  • loved this guy really missed him when they took his show off the air.

  • I wonder if he enjoyed hummus and pedo bread? >,<

  • This was when Dave was at his wittiest and smarmiest. Truly funny. Not like now, where he looks like a crotchety old curmudgeon who acts as if he doesn't even want to be on his show anymore.

  • @EzrinJem2

That is why I switched over to watching The Late Show with Jay Leno

  • @sillygrl23 I don't find Leno to be too much better. He seems kinda phoney.

  • oh man, this is absolute hilarity!!!

  • I miss watching the frugal gourmet:(

  • @GJNCA I mean, that was the whole deal, wasn't it? He was gay and got blackmailed for it. Damn shame, haven't found a cooking show yet that has taught me as much as his did.

  • @GJNCA Couldn't have said it better myself. Well done.

  • They mentioned "Ants on a Log" in an episode of "The Office" -- Erin the reseptionist makes them for Micheal Scott (Steve Correl)

  • A child molester and a lousy cook.

  • @liberalguy513

lol. that guy was always on PBS.

  • Oh, God! This is fun! I watched both men's shows in the 80's! Thanks!

  • holy shit dave at the best funny as fuck

  • I love Jeff Smith. And I think the presenter and crowd here were very disrespectful

  • its sad, i love both of these men, but in the back of my mind, (SEX SCANDAL)

like the both of them..... sad

  • I heard his last days in Seattle or wherever he lived were not too pretty. He was truly a broken man. I read online that he would be seen puttering around in a wheelchair because he was so ill. Also, he had become very angry and would frequently get into arguments with those around him.

  • No that was not Jeff Smith. It was your twisted Uncle Ned who grabbed your stuff in 82'. Dont you remember?

  • he was not a pedophile, do ur research!

  • and aparently your a necropheliac, in your opinion, which ones worse?

  • The old queen was a christian minister. So what's new?

  • I don't care about his (attempted) sex-life, but I waited on him once around 1993, and he was a colossal prick and a nasty drunk who couldn't hold his Bombay Sapphire well. Apparently this was his usual M.O. I hope wherever he is now, he is taking a big dose of his own medicine. "I bid you peace" my ass. Fuck You, Jeff Smith, if you're reading this.

  • I used to watch Frugal Gourmet off and on. I was just browsing through some old tapes I had from TV and stumbled across an episode of FG and remembered the scandal.

Jeff Smith was accused of sexually harassing young workers in his restaurant in Tacoma. All of the lawsuits weren't organized by the same lawyer. I think there were 2 or 3 from different people.

Where there's smoke there's fire, and the out of court settlement is usually an indicator that the blaze would have been damaging.

  • A great cook.

  • Smoking shrimp in front of the curtain and poles behind it.

  • His public career came to an end when two of his male assistant chefs brought charges of sexual harassment against him. Shortly thereafter, in 1998, several men alleged that he had sexually assaulted them in the 1970s, when they worked for him.[3] Smith denied the accusations. He was taken off the air shortly afterward. Though he was never charged with a crime, he settled with the plaintiffs out of court, and never returned to the airwaves.

  • i was not trying to pass off that information as my own. i assumed most people would figure that it was from some other source. sorry i didn't feel the need to spell it out for the dumb people or the college professor in my works cited...:-P

  • he ran into some legal problems. then his tv show went away on pbs.

  • "Get your facts straight, he was never even accused of pediophilia."

Then why did he pay a million dollars in law suits from teenagers who he allegedly had sex with?

And why did PBS instantly cancel his show?

I loved his shows and still love his books. He was a bit dishonest with this cooking minister persona. I doubt of he would have been successful calling himself the gay gourmet..

  • Kann dann zu.

Ich nenne mich ab sofort " dontyouhatepants"

  • Loved Jeff and his show. He called people 'friend,' and that really made an impression on me. To this day, I find myself using the term in conversation. Although I grew up on Graham Kerr and the Galloping Gourmet in the 60s, Jeff really honed my interest in truly good cooking. His mashed potatoes were the absolute best and my guests always comment on how great mine are now. Jeff had a passion for good food, culture and education. I miss him and always will.

  • thanks for posting this.

  • I loved the Frugal Gourmet. Get your facts straight, he was never even accused of pediophilia.

