  • Hi mum/dad, just thought i'd pop in, bless ye both, Scotland miss's ye both, especially your 5 son's n daughter. Sleep peacefully xx

  • "we were so gay"

what the meaning of this line??

is the gay word has different "meaning"??

  • @MrKabitajhon Gay means Merry, Happy

, (in French, which is the the origin of the word, it means glad or lighthearted hence it is was also a girls first name.)

the spelling now has been modernised somewhat to 'Gaye' to differentiate it from the modern meaning.

  • Yes! it was written by an Irishman...Jimmy Kennedy.....it is a reasonable assumption to say that Jimmy Kennedy was Irish!

  • Yes Jimmy Kennedy wrote this back in the Thirties, I think that the assumption that Jimmy Kennedy was Irish is very reasonable.

  • Thanks for sharing this with us. I just bought an old 78 record today with Autry singing "A Year Ago Tonight" and "I'll Never Let You Go" on the reverse. Funny, I couldn't find those songs here on the 'Tube.

  • Remember this from Gene's radio show thank you again.........5 Stars....

  • I just listened to Your posting of The Last Roundup.

  • Thanks, George--Autry gave us some suberb American classics...

    Best,

    -RR

  • @RReady555 The likes of which will never be heard again-

  • @RReady555 This is Elvis Presley.

  • @Georgewos There must have been oral sex even in the days of Gene Autry. Maybe the singing cowboys started that great American tradition. The answer is blowin' in the wind.

  • Love this song RR and not only because it was composed by an Irishman. LOL Gene Autry had a special voice. Thanks for posting this great old song.

    Greetings from Ireland.

    Terry.

  • Glad to oblige, Terry. Ask director John Ford--many of the greatest cowboys were Irish. ;)

    Yuletide regards,

    -RR

  • @RReady555 Not just the cowboys, but also the music. I'm a scholar studying the effect Irish immigrants had on Texas music, especially the fiddle. There are many connections.

  • @terrygrif - Hello Terry the composer was Jimmy Kenneddy.

  • @goinghomesomeday1 Yes, indeed he was, and another of Jimmy's great songs was "Red Sails in the Sunset". Terry.

  • Dear RReady555,

Many thanks for uploading this wonderful version by late grate Gene Autry.....!!!!

    -Aruna

  • You're profoundly welcome, Aruna...Gene knew how it was done. ;)

    Happy trails,

    -RR

  • ahhh........thank you for putting this song on!!

  • Gene's characters didn't often deceive the girl, but it was the best for both, here.. ;)

    Adios,

    -RR

  • First time I listen this song in English, thanks!

  • Thanks, Camille...it's a slightly sad song but things worked out o.k. for Gene and the girl. ;)

    Best,

    -RR

  • Yes, English lyrics are more sad than French lyrics. And this version is really a cowboy's song! ;)

  • Thanks! Who has sung it in French? I'd like hear that version... ;)

  • Awesome...I love Gene Autry.

  • Country doesn't get much more classic than Gene...it's great to see how many international fans he has--of all generations!

    Regards,

    -RR

  • I saw the black singer Solomon Burke on TV saying his mother used to make him listen to Gene Autry and emphasise his diction, every word crystal-clear. Smart momma--Birke's singing also marked by crystal-clear diction, as is his speech

If I remember correctly,he said that "Mr Gene Autry also helped him start his career.

  • As a dirt-poor kid from Oklahoma, Gene had enormous discipline to rise to the top of that tough profession--certainly our voices are the feature over which we have the most conscious control.

    Good for Mr. Burke!

    Best,

    -RR

  • This is the one for which I have searched. Thankyou.

Ratings are disabled...I would give u the best for this.

  • Thanks so much--it's my favorite Autry song (fun movie, too!).

    Best,

    -RR

  • RR

I just love this Classic and Gene Autry. I watch Rudolph every year just to hear Gene sing and we both have the same first name. How cool is that? Via con Dios!

  • And I thought you took your posting name from the goldmaking process, genia! ;)

Cowboy music is supposedly low-brow, but you gotta love Gene's style...an amazing American showman.

    Best,

    -RR

  • That was awesome, Gene Autry is a true singer and a great actor!

  • Gene was one of a kind, surely...a great entertainer in so many media--5 stars on Hollywood Boulevard. ;)
