and Gerry Wheeler as Lorenzo. I loved all these shows! The only thing I remember about this show is Lorenzo never talked (did he?) and dancing (dressed as a hobo) to "Yakkety Sax. My brothers and I never missed any of our favorite programs. Thanks for the memories--haven't seen this stuff since 1968!
I was on the Lorenzo show as a kid in Baltimore. It was my first time in a TV studio and I was so excited and fascinated by the whole experience. It's probably one of the reasons I'm in acting today. I remember seeing myself on the TV monitor and thinking how cool! Too bad we didn't have VCRs back then. Would love to have copies of the show, but they've probably been tossed for lack of storage space. Best wishes to Mr Wheeler for the joy he brought to all us kids in Baltimore! Thanks Lorenzo!
that was a great comment, the guy that said meeting lorenzo was like meeting a God from Olympus. I'd pay big bucks to be able to buy the old Lorenzo Show videos if they couod be produced.
I've been trying for many years to find a long cartoon he played. It was Asian, and surely an early anime. It was an Asian folktale: somehow a family made a witch mad. The witch turned one sister into a mermaid, one into a crane, and made the mother blind. Eventually the son was reunited with the mother. Any info from anyone??
@onefroggymorning Maybe you are thinking of Hashimoto Mouse cartoons? Sounds like a typical plot from those, some of which can be found on YouTube. They were produced by TerryToons and I think were on Lorenzo and even Sally Starr. Good Luck!
I was just saying to my kids the other day, yall have the Kinderman and we had a dancing bum (tramp) call Lorenzo and he had his own dance that all the kids in b-more was doing called the Lorenzo stomp. I remember watching in my livingroom on Mosher Street (Sandtown) with my sisters and brother, even my big sister,Kickie got in on it . I love utube 'cause i can just about watch all my favorite old school videos with a smile and warm heart. Baltimore Loves You
I remember watching him on KYW TV3 in Philadelphia and I met him at the NJ State Fair once! He autographed a postcard photo of himself and shaked my hand! Sorry to hear about the Alzheimer's but I'm glad that "Lorenzo's" alive and well and hasn't lost that antic spirit! Thanks for making me feel young again for 3 1/2 minutes!
It is unbelievable that this clip is on youtube. It is now my favorite clip on here. Where on earth did you find this clip? I used to watch him, I believe on Channel 3 out of Philly back in the mid sixities. He was on early in the morning. I loved the way he would transform into Lorenzo. My cousin and I would talk about the show when we met up at the swimming pool later that day. We would do the Lorenzo Stomp all the way into the pool as we jumped in. Wow ! Take me back man. Thanks!
Gerald Wheeler (of Lorenzo's Cartoon Festival) attends my adult day care on the U.S. west coast. He suffers from Alzheimer's. I wanted to see what a talented man he was.
To this day he loves to entertain. Even though he has Alzheimer's, his spirit stays alive.
When I was four or five years old, in about 1963 or 1964, I had a chance to meet Gerry Wheeler. Channel 13 has its headquarters on a major hill in Baltimore appropriately called TV Hill. So, when I met THE Lorenzo, it was like meeting a god from Olympus. Thanks for the memories. I also made a comment on a Yakety Sax video; those of us in the know in Baltimore still call "Yakety Sax," "The Lorenzo Stomp."
I loved him growing up the Phila/NJ shore area. His show was my favorite. I always loved the yackety sax and watching him put his makeup on and get in to Lorenzo. Thanks for posting this.
I loved Lorenzo and my parents got a kick out of my doing the Lorenzo Stomp for them!

WONDERFUL!! I watched Lorenzo with my dad when I was very young and we both loved the show.
I've searched for information for years, and am so happy to see the video clip! I can't wait to show it to my dad!
I wish I could buy all these old shows on video but I'm happy to at least see this clip, thanks so much for sharing it!
