no the train didn't get bad water!!!!!! It was cram packed with people and it weighed it down plus the weight of each car and people on it and their is like 8 or nine cars plus like 4 tons of coal and the tender weight too and plus the train is old and the wheels was slipping and they couldnt use the sanders because it would blow into the peoples eyes below. Dollywood wouldnt hurt its people for the world so the sanders was out of the question and the tracks might of had to much grease or water
I can explain even more why this happen(s). Dollywood has 2 locos #70 Cinderella and the smaller #192 Clondike Katie. Cinderella rarely has this problem because she has 25,200 lbs. of Traction Force which is like Horsepower for trains. Clondike Katie has only 16,000 lbs. of Traction Force so they have to keep the throttle wide open just to get out of the station with a full load of passengers.
@Nascarking24 No, I was there that day. That is not why this happend. This happend do to a Bad load of water,Causing the locomotive to steam poorly. This loocomotive has more than enough power to pull this train up the grade. But Due to the bad load of water, there simply Was not enough steam to make it up the grade.
I think I was there that day, I have video of the train as well. They backed all the way down the hill to the shop and tried again. They made it most of the way up but I think they had to stop and back down again, which is where I think you caught them. Because I noticed they didn't come back down by the county fair as usual. just backed into the depot. She's ready for some time off. Hopefully they'll have the 70# fixed.. Again..
I was there November 27th, I think that is the day this happened. I have video on my account of them trying to make it up after the first failed attempt. Must have been a one day thing though, next few times I have been there, didn't see any problems.
The Train at Dollywood didn"t have enough steam to get up the grade so they had to put the train in reverse and backed her up into the train station!! I was amazed too!!

I hope they have 70 fixed. I really think it is bad track through that section, worn tires on 192