His show was great, his recipes were great. I miss him

  • I have to admit that some red flags went up on occasion, like when he would go on a trip abroad, he always seemed to surround himself with the children of whichever country he was visiting, and show little clips of these kids, which seems harmless enough, but give the accusations it seems like a pre-curser.On one of the programs I remember him with his sons on the show, they looked so miserable it makes me wonder about them now. I hope it isn't true but I guess it was, PBS would have kept him.

  • The Frugal Gourmet program was the very first cooking show I ever watched, and religiously so as a teenager. Those were good times, he actually helped me realize that I wanted to be a chef, which was perfect because I failed to develop to the level I wanted to achieve me goal as an artist. Anyway, I was crushed when I saw him lose his program after watching it for about 2-3 years.

  • You ppl are so small minded. Why don't you try to educate yourself and LEARN something BEFORE you decide to post your ignorance all over the place? Christ.

  • Did the make a dvd collection of this program EmeraldEyeGirlie?

  • Not that I'm aware of. Mostly because of small minded idiots like the ones on this comment section. I'd say your best bet would be to try to contact PBS... they would probably still hold the rights.

  • i wonder if rubbed his bald head on the little boys junk

  • It amazes me how not ONE of you have your facts straight. You are the type that liketo get on here & berate & belittle .... but have actually no idea what you are talking about. I have wondered if you even realize it ... or you are so hooked on being a web dick that you do not see any truth anymore. You obviously have not read a god damn thing about Jeff Smith .... or th alligations against him. Go hide in yer arse.

  • Jeff Smith alledgedly sexually harrassed former employers.

I don't condone such behavior, but,he was never proven guilty although it does make it seem as if he was because he settled out of court...

I enjoyed his cooking show.We used to watch it on PBS in the 80's.

  • we all did things in our younger yeqars we are not proud of. you best hope no one comes after you when you are older and embelish all that you did

  • he was NOT a child molester........the guys that were suing him were all of age. all over 18 and years ago when he was in his 20's and i thought it rather interesting that they all waiting until he had mega money to accuse him of anything. why not in the 80's when all he had was a restaurant? why not when he firset came to natiional fame? there were like 5-6 of these guys and the last couple came in at the end with a...."oh yeah he did me to" we were all young once.

  • he used his dick as a rolling pin

  • LIAR!

  • I wouldn't go so far as a molester...he did have a sexual affair with his younger assistant who used to help him host his cook show. That is true.

  • wait a minute... 'rest in peace'? He's DEAD???

  • Yes, he's a dead child molesting cook.

  • you idiot he has sex..........,aybe with males who were all LEGAL AGE WHEN HE WAS IN HIS 20'S

  • piss off......... it amazes me that most you lot knew nothing of the man or his life and cooking, then over the years gossip is added to inuendo, added to partial truths, and you think it written in stone, to which you add more lies. the man had sex with guys over 18 years of age. there were not 20, only 5 and one more with very questionalble testimony and none had a problem with it until he became mega wealthy and they wanted money. when all he had was his restaurant no one said a thing.

  • Some of his dishes...was like ew

But he was one of the greats

  • Great show, great guy, unfortunate book title. Whole family cooking? Put daddy on a spit, mommy in the blender and just boil the kids with spices for next year....lol

  • my dad used to make aforenentioned pasta and sand. Spagatini & sand i belive its called.

  • Say what you want. Think what you want. I love his books and I miss his show. He always had so much history with his recipes that you don't always get on the "throw it together" shows we have now. Oh, well, we still have Julia on some PBS channels. The new people just don't have the depth that they had in the those shows. Remember Graham Kerr? I have many good memories watching "that crazy cook" with my grandpa.

  • he died of heart disease. i guess 'frugal' isn't always healthy.

  • you suck

  • i used to watch his show as a kid, and he was who got me interested in cooking. i too would love to find some dvds of his show.i was saddened and surpised about both his death and scandal, having just learned about both today.never occured to me to look him up on the internet till now. procrastination at its best!!!!! but i will still always have fond memories of watching his show. rest in peace jeff. till we meat again, i bid you peace.

  • Well if you go on eBay you can find a few VHS tapes of his. The only problem is people are A-HOLES and they want to rip you off. I was lucky enough to purchase about 15 a few years ago for little money, but I have to tell you this, if you do want to pay $15 bucks each, they are worth it.

  • Where's Elmo?

  • Jeff Smith Excellent!!!

  • My God I was addicted to his show. It's a damn shame the scandal ruined him although I think it was a croc of crap. Jeff will be sorely missed.

