"I wrote that" hahahaha.. I listened to Joo and Igudesman in Dubrovnik this summer. Julian Rachlin festival. They had the most amaaaazing show, I laughed for about three hours without stopping. Thanks for that.
The man knows every single fucking classical composer right up to everything that's played today! This is what I love about Joo and Igudesman, and others who are just like them. Not the classical musicians who just know and play classical music, but those who play classical music and today's music, and know how to put both into a medley of different styles. And that, at least to me, is beautifully awesome! :*)
It's crazy how it sounds nothing like Billy Joel yet sounds exactly like Billy Joel. Nice to see someone who has found their own voice in music nowadays.
@tuzikbobik1 im not a music illiterate but it's usually only if people play like a metronome that they get it almost exactly in time wiv each other, nd these 2 dont! that's sum nasty jab you decided to send my way 'its not hard to understand' yes i do understand ThankYouVeryMuch! that's so annoying! besides, i was merely trying to emphasize how great they are and trying to show my support. jeez (-_-") and wtf? it's called music?! how does that have anything to do with the definition of music?!
First piece is has a nice theme and is ellaborated wonderfully. Second piece reminds me a lot of, "And So it Goes" in the beginning. I like the connections between passages in the second ones however.
Richard ... It was great meeting you and seeing you perform at Fred and Lora's party on Saturday. Thanks SO much for the DVD... am enjoying it already. Love these YouTube videos too. You and Aleksey ROCK it! ... Sue ;~)
billy's always been called a bit "cocky", but it's nice to see that the man recognizes his own limitations. he did the smart thing; he called in a REAL gunslinger to bring his compositions to life. hat's off to the brilliant mr. joo for his wonderful performance!
I kind of like that they play a bit out of sync; it sounds exactly like what it is - two players with different styles playing the same piece, and neither is really trying to be exactly like the other. It's very honest-sounding.
Hey everyone...check out my video response: Nunley's Carousel, which is definitely my favorite from Fantasies and Delusions. Feel free to leave comments.
I respect Billy Joel very much and think he's a wonderful musician, but it's a really dumb idea to have two pianist play the exact same piece at the same time. It is very difficult to be synchronized unless they play like machines with metronome precision (which is not how these pieces are meant to be played!). He should have arranged it for two pianos and then played it with Mr. Joo.
billy played a "classical" version of the longest time on the documentary of river of dreams. he said that he found music that could be played as instrumental alone he found made the better material, almost all his music starts as piano solo works, and the words come later
Yeah many people compose music for instruments people don't even know how to play like many violin ists who never touched a piano can still compose for the piano but probably can't play their own compositions.
what billy is saying is not uncommon. Schubert was not a great pianist, and couldnt even earn a living from his playing in any form. yet he is considered a great composer. Berlioz himself said the best he could do was play with only one had to pluck out melodies. its the 'hearing' the harmonies in your head that makes the difference
That is so interesting hearing what Billy Joel said in the beginning...The genius that he is saying that he can't play his own classical material live because it will sound like shit. God I like this guy. A real class act. True Story.
@charlietotem I meant to say that when I watched it, the video was out of sync with the audio track so there fingers would play a note and I'd still be hearing the last one he played. I didn't mean to comment on the piece itself, if that's what you (or anyone else reading this) thought. I probably should have been more specific
i can hear a lot of "Joel" in the Dublinesque. It sounds a lot like Scenes from an italian Restaurant and A little like New York State of Mind. Love it!
What some of the stuff from Igudesman And Joo. Its from their "A Little Nightmare Music" concert. My favorites are "Rachmaninov had big Hands" and "Riverdancing Violinist".
