On 3 February 1967, using a shotgun owned by musician Heinz Burt (formerly of The Tornados), Meek murdered his landlady before turning the gun on himself. Aged only 37, he died eight years to the day after his hero, Buddy Holly.
I myself have just found out that Even Zoot Money's version was a cover and that the original was by The Drifters in 1961.
The Cryin' Shames version was the last hit for Joe Meek before he committed suicide.
The follow-up single - Nobody Waved Goodbye - flopped failing to reach Top 50.
After a line-up change they recorded as Paul & Ritchie & The Cryin' Shames whose only single was September In The Rainwhich also flopped and recorded at Joe Meek's last session.
@ALEXDJ2009 Believe me it will get better I won't say that it will stop hurting cuz I would be a lie you just learn to live with it better I have lost both my parents and I miss them both horribly, it will get easier it will just take some time I am sorry for your loss
I have it on 7" vinyl and still play it, thanks for posting this, Brings back lots of great memories from my teenage yrs, altho that was only 30 yrs ago :-)