  • Yeah. I liked him when he was on. 20 people testifying against him. Him settling. Not being able to return to TV for 6 years after he settled. What he did being an open secret in Tacoma. Yeah it was aaaaaaaaaall crap.

  • yes, one of the "victums" being fired for stealing from him several years earlier, The "victums" atorneys being disbared for creating other sexual abuse cases, the doctor that helped the "victums" recover there memories was also involved in fradulent cases - smells like crap to me.

  • The assertion that 20 people were to testify and that it was an open secret can be viewed at The Current Newspaper. The AP claimed more than 12 people would testify against him as well. The attorney of record for the "victums" (sic) is listed as Active and not "disbared" (sic) with the WSBA. If you wish to name the doctor it would bolster your excrement assertion. While not proof, generally people do not settle strong cases.

  • Sorry wrong spot. Posting below.

  • I loved it when he made Shark Fin Soup. He had the same birthday as me.

  • I enjoyed his cooking show very much....I miss it and him.

  • Where's Craig? Maybe under the Frugs apron?

  • He was Alton before Alton existed. Giving the history of the food and where it originated from. I'd love to have his shows on DVD, no matter the whole 'scandal'

  • I want all the shows too! Remember how Frug would end the show? By saying "I bid you peace." Alton ends the Iron Chef America by saying "I bid you good eating."

  • I loved that show! And learned much about cooking. He always emphasized the importance and joy of sharing meals with family and friends. My wife gave me a copy of his first book, which I still treasure.

  • Ah, the eternal Frug. How I miss the Frug.

  • Is This CBS or NBC?

  • NBC

  • I miss the Frugal Gourmet. He was a very intelligent and quick witted fellow, and fun to watch (and a very nice person, you could tell). I bid him peace.

  • The Frugal Gourmet rocks...=)

  • Letterman's such a jackass in this video. Give the old child molester a break! (harhar)

  • I, for one, love his cookbooks. He explained everything so clearly, and he had this wonderful sense of humor that permeated all his work. The sort of thing that makes cooking so fun.

  • Funny how the accusations didn't come out until after he became famous and wealthy . . . . hmmmmm, wonder what jogged their memories all at once? Wow, what a coincidence.

  • Sadly we live in the PWND era...a few smart comments from guys like you in a sea of idiots...hang on to your lifeboat. Rumor and pseudeo-intellectuals are the threads that bind the internet.

  • I'm afraid you're right. If you look at the posts to any video, it's like a slug-out of the single-digit IQs. I bid you peace, Vincent.

  • Creeppy old fuck!

  • he banged alot of little boys too.

  • he was a boy molester....

  • Go figure, his wife is HOT! Trouble is Smith is a food god.

  • So what if he did? He was a good cook, and this video's about his cooking, so why do you care?

  • Because it is not your kid! You bescreaming bloody murder if he touched your kid! lets see how that sounds! VERY STUPID REMARKS!

  • There was no proof that he molested boys. Lots of baseless accusations. The point is, this video's about his cooking. Not his sexuality. Those aren't very stupid remarks. "You bescreaming", however, is very stupid sounding.

  • Do you see him on televsion? answer that. And yes the remamrks you said are very stupid. If your kid was touched the first thing you say is arrest that man.Don't tell me that crap! The H*ll is wrong with you people. He is off TV for a reason, they did not arrest him if the police did not have any proof!Think about it.You act a woman at my job very ditzy!

  • No, I don't see him on television, because he's dead, you fool. He didn't lose his show because of child molestation, he DIED.

  • Actually, PBS became nervous about the show's future after more accusations about Smith's harrasment came out of the woodwork. They did pull the show for that reason. Smith later settled the charges out of court, and could have had a chance to come back to TV once the allegations stopped, but he never did. He died in 2004, about 7 years after The Frugal Gourmet went off the air.

  • That's quite true, he lost his show due to the accusations of making sexual advances towards his assistants, most of whom were in their senior years of high school. That's a far way from "slvwolver"'s talk of molesting little kids. Thanks for your helpful info here, it's much appreciated!

  • Highly doubtful.

  • His show had been off the air for a few years before his death. I think the charges certainly brought about the rapid demise of this show but it did kind of stagger on for a couple of years. He was very sick towards the end of his time on that show. He was puffy and gasping for breath.

  • Is his food unhealthy?

  • Amen!
