Watched this movie for the first time in my girlfriend's arms... as a two evening event together, on the couch... She has made such an amazing impact on my life... I never expected to find this kind of love in another woman's arms. She's my best friend, lover, confidant, & everything I've ever dreamed of. Crazy how love finds you when you stop looking... <3 her.
Watch my music video for "How Blue" starring JUSTIN KIRK from Angels In America. Just click on my "BleuTeub" channel! I'm on twitter @Bleutopia - thank you!
I love the relationship between Prior and Meryl Streep's character. (Mrs. Pitt, i think?) Their friendship is so unlikely considering the fact that they are complete opposites, but they share some kind of strong connection. I think it's wonderful, and Prior Walter is one of my favorite characters of all time. This movie is remarkable.
It always made me sad that they didn't include Joe in this last scene, or even mention how things all ended up for him. He deserved a happy ending too, didn't he?
Bravo.....I get goose bumps every time I think of this beautiful scene. Thank you for posting this. I am remembering all my precious friends who are angels now.
@wilcox24 I would be astounded if you had ever kissed a girl in your life....It must be hard for you...still a virgin at 35....tragic. Also...got to ask...you seem to spend a lot of your time thinking about man on man action for a hetrosexual man. You Mary are what's known as a Closet Case. Don't worry....We don't hate you. Just don't hate yourself. Kepp chasing that Rainbow.
@wilcox24 Funny....then why do you spend your days on the Net talking nonsense Mary? Let's be honest with ourselves shall we? You must have a server lack in your life if all you can do is respond with nonsense and bile? Why not try a sentence that isn't accusatory Mary? I'm sure you will get those girls you desire if you try to be less of a jerk.
hello everyone i would like to ask u a question: is there any sentence in this serial like "love is a menace, responsability is a menace, do not let anyone to stop ur way, save yourself..." bla bla bla something like that
It seems a little odd to me as I watch this scene that there is no sign or mention of Joe Pitt, the character well played by Patrick Wilson. This is Joe's mother sitting here at the fountain with Louis and Belize. And considering also that Joe was unfortunate enough to get mixed up with Louis for a while, it seems even stranger to have him absent. as if he just evaporated.
Joe Pitt was in many ways a more sympathetic character than Louis or Belize, in spite of his weaknesses.
If anyone is interested, a wonderful place to read of angels, a poets impression, anyway, is Rilke's "Duino Elegies". Give it a shot, you won't regret it.
I have..no words....except this little tid bit: IN every time in what we call history we find meaning. We are demigods for God fricking sake! We create what we want and if we want, the creation breathes. You ARE able to let this breath. Go Prior and all of you!
A moving soliloquy. Maybe a little too esoteric for me, but the sound of his voice and his words soothed. I like the idea of the contrast of a warm winters day.
Oh !!! I want to HUG you ! But you are mistaken to think Angels is too esoteric.
It's NOT !!!!
It's all there, obviously apparent !!!!!
Kushner isn't hiding anything. He writes Beautifully about Beautiful Ideas !!!! He's simply sharing his Mellifluous Gift with us all ....... don't think about "what this all means" .....
Just Enjoy.
Pure Poetry.
God, Prior...... your Valediction at 4:33 ....... TEARS FLOWING.
One of my favorite storylines of the film is the transformation of Hannah Pitt (Meryl Streep.) She went from Conservative Mormon Housewife to a free thinking and open minded caring human being. I wish that would happen more in this country!
Am I the only queen who catches Justin Kirk's channeling of Paul Lynde at 2:50 ?
This is a superlative film. And this final scene makes me SOB every time. ( young queens get over it. I lived through the Plague. My nostalgia is strewn with tombstones.)
Watch this film.
Receive its glory.
Do not fret about what "everything means". It's a fantasy.
@anglicansag Honey, I'm a straight middle aged woman, and I caught the little homage to Paul Lynde. I positively loved Justin Kirk's little tribute to the Wizard of Oz back in the previous (or two, or whatever) scene. Justin Kirk is positively marvelous.
I was three months pregnant when I saw this and I cried when he said "You are fabulous each and every one of you...more life" It was so impacting in my decision to keep and raise my son. I have not regretted it since. Beautiful play and I hope to see it in production.
I saw the touring company of both, back to back a number of years ago, after having lost a friend to that damned disease. Every Pride weekend i have to have a cocktail in his honour as he so loved them on a warm, summer night. One day...do let the pain of this illness be lifted like the wings of an angel not to alight again on those who suffer.
I adore this film with all my heart. I have watched it so many times but I cry every time at the end. Justin Kirk and Jeffrey Wright are so brilliant ! Actually, it's very hard to choose which actor / actress is the best. They are all breathtaking !
More life. The Great Work Begins. If it only could be true...
You know what I love about this movie - is that if you've ever gone through anything bad. It gives you hope again. I cry everytime at this part of the movie because it really means that you can survive - even when you just think you can't hold on - you really can. "God Bless.. More Life."
I have to say thanks for adding this particular scene too. The entire film meant so much to me. When I break out the DVD of it that I have I will play this scene just to hear Justin Kirk say "you are fabulous". Corny I know, but true. Simply an amazing film and play.
I was at the Salt Lake City Airport Hilton the night Part I premiered on HBO...I rushed from my flight to car rental to hotel and settled in...and within true eye-view of Temple Square, this magnificent flow of words and emotion and love and tragedy and redemption consumed me.
On stage, I saw Part I on Broadway the day after it won the Tonys. Part II in San Francisco. But this HBO work...the acting, the locations...oh, the music...Meryl, Emma, Justin, Jeffrey, Mary-Louise and ALL...a miracle.
So glad to have found this clip finally! I just visited NYC for the first time ever and I spent a few hours walking around Central Park and my only mission was to see the Bethesda Fountain and even though it was turned off, it really is a sight to see.
since watching this movie when it came out on HBO i have been absolutely in LOVE with it! i watch it almost everyday, even as background visual and sound. THE MOST PERFECT FILM, SCRIPT and ACTING ever caught on film! i know ive quoted so many things from this movie in my everyday life!
You are fabulous, each and every one.

Prior's monologue in this scene makes me almost vomit - this syrupy, "feel-good" ending ruins an otherwise brilliant play
They should have cut when Mary Louise parker's character is flying through the clouds, away from NY.

It's the perfect ending for a perfect miniseries.
Couldn't get any better.
Everything changes: a lover to a friend or a mormon woman become close friend with a young gay man. That's fantastic.
I hope someday the rest of the world will finally wake up and accept gay men and women as normal citizens as they are, with the same rights.
Everything is possible.
