The movie had it's ups and downs, but this speech is definitely a high point. Amusingly clever, in it's own way. "Well, firstly ... it's quite big!" (blinks and agreeing nods from audience members, who've just now noticed this astonishing fact.) Apparently, Dr. Bean didn't let the bigness escape his attention, nor the fact it was worth $50,000,000 because "family is important." I learned none of that looking at images of the painting, obviously I needed the real thing to be thus inspired.

I, like it. Seems there are a lot of negative comments.

Atkinson loves making weird faces many (but not all!) of his performances - mostly it's displeased and contemptuous ones, though - and I mostly highly enjoy everything he does, from deadpan snarker various impersonations, to the slapstick. He's a very versatile actor and comedian.

His TV Bean NAILS it.

But in this scene, and much of the movie in general, I feel he's waaay overacting. He tries too hard doing the "Bean thing", makes contorted faces, attempts to transform the comical grumpy...

... muttering from the show into an actual manner of speech which seriously challenges Prequel Yoda in its sheer artificial obnoxiousness, and despite some good writing here, it comes off as annoying and unnecessary more than anything else.

And Atkinson has gone over-the-top SO many times prior to that :D

But hey, you know - everyone's got their low. Johnny Depp had his Wille Wonka... *gag*
