The Cathedrals gave a farewell concert when Glen was ill and couldn't continue the farewell tour Roger Bennett filled in to finish the tour Glen made George promise to fulfill their obligations & on May 18th 1999 Glen went home on October 15th 1999 & George did some touring with the Gaither homecoming shows until his health prevented him from travelling. George went home on March 17th 2007 R.I.P Glen & George
@kyrose25 Vestal passed away December 27, 2003, gone too young (74years old) she passed just 13 months after Howard. Heavens Choir keeps getting better!
I love this song, its my fav song by them, when I was a kid my grandparents used to listen to their tapes when we were with them in their car, and sometimes sang in church in a trio with my mom, my grandfather sang bass, it was cool
Seeing this video, you look at the faces, and realize that although the Homecoming Choir has gotten smaller, Heaven's choir is growing. How we miss our old friends. JD, the Goodmans, George, Glenn, Rex, and so many others. Our loss is heaven's gain.
actually the farewell tour was due to george's bad health due to diabetes, kidney failure, heart disease, etc. during the tour they visited churches that had been their main support. during the last couple months of the tour, glenn wound up in the hospital and died quickly. they finished the tour with george barely making it. with glenns death there were no more cathedrals but george and ernie went with the old friend quartet and roger and the scott formed legacy 5.
They were doing a "Farewell" Tour due to Glenn's declining health, I believe...so, it was kind of a pseudo-retirement, maybe? I'm not sure what to call it. Either way...they will be missed a great deal...
Hasn't been very long. We still have old time singing conventions with dinner on the ground here in Oklahoma, including brand new shaped note songbooks. Wonderful!
@hoover4000 They stopped touring when George became sick, but he continued with the Gaithers as did Ernie who at the time was putting together EHSS and Scott and Roger were putting together the Legacy five, George went on to form the Old Friends Quartet. They sang mostly with the Gaithers but did a couple CD's....
The Cathedrals are.. well lets change that.. The Cathedrals were the best quartet EVER i alway's wanted to play this song for a group cause i play the base guitar.. i have a fender acoustic and gibson epiphone base guitar i love to play them both if only i could find ppl to sing this song and AWESOME SONG
So many of the faces in that video, not just George and Glenn, but in the audience too are gone. J.D, James Blackwood, Brock Speer, Elridge Fox, and now Roger Bennett. Good to see them again on this video.
Fabulous! Wonderful 4 part harmony! I love Southern Gospel, and The Cathedrals are one of the very best! It's wonderful that we can see our old friends, and othes that have passed on! How I long for those days. My old church didn't know what harmony was. Even so called "special" music was all in unison!

Yeah and I guess when you have all those health problems singing night after night and traveling 600 to 900 miles in between shows is hard
